Calling all Type 2 players within 15 hours driving distance of MN or willing to fly in. Best tune up for National. Type 2 is a lot of fun right now. No dominant deck type, lots of options for good decks.
Details for Type 2 Only
Redemption Tournament March 1-2, 2013
Location: North Heights Lutheran Church
Arden Hills-Upper Centrum or Great Hall
1700 W. Highway 96
Arden Hills, MN 55112
Lodging: Stay overnight in the church on Friday night, doors open at at 6:00pm.
Money available to help with traveling expenses for anyone traveling from outside the great state of Minnesota. The last couple years we have had a number of people fly in.
Cost: Free
Pizza, pop, etc…. will be available for purchase.
Tentative schedule:
Friday: 7:00 Type 2-Multiplayer (2-3 rounds depends on numbers and how late everybody wants to play) We will be playing RESTRICTED TYPE. This Restricted Format allows up to 3 Good and 3 Evil Dominants for Type 2 Events. Restricted play will just be for Multi.
Other games available to play (bring your favorite).
After Multi is over we will play some specialty category to be determined. Could be a Perkins run.
8:00-8:30 Breakfast for those staying overnight
8:30-9:00 Registration and deck check in
9:00-7:00 Type 2-2 player (7 rounds because we want to. Since we have all these good players attending)
We will be having an Ironman Tournament on Saturday for those in attendance not playing Type 2. Winner will receive prizes.
Besides normal prizes for a local tournament; 1, 2 & 3rd place winners of Type 2-2 player and Type-2 Multiplayer will get a chance to win 4 new starter Decks. 1st place in each category will get three chances, 2nd place two chances and 3rd place one chance. So if you won Type 2-2 player and placed 3rd in Type- Multiplayer, you would have a 4 in 12 chance to win the new cards. Also Championship t-shirts for the winners of each category.

Specialty Category Ideas
In past years we have done T2 Sealed and T2 Booster. We have repeatedly contemplated T2 TEAMs, but have yet to come up with a way to have a TEAMs event that would finish in less than a couple of days. :(
This year I have two initial ideas:
1) T2 Budget Builder -- You bring a deck in that costs less than $X (X to be determined) based on Three Lions Gaming prices.
2) T2 Card Designer -- You bring or are supplied with a bunch of cards, some mailing labels, and a set of stickers. The mailing labels would each have a generic special abilities printed on them (e.g., "May band to one character of the same brigade," "Negate the last enhancement played"), while the various stickers would correspond to Warrior/Weapon/Territory class icons. Each player would be given some time to design their own deck out of these elements.
Let me know what all y'all think. If you have other ideas or have an thought on how to play T2 TEAMs in some reasonable time, post them here.

I think we can do type 2 teams this year.
Each team checks in one legal T-2 deck.
One player gets all the good cards, his teammate gets all the evil cards and they split the LS and other neutral cards.
Should go fast, you won't have to build two new type 2 decks, could split your regular deck. But you can build 1 new one if you want to take advantage of the rules.
What do you think?

Seems reasonable, I like that. Otherwise, Budget Builder would be my first option, but Card Designer is fine with me too.

Just make Budget Builder uncommons and under. No rares or ultras. Maybe not promos as well. Adding up the values of every single card would take forever.

One month to get your decks ready for some good competition. Tim is getting a deck ready, the Guardian is back in the saddle, Gabe has been practicing and will be making the trip north, the newly wed in Wisconsin wants to teach his bride to play, college boy from Tennessee, Green Dragon blowing his Horn, and Jordan and Nathan are sitting in the weeds waiting for any out of state victims . Now if we can get the Canadians to come and that old guy from KC, we will have a full house.

I'm sure we can get her a couple Iron man games on Saturday. Usually their are new players that come and play type one.

Bump/poll.
At the game night some people made a fuss about multi being restricted format, and Bill said that he would change it if that was what everyone wanted. Do you want restricted or not?

More ideas for the special category:
Border Decks: All cards in your type 2 deck must have the same color border or we could make it two colors so that we could use a "core" color and a back-up color I guess. We'd have to hammer down which colors can go with which because a card might have a light green border and another dark green so we would need to establish which cards can be which and we can also be flexible. The greatest trouble with this would probably be the distinction between red and reddish orange.
2-Player Booster: This was suggested by TheGuardian and I'm quite fond of the idea. I think the way he was thinking was that we would draft with 4 people as usual but then instead of multi, we'd be paired up with people that weren't at the table we drafted from (or at least on the first round or something). This, being type 1, would also not have to take as long as a type 2 category so we wouldn't be up all night.
Thoughts? Suggestions? Haikus?

