Title: Monroe, WA show of hands
Post by: Moromis on May 27, 2009, 07:10:51 PM
I'd like to get a show of hands to see who could come to local tournament (open, of course) in Monroe, Washington. Probably in July. I'd like to know so that I wouldn't have to go to the effort of setting one up if nobody could attend.

I think a lot of people that go to tournaments don't necessarily traverse these boards frequently. But if you establish a date and place, some might see the tournament on the schedule and come.

I'm assuming that your north east of seattle. If not disregard the rest of my comment but if so read on. :)

I didn't realize we had any players that far north.  I'm in Salem, OR and I am the one hosting the Northwest Regional.  Just so your aware I've been hosting tournaments in the Northwest for 6 yrs and your the first player from Seattle or farther North that I've been aware of.  Most of the players in the northwest either live near Portland, Salem, or Medford.  Also most of us wont travel for a local tourney and we only sometimes travel for a district because of costs.  We do travel for States and Regionals usually but given the size of my play group regionals will probably be where I am at for a while unless you have a good size play group.

How many are in your play group?
How long have you played?
Are you interested in coming down here (Salem) for one of our large tourneys in June?

I'm from Vancouver, WA. I could try to make it up for a tournament in the Seattle area but I can't guarantee anything since we're still making plans for summer. You should try to come to the Washington State Tournament (June 25 in Battle Ground, WA) and the NW Regional tournament (June 26-27 in Aumsville, OR). You would have a chance to play whatever categories you'd like, meet the majority of the players in the NW and have a great time playing games and hanging out.

Bubbleboy:  Thanks for the welcome ... son.  :P
NWJosh:  # in playgroup is 2-4 (2 committed, 2 casual); Zach got started about a year ago; Zach was introduced to Redemption by our neighbor
Gandalf:  My son's name is Zach.
We haven't been to any tournaments, so I don't really know how they work.  I don't even know how Redemption is played!  But I know my son likes it, so I'm willing to figure out how to host a tournament.  (Surely there are players north of Tacoma???)  But maybe driving 4 hours each way to see how it's done might be a good idea?  (8 hours in the car -- Yikes!)  How long does a state tournament typically last?  We'd be going to the WA State Tournament on June 25.

...and the Northwest grows!

Nats 2011 in Portland, OR...now wouldn't that chap the east-coasters' hides!  :rollin:

The amount of time that the tournament lasts depends on how many people come. For the Washington State tournament we have the building from 9AM-5PM and would expect it to last until 5. I'll update the WA State tournament thread tomorrow with a tentative schedule to give you a better idea of what it will look like.
