Title: Hosting tourneys....
Post by: lightningninja on November 12, 2008, 04:34:02 PM
How old do you have to be to host a tourney? And do you have to have any certain number of people, be in a certain area...... Just some general questions. thanks. I am getting a lot of people to play and it's hard to always make it to Bryon's tourneys since it's like 1 1/2-2 hours away. So maybe some tourneys could get people's interest up here.

In order to host you need to have someone 18yrs or older at the tourney and on the application.  You can have any number of players as long as there are 2 or more players for each category really.  The best locations for tourneys are at churches but I've seen them done at schools and lots of other places.  You just need to make sure there is enough room for tables and all that.  I would recommend doing some locals for a while then when you get used to it try a district.

Yeah, I plan on hosting nothing but locals for the first little while. So I could host a tourney with my dad(he's obviously over 18 :)) and that would be okay? Even if my dad doesn't know redemption? And I could host it in my house, right?

As soon as you celebrate your 15th birthday, you can ALREADY apply with your name as host, provided a person 18 yrs or older would 'guardian' the tourney.

Godbless.

Buy them yourself.

All gaming supplies for the closed categories the host has to buy.  That is why most hosts anywhere from 10-15 dollars for closed events because they have to cover costs of the supplies.

If a host promises to use gaming materials JUST strictly for tourney and not for trade or re-sale purposes, he/she is usually offered by distributors up to 40% discount (shipping costs if applicable).

Godbless.

Packs and promos, once you submit your form for an OFFICIAL tourney, are provided by Cactus. Anything other than that, like closed categories and selling product, you have to buy. But It looks like I"ll be hosting tourneys in the near future.

How many CA players would come down to Oceanside for a tourney? It's about 1:30 hours from Bryon's tourneys, to give an idea. I would provide type two as well if there were at least two people(2 player only). I'm thinking the first one will be in January or February. So who would come down that far to compete? It's official. ;)

I'm trying to go to college in SoCal next year and may try to come to some tournaments. Obviously that would not be until next August or so though.

As a lineman, your best bet is to go to Univ of Minnesota!  The NFL loves Big 10 linemen AND you would get to play Redemption tournaments practically every weekend during the offseason.   :D

I believe Ben is going to San Diego State University.  He's going to ruff it in the 80 degree weather, beaches and all that hard college life stuff.

Correct. I'm also applying to other schools but SDSU is my #1 choice right now.

Ooh, very cool.  I know a couple people down there, they really like it.  (In fact, I was even considering UCSD back when I thought about going into Graphic Design/TV Production.)  What are you planning to major in?
That's not too bad a drive from Oceanside... I doubt It'd take more than an hour...

So.... how many would be able to make it? Brandon, Bryon, Kramers, Wolfes? Anyone?
I doubt we could pull off an Oceanside tournament held Saturday morning/midday and make it back for church later that afternoon once driving times are figured in.  (Thus why we can't make it to Bryon's afternoon tourneys.  However, my family usually takes a vacation during the summer down to the San Diego area to get our fill of Ultrazone, so perhaps we can make some dates match up around then...

I'll probably major in Business Administration/Management/Finance or something in that related field.

Or how about if I have one in the morning? I'm thinking of having the first one on December 29th(weekend after christmas.) It might start in the morning. Maybe like 10:00.... I'm still figuring it all out, as well as where I will have it. So yeah, over the summer should work too.

Ah, bummer. I think that's the only day that will work for me in the near future. How come I haven't seen you at Bryon's tourneys? Will you be on the one on December 15th?

Okay. I should see you there, I'm almost positive, but not completely sure. There's been no type one two player experienced players. I miss the competition. :( But if my first tourney is not on December 29th, it will be January 5th, so hopefully you would be able to make that. By the way... if you weren't doing anything, would you be able to drive all the way down here?
