Title: Florida State Tournament
Post by: YourMathTeacher on May 27, 2010, 06:26:02 PM
FLORIDA STATE TOURNAMENT

Friday June 11th and Saturday, June 12th

I still have not been able to secure a church for hosting, so the tournament will be held at my home:

17332 Woodcrest Way
Clermont, FL  34714

I am right near the intersection of Route 192 and US 27, eight miles from Disney World. I also have an air hockey table in my garage, and a Wii in the living room. You are welcome to swim in my pool if you wish.

We will be starting at 4:00pm on Friday and at 9:00am on Saturday, with deck checks beginning one hour before the start times. The current category offerings will be:

Type 1 2-Player
Type 1 Multiplayer
Type 2 2-Player
Type 2 Multiplayer
Teams

The order of events is still to be determined, so please see the next post.

The tournament cost will be a one-time charge of $5 for all categories. Please bring extra money for food since this will be a two-day event.

This is Orlando, so there are many places to eat out. We can order pizza locally from Hungry Howie's. There is a Wendy's, McDonald's, KFC, and Taco Bell less than a mile from my house. If you are travelling far, overnight accomodations can be arranged. There are a plethora of hotels and vacation homes if you want privacy, but you are welcome to crash at my house if you don't mind a sleeper sofa (unless you are the first to call dibs on the extra Master Suite). ;D

PM or post if you have any questions or just to let me know you are coming.

Discussion about sequence of categories begins now. Here is the preferred schedule for my playgroup:

Friday night will be both Type 2 events. My players have very limited card supply, so their primary Type 1 deck is mixed in with their Type 2 deck. Having the types on different days will give them time to rearrange their decks. Also, some of my players do not play Type 2, so this way they can just come on Saturday.

Saturday would be both Type 1 events first, then the day will end with Teams (again to let the players rearrange their decks).

I am open to suggestions, but I will give preference to my primary playgroup if there are discrepancies that can not be resolved by positive communication. Please post or PM your input.

Although I'm kinda sure that I will be showing up on Saturday, I call dibs on the master suite haha... (Obviously more than 1 person can share it, I'm not that stingy).

That all makes a lot of sense. We should be able to drive up Friday night and crash there and make most of the tourney on Saturday. Type 2 on Friday seems like a great way to accomadate everyone. Our group will discuss which order of tournament types would be best for us on saturday considering we may have to leave Saturday evening and that may cut into the last tournament. But to give you an idea, we may go with:

Saturday

Type 1-2 player
Type 1 Multi
Teams

Even though I'm local may I crash your floor?

Caleb and I shall be there.

I now modify my original statement seeing as the "ptb" for my group seem to have made the decision to arrive on Friday night. In other words, my "dibs" for the guys in our group is somewhat official although I do recall my personal accommodations are apparently down the road at: OCJ was it?

Tim; I'm pretty sure you should be expecting us to bring 4 people this time. So I hope there is enough space for us all.

Do you want to squeeze all four of you in the Master Suite? There is a queen bed, a double bed, and plenty of floor space for sleeping bags. We also have some pillow-top mattress pads that will make the floor softer.  ;D

Even though I'm local may I crash your floor?

Caleb and I shall be there.

You and Caleb can use Joshua's bedroom. There is a single bed on the top bunk for Caleb, and you can use the queen bed on the bottom bunk. Joshua will want to sleep in the living room with the Weiss boys (Joannah will be sleeping in Miriam's room).

ATTENTION FLORIDA PLAYERS!!!!!

Major schedule change is needed. Unfortunately my primary playgroup has been hit with a mandatory family gathering on Saturday night. They will need to leave before 4 pm. Here are some possibilities:

1. Move both Type 1 categories to Friday night, and both Type 2 categories to Saturday after Teams.
2. Move Teams to the second category on Friday night and do both Type 1 categories early on Saturday. In this scenario, we would need to start promptly at 9am (or earlier), and we may have to have an abbreviated lunch.
3. Start the tournament on Friday night once everyone arrives, then play non-stop through the night into Saturday.