Get your decks ready the competition is going to be the best ever. All the past winners of the type 2 shootout will be in attendance and a couple newbies, the Beer brothers will be in attendance. To bad Rawrlolsauce isn't playing this year. Some one else will have to come up with a big first round upset.
The fun starts this Friday. I will be at the church by 3:00pm.

Another thought for the special category (going along--sorta--with Wild Bill's idea). What about T2 Pickem? This is multi-player, but each player divides his deck in three piles after sorting--Good, Evil, Neutral but not Souls--and then divides his souls proportionally amongst them. At any point when you are allowed to draw you get to choose which pile(s) to draw from. Just another wacky thought.

Sadly, I do not even understand what is being asked by this question. What is "restricted format" for T2-MP and why would/wouldn't I want to have it?

Restricted format means you may only have up to 3 good and 3 evil dominants in your deck.

I would rather not have restricted format as it is not consistent with other tournaments offering the category. In my opinion optional rules should only be allowed for fun games.

I would actually vote for keeping the Restricted format. I've been planning my decks with that rule in mind.
That being said, I would much prefer the Restriction be 4 and 4 instead of 3 and 3.

Rob put in the option for restricted play becuse so many people complained abbout Dominants. I think it would affect Type 2 Multi in a good way and the only way to find out is to try it. We would have to keep it at 3 good and 3 evil to make it an official catagory.
As of now Type 2 multi games seem to go like this: someone gets a lead and everybody plays their dominints against them until everybody is tied at 4,5 or 6 and the games time out or someone wins 7,6,6,6. I think it would lead to less time out games and might be more fun.
Right now I'm planning on playing restricted just for Multi unless there is a ground swell against it. ("I Have The Power") It was always posted as restricted play for multi.

Turnitin crashes on Sunday from 1000 students trying to turn everything in at the same time, so that's probably not the best idea.

Maybe I can tempt you to come. We have been having trouble figuring out the special event this year. I have an Idea. Everybody likes the special events and everybody likes Perkins so I think we should play.
Perkins Type 2 , Details still in the planing stage but here are some thoughts.
1. Sit where ever you want around the table.
2. 100 card decks. 50 good, 50 evil. No neutral, no fortresses, no dominants just good and evil characters and good and evil enhancements.
3. Unlimited supply of LS to be rescued in the middle of the table
4. Player to go first determined by dice.
5. Player attacks player on right. They can only band to a person on their right or left. If they win a LS they switches places with the player on his right. starts a new turn and attacks the next person. If they doesn't rescue a LS, player on their right starts their turn.
6 This continues around the table until someone gets 7 LS. When that happens everyone gets to finish their turn,
7 The person with the most LS at the end of the last round is the winner. If two or more tie they face each other til their is a winner.

Well as I get more and more into t2 I have realized several things about this past years nats. I got good draws, I had a gimmick that no one was ready for. I lucked out that very few people were playing CwD Iron Pan and Darius Decree. I also realized that many of the top tier players where not there or not participating in T-2. I also learned that a win over Jordan was potentially not going to result in a full win. A mistake was made in judging (we missed the call) that may have allowed him enoughim to hold on for a timeout loss instead of just a loss. I have no anticipation of beating Jordan should we play again, I am however working on a new gimmick and we will see if I can get as luky with this one as I did with the other one.
All that said after being repeatedly schooled by gabe and Justin I had no intention of coming to win but rather I was hoping to win 4 out of the 7 rounds. That would have been a huge accomplishment for me ImO.

I was just giving you a hard time. Winning Nationals was a huge accomplishment. There were plenty of top players there. I was actually hoping you might come here and win. It keeps the locals humble and a little hungry.

Seriously Josiah, you took a brilliant idea for a deck and you ran with it. Regardless of what happened during our game, I was clearly outdueled. When Bill told me you guys were coming, I was really excited, both to play you again, and also to hang out. It is really unfortunate that you can't make it, and I hope we can at least play at Nats this year.

The best (game-related) moment of the tournament was getting to see Wild Bill go undefeated through the first five rounds.
The second best was seeing Count Fount win his first Redemption tournament of any type ever.

We all know that winning multiplayer inherently does not grant a prestigious title. We made sure to set the record straight with Craig that 2 player would be where he could prove he was better. Gabe even said he would burn all his cards if Craig won the main event... ::)

Gabe's threat was just to much pressure to put on me....It would have been a dream come true, then I found out he thought showing my beach photo to his cards would have caused the combustion. :o

I believe the Professor of Fortress Alstad got second in multi so yes, an Alstad did place, but sadly it was behind... shoot, can't remember the name... uh, well, maybe I'll remember it later once I get over the fact that I couldn't beat Kirk's beast after a 5-0 lead due to ANB... :P
