Nats TEAMS report

Well, this is a bit late, but I wanted to post decks, and unfortunately didn't get Sauce's deck list, which included some cool stuff that I didn't originally have in there. Like two Son of Gods and two He is Risen!s, while it lacked a High Places, and I didn't have one. Oops.

TEAMS: Los Perdedores De Mexico
We were running off of very little sleep and built our decks the night before and the day of...which Sauce woke up five minutes before it started, whereas I had about 15 minutes. I was running what we’ve run all year, which is basically a 112 version of my Trolololol deck, with a bit more offense help. Sauce was playing Teal/Tomb. I built the decks and apparently forgot to tell Sauce to put in High Places like the noob I am. So we never used A-Bomb.

Round 1: The Wolves (Eric and Mike Wolfe) 2-3
They were running an offense/defense deck as well, although their defense had only defense. They had black/orange/brown (I think) and Green/White TGT. They got an early soul because I wanted to save Gates, although Sauce said I shouldn’t. Then it went around and we couldn’t break through, due to them banding to my entire defense. They also couldn’t break through though. Sauce had Lampstand up, and he also had Mayhem and Son of God/NJ. It was 0-1 at this point. I said “Do it…” on the last turn, considering they didn’t have a turn left with the offense deck. He doesn’t do it properly though, probably because he’s a total noob, and plays Son of God/NJ before deactivating Lampstand, which they drop SoG/NJ immediately as well. I wanted him to deactivate Lampy and play the three all together, responding to our own action. We would have won 2-1, probably. He almost cost us second place. Because he’s a noob.

Round 2: Matt Townsend/Jeremy Volk 5-2
Pretty sure everybody knew who we were at this point. Sauce kept yelling at me for not using Gates, and I kept yelling at him for using Lampy. MJWare and Bubble Boy didn’t seem to mind too much that we had such disagreements though, although they probably got a bit annoyed, but perhaps that played to our advantage. Jeremy was running Angels/Prophets with an orange defense, and MJWare was running something that I don’t remember and orange. I don’t remember any of this game, other than Sauce making up lies about me to say I was in the wrong and I was a noob, and he’s a better player, and blah blah blah.

Round 3: Team Canada (Evan Barkman/Andrew Hiebert) 5-0
Same thing as the last game…Sauce was yelling at me, and I was giving it right back. They thought division was good. Little did they know, we were actually rock solid and could have done won synchronized diving at the Olympics. They were playing disciples, which I lol’d at with my defense. Very little defense, so we walked in.

Round 4: The Father Son Team (Art/Palmer Middlekauff) 5-1
I felt bad. We didn’t yell at each other too much, since it was getting old. Part of the way through the game I made a mistake by playing Intent to Kill instead of Pushed Back against a TSA, but it didn’t matter too much. Art was a great guy and caught that I was negating banding when Palmer tried to band, and even though Sauce and I didn’t realize it, he mentioned it. Twice. I liked these guys a lot. I shut down Art’s offense entirely with King Amon/Goliath’s Armor, so I just had to worry about Palmer, who was playing Silver and struggled against Phillies. I made a bad call on not having Sauce use Angel on Lot’s Wife, which he proceeded to play Babel on, but it didn’t matter in the long run. Deactivated Lampstand, played Falling Away, and SoG/NJ FTW. I felt bad for playing Falling Away on them, but it ended up saving us the tournament, no thanks to Sauce making a mistake that cost us the game in the first round.

Round 5: Team OG (Nathan Voigt/John Nesfeder) 5-4
They’ve been beating us all year. Our decks are teched for them, and they still beat us all the time. Well, the few times we play, that is. Well, it's also often ties and time outs. After brutally battling it out, their defense was running low, and both Alan and I were able to be rescuing. I can’t remember the differences between this game and the next, but we ended up winning. Teal/Tomb served us much better than an A-Bomb offense.

Round 6: Gabe Isbell/Kevin Shride 2-5
The dreaded match. We really didn’t want them to win three years in a row. They had lost to team “Dumb and Dumber” in the second or third round, so I was feeling…okay, I guess? They got a few early souls, and quickly had one with a few taps on the liners. We also got off to a quick start, and most of the game was just both teams waiting for SoG/NJ. They stopped rescuing to avoid us banding to their defense and drawing a bunch. What I really needed to do was use Philly Outpost to get Goliath and convert him so we could walk in against their Pharisees (realized this after the game), although I did finally draw Goliath, who Gabe converted to avoid a Meeting the Messiah for extra drawing. I should have done it when they rescued with Matthew initially and used Writ to avoid me blocking and banding to all of their Pharisees. We played Mayhem early on to prolong them getting the big two. I drew NJ on what ended up being my last turn. They had RBD active, or else I might have decided to Gates my deck for all but my top card, just to see if it was Son of God, and then rescue with King Hiram…but they had RBD up…and my top card was Son of God. Didn’t matter. They had a solid win. We might have won it had we legally stalled and timed them out, but I hate it when other people stall, so I never will.

Final: 2nd Place with 14 points and a +9 lost soul differential, causing us to jump up to third in the RNRS. Had we beaten Gabe and Shride, it would have jumped us ahead of Hobbit and we would have had a trophy. But we didn’t. Probably because Sauce is a noob.

After the last round we helped clean up and were ready to go to Perkins. I was in my car with Sauce, and my cousin was following. We were sitting in our cars waiting for Martin and Nathan, and Sauce made a mention about him playing Rock Paper Scissors, and after looking in my side mirror, I see my cousin doing the motion. I kept watching and joined in the fun using the other side mirror. Sauce and I did the same thing 5 out of 5 times, not paying attention to what the other was doing or communicating. I guess we had been playing teams for too long.

And then we argued the whole way home. Teamwork FTW.

This was the deck Westy sent me, which is the only decklist I have, but it's probably wrong considering there were a few last minute changes and this deck is illegal. I probably forgot to put in Blessings and Benedictus, but I'm not sure. In my defense, I built my deck the night before when I was half asleep. I told Westy to check it and he said it was fine. So I get to blame him.

We beat MKC/Hobbit because I drew SOG the fastest. We weren't exactly teched for them, though. Our tech was pretty much HHI at most. The one time we did tech against them (Regionals the year before) we tied 4-4 and no one got a tat :(.

MORE IMPORTANTLY: I just want everyone to know that Westy was the weak link, not me. After the third game it was like 15 mistakes he made vs like 1 I made. The difference was I caught his and stopped him from being a bad player.
