Title: Extending tournament season after Nationals ?
Post by: CactusRob on July 03, 2020, 02:45:16 PM
I am considering extending the current tournament season through the fall.  I would be willing to sanction local, district, state and regional events after our National tournament.  End date could be something like Nov 14th or as far out as the end of year.  This would allow more events, more access to promo cards including this year's state and regional promo cards.

We would not declare RNRS points champions at Nationals but at the end of the extended season.

What say you?

I think its a great idea and would allow more time for states that still need to lift restrictions. Also, are this seasons new promos all printed including the Nationals promos?

But then wouldn’t 2020-2021 season be short?

Most playgroups take a break after nats so the next season would not be effected by much.

Since I always have to ask this (:D): Will there also be some kind of online tournament category possible?

I haven’t heard anything about anymore online tournaments

Unfortunately online is the only possibility for me to participate (if I get the time difference managed).  :(

I appreciate you posting this, thanks Rob. I would say, might as well. The options seem to be either no tournaments before nationals, or tournaments after nationals. I personally think that states and regionals after nationals could be really cool, for a one time thing.

It does start in September, but no States or Regionals are held until they summer.  So extending the season would allow for those missed State/Regional tournaments to possibly be held if/when the virus crisis slows down.  There are generally only a handful of Local/Districts held from Sept-Dec anyways, so those would go to the previous season, but that will probably be minimal and not change the overall points for either season.

Are there really still enough restrictions in most areas that restrict from tournaments from happening at this point? Seems like the month of July can host state and regional tournaments before nationals

Probably not, but I think at this point it's moreso about scheduling and having everything together for the tournaments. Usually the big tournaments are planned months ahead of time so that they work with the hosts' schedules, all the supplies (prizes, promos, etc.) from Cactus can be shipped in a timely manner, and so they don't collide with other big tournaments nearby (i.e. MN and IA often have their State tournaments staggered to allow people from either state to attend both). Long story short, I think it would just be too short notice and even without restrictions, it's still probably best to make sure we as a Redemption community are staying safe and keeping others safe as well.

Makes sense, thinking ahead it seems like the 2020-2021 season just might be hectic when shaving off four months at the end of this year and having all the locals and districts more crammed in for next year and not as spaced out

Further to my original post, I have decided to extend the current tournament season through Nov. 28th.  You may host local, district, state or regional tournaments after the National tournament for the 2019/2020 season but not later than Nov. 28th.  We will name RNRS Points Champions after Nov. 28th and send out plaques and other prizes in December.  2020/2021 season will begin Nov 29th.

Players that are not permitted to leave their state without being penalized with a two week quarantine will at least have the option to run localized events.  State and Regional promo cards already printed.  ;)

Thank you,
Rob

Thanks, Rob, for doing this.

I agree, I've been slightly depressed thinking I wouldn't be able to host a state/regional tournament.  Plus I do want to play some LoC only!

If I had the time, I would be more than  happy to  host an  online tourney. However, I don't have the time. Plus, I would have to get permission from Rob.