Please throw out your input, but please include your estimated time of arrival at my house (and how flexible that can be). My primary playgroup prefers both Type 1 categories and Teams. They don't care if they get to play Type 2 at all. Anyone coming please tell me what categories you are most interested in playing and when. If there are categories that you don't care about missing, please let me know that too.

I don't think 3 is a good idea due to the number of younger players we have. I'm okay with either 1 or 2 but I know 3 might be a bit too much.

The Pompano group only plays Type 1 and as far as I know, all 4 of us want to try out this teams thing.

Yeah all of us play type 1, type 2 doesn't really interest us. But we are curious about trying out teams. As far as time goes, you'll have to wait for delarosajon to get back to you.

We would leave at 7pm and arrive at about 10:30-11:00. I know that's late. As far as types to play, Teams and Type 1-2 player seem to be our most desired types. I hope this helps. We also need to leave on Saturday between 5:30-6:30 pm to catch a sporting event on time.

Due to the number of rounds required per category, and the amount of time required based on category, we will have to go with this type of schedule:

Friday Night

1. Type 2 Multiplayer (1 round, possibly 2)
2. TEAMS (3 rounds)

Saturday

1. Type 1 2-player (4 rounds)
2. Type 1 Multiplayer (2 rounds)
3. Type 2 2-player (2 rounds)

The optional possibility would be to switch TEAMS with Type 1 multiplayer. Pompano dudes will have to decide which two categories you most want, since that is all we can pull off on early Saturday. If there is any way you can arrive earlier on Friday night, then you could do all three. Either way, The two Type 2 events will be the first and last ones, since fewer people are interested anyway.

Our beloved brother Tim, what time do you think you'll be running these categories?

Also, do you think I'll have enough time to take pictures, videos, and interviews during & in between rounds?

Our beloved brother Tim, what time do you think you'll be running these categories?

Friday night will start at 5pm. First category would end by 7pm. TEAMS would start shortly thereafter and run until about 10pm.

Saturday morning I would like to start at 8am. Type 1 2-player will last until noon. We'll have about a half hour lunch, then start Type 1 Multiplayer, which will last until 3pm. That's when the Weiss family will have to leave. Our final category would start whenever everyone else is ready.

Also, do you think I'll have enough time to take pictures, videos, and interviews during & in between rounds?

Due to the time constraints of the Weiss', there will not be much time between rounds. My suggestion would be to win each of your rounds quickly (like 5-0 or 5-1), then do the videos while you wait for the others.  ;)

There will be plenty of time after you arrive Friday night for interviews and such, as well as video games and air hockey. Don't forget to bring a swimming suit. My pool water is much warmer now that it has been in the 90's this long.

Tim, wouldn't it be best if you put all the Type 1 or Type 2 on 1 day because of what you said with people's limit on their collection? Such as why not have all of type 2 on friday night then type 1 on saturday and close with teams.

It would seem crazy for the people who'd play type on on saturday morning then after multiplayer to quickly change their deck around to suit type 2. Wouldn't you think so?

The deck discomfort is overruled by lack of presence. The Type 2's will have to be the bookends because they will be the least attended.

Ok... well, what if we're just worried that we won't make it in time for teams? We're gonna be on the road for a while and night driving. We did good driving to your place last district partly due to an early morning drive with little traffic on the road.

How far away is this from Atlanta Georgia. TN guys would you be willing to drive down with me? I will talk to Chris McCravy and Eric Largent and see what they are doing because I was wanting something to do that day because I requested it off for our state but that date didn't work out.

Well thing is I need 3 more guys to take with me if we take a car to split gas. If I can not get 3 more guys I can not afford a one night trip because I would leave friday night and be there very early saturday morning, like before sunrise. So if I could get 3 guys to commit then I could make it.
