Title: Changing the Hosting Age.
Post by: crustpope on March 17, 2010, 12:31:00 PM
Since those who host under the age of 18 have to have an adult anyway, why not lower the hosting age to 12 oe 13?  I know several people who would like to host but who are not yet 18.  I understand that hosts have to rule, but isnt that why the adult is there?  Perhaps there should be a caveat that the Adult that helps co-host has to have also been a tournament host as well. (adults that dont know the game and dont play are a waste of space anyway at a redemption tournament... :P)

what are your thoughts?

I think 13 should be the age required to host a tournament. It makes sense if an adult is required anyway.

You don't have to be 18 to host; my friend who was 16 hosted a local.

You have to be 15 to host a tournament. And if you are under 18, you must have an adult assist you in hosting.

I'm not sure I understand the purpose of lowering the age. I think 15 is low enough. There's a lot more to hosting than just saying "I'm the Host!" and letting the adult handle all the problems.

Yes and there is no guarrantee that a 15  year old will be able to handle all those responsibilities either.  That is why my caveat is that the adult for underage hosts should also have experience hosting.

I'm just saying that I know 13 year olds that are willing and capable of hosting a local and I think it would go a long way to incresing their investment in the game if they be allowed to shoulder some of the load if they are willing.

What about 13-15 you can only host locals.  15-17 you can host locals and districts 18 and up you can host any level of redemption tournament?

Marc from NY is the youngest state and regional host, he was somewhere between 15-17 for those I think and a very capable host at that.
