Title: Central Florida Tournaments
Post by: YourMathTeacher on April 09, 2012, 04:57:58 PM
Tournament season has finally arrived here in the Orlando area. All Local and District tournaments will be held on Saturdays at my home: 17332 Woodcrest Way, Clermont, FL 34714. Tournaments will start promptly at 9am and run until all categories are finished. I use 1-hour rounds for 2-player events and 1.5-hour rounds for multiplayer and Type 2.

Feel free to call me (352) 243-0493 if you need last minute directions or have any questions. You can email me at timrebeccajoshua@msn.com if that is more convenient.

May 5th Local - Type 1 2-player, Type 1 Multiplayer, TEAMS

May 19th District - Type 1 2-player, Type 1 Multiplayer, TEAMS, Type 2 2-player

June 2nd Local - Type 1 2-player, Type 1 Multiplayer, TEAMS

June 16th Local - Type 1 2-player, Type 1 Multiplayer, TEAMS

** I regret to inform all travellers that my offer to have people from the forum stay at my home is no longer available starting May 5th. If you contacted me about coming to Orlando for a visit prior to May 5th, then my offer still stands.

Please PM or post if you plan on attending any of the tournaments.

Also, regarding this part of my previous post:

** I regret to inform all travellers that my offer to have people from the forum stay at my home is no longer available starting May 5th. If you contacted me about coming to Orlando for a visit prior to May 5th, then my offer still stands.

So that I do not have to sing You're So Vain if you think this post is about you, let me clarify.

Since I bought my new home in Florida 4 years ago, I have left an open invitation for Redemption people to come visit Orlando and stay in my guest room for free. My home has two Master Suites, so this was convenient. However, the major reason we wanted the second Master Suite was for my parents to stay in after they retire. My mother retired in January and my wife's mother retired in March. They will now be staying with us for extended vacations. My wife's mother will be with us for the next two months, while my mother with be arriving a week later to stay for 2-3 months, possibly longer.

Thus, I can no longer offer my guest room to Redemption people. You are still welcome to come visit. I can still try to arrange an impromptu tournament or casual game night. I can still try to get you into Disney. If you need a place to crash for just one night, you are welcome to use my sleeper sofa. However, please give me as much advance notice as possible since I need to accomodate the grandparents as well.

I hope you and your wife love your mothers a lot...I couldn't imagine having my mother or my mother-in-law staying at my place for that long (despite the fact that I love them both very much), but maybe that's partly due to the fact that I have no kids yet. I've heard grandmas make excellent babysitters... ;)

We do. My wife's mother is a great cook, so BOOYAH!

They do indeed.  ;D    DATE NIGHT!

Did you guys have any plans for Florida State? If not, then I will put in a bid for June 29th and 30th.

I talked to them about it. No bid. Our group (or lack thereof) has been dissapointed due to loss of many members and participation. I think we only ran like 1-2 tournaments this year. And besides, it would be easier for the (3 i think it is...) of us to go up there rather than all of those kids to come down here anyway. (and the adults too i assume)

June 29th & 30th sounds fine. Friday nights are always tough for me to make on time since I have fellowship after work and then normally help my pastor with grocery shopping after that so most times I don't get home till about 7ish.

Is states confirmed for 29th and 30th?

Not yet. I was waiting for confirmation from my group about their availability. Their parents gave me that at yesterday's tournament. I will put in the application tomorrow.

It looks like Southeast Regionals for July 13 & 14 is a go, too, but I won't have enough money to put in an application until I get paid on May 15th.

entry fee costs?

For which tournament?

For my Local and District tournaments, I do not normally charge entrance fees. My general playgroup can not afford the fees, so I removed them to encourage attendance. Donations are gladly accepted.  ;D

For the State and Regional tournaments, I will likely have to charge a nominal fee, especially since you get a handful of promos.

Will South Florida Redemption be making an appearance next weekend?  :prayer:

I'm trying to rally the troops, but there's not much of a response for the District. They seem more interested in States & Regionals. I even contacted the Ft Myers crew, but no response as of yet.

Sounds good! I just got the official confirmation from Rob today, so I will make a thread about it soon. Let me know what schedule of events would best suit your group's needs. I can't make any promises, but I will do my best to accomodate as many peoples' needs as possible. The categories are T1-2P, T1-MP, T2-2P, TEAMS, and Sealed Deck.

There's a nasty rumor that he might be coming to the Florida State Tournament. I would recommend sending him thousands of PMs until he gives in and comes.

Indeed I was.  And it was a GREAT day spent with YMT's family and friends.  A few of them were kind enough to remember my last visit, and it was good to reconnect with them.  And there were also at least 2 players there for their first tournament ever (including my 2nd daughter).  It was the perfect place to introduce her to Redemption tournaments.

I was proud of my oldest (Alecia), who was in the game for 2nd place, and only lost by 1 LS (thus dropping to 4th).  And I was proud of Katrina for having a blast and being happy with rescuing some LSs from some tough opponents.  Meanwhile the tournament overall was a ton of fun with a bunch of close games.  3 of my 4 wins in T1-2p were by only 1 LS, and I barely made it to the championship round of T1-mp.  I also really enjoyed teaming up with my fellow teacher even if our deck experiment didn't quite work out as well as planned.

As for FL states, we'll just have to wait and see ...

Personally I just want to play Sealed.

We're divided on preferences. I'd like T12P and I believe Majus too, my brother wants T1MP and Hunter wants Sealed. We would arrived late Friday night, 9:30ish in Orlando.

So why don't we plan on T2-2P on Friday night, so you guys can take your time getting here. Depending on number of participants, we may have to double up categories on Saturday.

I noticed that none of them mentioned TEAMS.  Could we run TEAMS on Fri night at the same time as T2-2p?  That way it wouldn't have to double up with one of the events on Sat, and it would also give players who don't have a T2 deck something to play on Fri.

I am open to this plan. Indeed, none of my players have T2 decks. I was just going to play Civilization and Age of Empires.  ;)

I had presumed that some of the South Florida guys have TEAMS decks, even though they did not mention it. I had already envisioned a team of twins, as well as the Master & his apprentice. I could be wrong, though.  :-\

Really...? I thought it was going to be at your house, isn't that what was posted? If so, can you post the address of the church again?

As surprising as it may seem, my brother & I have 'never' played Teams together. Majus & his apprentice haven't said anything about teams or even playing together and neither Majus's former teammate. I'm the only person who was interested in trying out T22P, but its ok if I miss out.  I don't like long games. Type 1 is fine for me.

When is Regionals?

I'm not sure that this will be a possibility. I have already told you about my concerns for the big tournaments. If you, me, and Josh all play TEAMS, there will no qualifying judge for our games. Maybe you should team up with Josh Kopp.  :o

The parks are there year round.  The FL State Tournament is ONLY this weekend.  This is their chance.

Also, tell Majus that I want to see this 1.5 deck in action, and see if it lives up to the hype :)
