???Battle for the Belt tournament???

I want to create a tournament that combines all the events into a point pool that ends with an overall champion.

For instance
T1-2p would award
7pts for 1st
5pts for 2nd
3pts for 3rd
3pts for the best sportsmanship (awarded by judge vote)
(Judges would also be able to deduct points for inappropriate behavior)

T2-2p
7pts for 1st
5pts for 2nd
3pts for 3rd
3pts for the best sportsmanship (awarded by judge vote)
(Judges would also be able to deduct points for inappropriate behavior)

Booster
7pts for 1st
5pts for 2nd
3pts for 3rd
3pts for the best sportsmanship (awarded by judge vote)
(Judges would also be able to deduct points for inappropriate behavior)

T1-MP (open to those who skip out on t2-2p this provides an out for people who don't have the card pool or desire to play t2-2p. It's worthless points for the grand championship to encourage people to play T2-2p)
5pts for 1st
3pts for 2nd
1pt for 3rd
3pts for the best sportsmanship (awarded by judge vote)
(Judges would also be able to deduct points for inappropriate behavior)

The four would be district level

After all the tournaments categories conclude we will add all points together from categories and judges tallies. Then we will have the grand champion, the overall runner up and overall 3rd placer.

Grand Champion would receive a customized (redemption championship belt)
Overall runner a medal
Overall 3rd a medal

Each of the top three would win X number of Di or TxP packs.

This tournament financially would be to support missions work. I would use the money to cover cost exceeding the 200.00 dollars I would donate for the tournament and the rest would go directly missions work.

With this being a fundraiser I would offer the opportunity for everyone to purchase overall points for a $5.00 donation a piece (limit 3 purchased points max)

I would have to work out prices depending on offers of donations for booster and food and so on. All categories would be included in the price.

Is this the kind of thing people would fly in for? Would it be best to have multiple nights?

A few random thoughts:

1 - Playing in 4 events would be hard to do.  It is pretty easy to fit in playing in 1 Fri evening, 1 Sat morning, and 1 Sat afternoon.  The 4th event would have to either be in the middle of the night on Fri, or else late Sat which makes it harder for people to get home.  It might be better to cut it to 3 events (T1-2p, T2-2p, and one multi-player event like Booster).  Having an odd number of events also makes it harder to have an overall champion who is tied because they both won 2 events.

2 - Speaking of ties, I'd try to rework the scoring so that it is harder for ties to occur.  Currently two wins and a 3rd place would tie a win and two 2nd places.  Also three 2nd places would tie a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finish.  Also a win and two 3rd places would tie two 2nds and a 3rd.  If you change the pts for a 1st place finish to 9, then it makes ties a lot harder.

3 - I really don't like the idea of buying points.  Just charge a $15 admission and score the tournament straight up.

4 - I doubt that I would travel more than 1 state for a tournament like this in it's current form.  I just don't have the time/budget for long-distance trips to play Redemption other than Nats.  At the same time, this sounds really fun, and it would be great to see everyone more than once a year :)

1 T1-Multi is an option for people to opt out of t2 if they don't want to play it or don't have an available deck. This is also why T1-Multi is worth less in the scoring system.

2. This is a rough format I'm looking for ideas an feed back on the idea. Do you have any suggestion for scoring?

3. There would be an admission fee but that is yet to be determined. I can see not wanting to cause finaces to be the reason someone would or would not win the tournament. I was looking for extra/easy ways to generate money for missions.

4. What kind of things would make it worth traveling to you? Or is it just too much to ask no matter what things would be offered?

I would suggest that any event that is held should be worth the same amount of points.  I also think it is better to have 3 events that everyone plays in, than it is to have 1 event where the players are divided between 2 events.

2. This is a rough format I'm looking for ideas an feed back on the idea. Do you have any suggestion for scoring?
I actually did up there, but if you missed it I suggested changing the points for 1st place to nine.  That helps eliminate ties, and also gives a bonus for winning the whole thing.  Moving from last place to 3rd place increases your points by three, and moving from 3rd place to 2nd place increases your points by two, but moving all the way to the top spot deserves to increase your points by four.

3. There would be an admission fee but that is yet to be determined. I can see not wanting to cause finaces to be the reason someone would or would not win the tournament. I was looking for extra/easy ways to generate money for missions.
You have two mutually exclusive goals here.  One is to make a really fun tournament that a whole bunch of people will want to come to.  The second is to make money for missions.  Doing the first one right will COST a lot of money and get back little.  Doing the second one right will cost a little money and get back a LOT.  I think you might need to split your goals into separate events.

4. What kind of things would make it worth traveling to you? Or is it just too much to ask no matter what things would be offered?
Realistically traveling more than 3 hours for a tournament probably just wouldn't happen for me unless it was a "big" event (like T2-only, Nats, etc.) and somehow my traveling expenses were paid for (or at least there was a good chance of it, like the tourney paid travel expenses for anyone who finished top 3 in any event).

sounds great, lodging would be an issue, and my funds are very limited, couldn't make it to nats past 2 years and more since stopped playing some before that, if there were a way to play all 4 events would be fun because I think I could hit top 3 in at least 2 events, but I'm still designing new decks and haven't play tested any of them yet.  One entry fee would be fair (unless supplies were required then that may be extra etc)

1. The idea behind making the secondary option worth less is to encourage people to play the intended category. T1-Multi is more people who don't want to play t2-2p which is one of the main events. This way people will play T2 unless they absolutely can't, or won't.

2. Missed it sorry.

3. Redemption for Micah works, why wouldn't another large fun tournament be able to produce the same kind of result for missions?

4. In other words there isn't a realistic way tht you would travel anywhere except nats.

I guess that makes sense.  I was just thinking that by only offering the T2 event at one time, that it would encourage people (like me) who don't normally play T2 to at least give it a try for the sake of the overall tournament.  It could be a way to expand people's experience with the game.

3. Redemption for Micah works, why wouldn't another large fun tournament be able to produce the same kind of result for missions?
Redemption for Micah is raising money for a child of on of our Redemption brethren who is in a life or death situation, and many people have generously donated product so that there have been little to no expenses to recoup.  Thus all the money raised there goes straight to the cause.  I'm not sure that model could be duplicated for raising money for missions.  It just lacks a personal connection to the overall community.  But perhaps I underestimate the generosity of the community and you could pull it off.

4. In other words there isn't a realistic way that you would travel anywhere except nats.
Unfortunately that's probably right.  I enjoy playing Redemption, and I really enjoy seeing all you guys.  But I am a husband and father of 4, and I am teaching at a Christian school where we all sacrifice our paychecks to make it possible for anyone to come here regardless of finances.  I would make twice as much money if I worked at McDonald's, and my wife doesn't get paid at all for her jobs as a reading specialist for another local elementary and as director of a crisis pregnancy center.  So supporting a family of 6 on that is a challenge, and I am blessed to be able to attend Nats as often as I have.

I would be willing to make a trip for that just because it sounds fun.
Two wrongs don't make a right but three rights make a left. Either way, God will get you there.
