Post by: CactusRob on March 09, 2015, 08:51:05 AM
I am pleased to announce that Chris Fachman will be hosting the Redemption National Tournament at his church in Knoxville, TN July 30 to August 1st.

Chris'  UPDATES BELOW:

************************************************************

**Hey guys, so we are using the same schedule as last year (with top cut for Type 1 - 2 player)

 Type 1 2player 10 rounds
 Type 2 2player 6 rounds

Saturday - open at 8am, start play at 9am
 Type 1 Multiplayer 5 rounds
Sealed deck 6 rounds
 Teams 6 rounds

done at 4pm includes lunch break, this leaves lots of time for awards presentation.

* to play in type A you must be 12 or younger and have no national ranking points in any category

**The hotel will be the exact same as 3 years ago, just under different owner ship and a different hotel name:

RED ROOF INN & SUITES KNOXVILLE EAST (https://www.redroof.com/property/Knoxville/TN/37924/Hotels-close-to-Crosswood-Blvd-I-40/RRI747/)

**Nearest Airport: McGhee Tyson - TYS (http://www.flyknoxville.com/)

I currently have 10 rooms reserved under Redemption National Tournament.  The hotel is $59.99 a night, plus state taxes.  I'm getting the rooms somewhat tax exempt through my church record!  Also if you book a room and need to cancel for any reason, please do it before July 26th, so you don't lose any deposit or any money!

You are welcome to stay at the church for free on Wednesday, Thursday & Friday nights.  You will have to make alternate arrangements for Saturday night due to having to clean the church for Sunday morning.

*****important note!  John M. had other engagements this year and will unfortunately not be at Natioanls, so unless someone else has supplies we will not be able to run the Ironman category this year!*****

Knoxville is excited to host Nationals again. We're already getting stuff ready at the church in preparation for everyone's arrival. It's going to be a great weekend and I'm ready to have everyone crash up on the Youth Floor again.

Nats in TN was awesome it was one my earliest tournaments.  I really enjoyed it.  Chris did a great job running it.   Odds are that it may be out of my range a bit this year but if the right car pool situations arise I may be able to make it.

Title: Nationals Questions
Post by: Crashfach2002 on April 04, 2015, 11:29:08 PM
Hey guys,

I know not everyone came to Nationals in 2012, but we are basically going to have everything mostly the same.

We are going to have lunches offered everyday at $5.

I'm going to have cokes, candy, snacks for sale.

One nice change is that I have permission to put showers INSIDE the church, so there will be no portable showers with no hot water!

You are welcome to stay at the church on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday night, but you will need to make plans for Saturday night.

I will be reserving a hotel, but the one I just in 2012 has changed ownership and companies, so I've got to get over there and check it out make sure it looks OK.  I know there are some other hotels in the same area, but they are either not a place I would stay at or a little more expensive than I would like.

The hotel at Strawberry Plains Pike is honestly the highest quality, cheapest hotel that is available.  It is over 10 miles away from the church, but all of the places between downtown and the church are places that I would not have anybody stay at (mostly for fear that they would catch a disease).  And the hotels downtown are WAY overpriced because they are downtown (which is not that fancy!  :)).

If you plan on flying in and want a ride, you need to let me know weeks in advance.  The airport is over 20 miles away.  It is a very easy drive, but I can't just leave and pick someone up without knowing they are coming.

I will get in touch with Rob about the schedule for the tournament.

I can go ahead and tell you that the pricing will be the same.  $10 for open categories and $15 for the two sealed categories.  And they will be full price for the 1st category and then half price for the 2nd & 3rd category.

I know Rob will bring products, Chris Bany will be bringing some sleeves and card boxes.  I know Travis will be bringing some products/cards to sell.  I will also have cards to trade, and I'll be modifying the offer for the Storehouse and you can always buy cards from there and pick it up at the tournament for no shipping!

***Added***

You are welcome to stay at the church for free on Wednesday, Thursday & Friday nights.  You will have to make alternate arrangements for Saturday night due to having to clean the church for Sunday morning.

If you think of anything else that you would like to know about please just ask and I'll address it.

We just updated the cube with TEC cards and made it slightly larger to accommodate 12 players per draft. Check it out here: http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/game-play-variations/want-your-input-on-building-gem-city-games-redemption-cube!/ (http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/game-play-variations/want-your-input-on-building-gem-city-games-redemption-cube!/). So I was thinking about making a second cube, either a duplicate of the one I linked to or a Pauper Cube where all the cards had to be below a dollar in value. What are your thoughts if you are coming to Nats?

Hey Travis,

I'm not sure if you saw my "pauper" cube or not, but I know that would be a good starting point.  Of course, there are a lot more and better cards that are now listed under $1

Having played in both Nationals that had Top Cut, I've glad to see it is returning this year. It was pretty successful both years we've had it, and a few people who originally weren't fans (including Chris Bany) have been won over. You can't please everybody, but I'm glad most of the leadership is on board.

Wow. When did this Message Board become a dictatorship? All other passionate discussions in the past month have just been split off into new threads. This one gets deleted. Sorry, but you cannot thank me for an understanding that I do not have.

A new fun prize was announced to be tested at nats with the article even saying the might expand it in the future depending on how it goes, and literally the first thing people did was derail it into complaints about how they wanted more categories to have the prize.  I think the removing was warranted.

I find myself wondering what direction these players might go.

Would they reprint an old card of a bible character they really like?
Would they find a person in the bible that they share a name with and do something with that?
Would they go for a reprint of one of the OT Prophets who need a reboot? (Elijah, Elisha, Jonah?)
Will they want to create a character that covers a weakness in their favorite defense?

There are so many directions this can go.

If I won both(never gonna happen) I would be leaning towards a Elijah, Elisha reprints.

This would be my card

Noah
9/5 (lived 950 years) Blue/Green Brigade (patriarch/prophet)
Negate protect abilities. (because there was no protection from The Flood other than The Ark)
Search deck for A New Beginning and you may play it. (self explanitory, but allows you to play ANB from hand if it's not currently in your deck).

Cheers m8s.

I agree! Noah, Abraham, and Adam I would love to see get a reprint! Me and Mitch were talking about how maybe a Noah's Ark Fortress could be cool too that could offer protection, but only last maybe 4 turns or something for 40 days and nights of the flood. Super excited for all of the upcoming tournaments all the way to Nationals along with the newest upcoming release on top of the other fun new promos!! :) Thank you!!

Que
3/6 Orange Brigade Evil Character. Demon.
Evil Enhancements with Mist in the title cannot be negated. If captured, Que becomes an angel.

It would be cool if the two winners worked together to make some type of combo to a something that needs a boost.
Agreed.  My card, to combo with Westy's...

A New Beginning
4/5  Green Brigade Good Enhancement
ALL players shuffle ALL cards in the field of play, set-aside areas and their hands (except this one) back into their draw pile. Only cards in Land of Redemption and discard piles remain. ALL players Draw 8 new cards. Holder may begin a new turn. Play as written. Cannot be errata'ed.  May not be errata'ed.

ANB will be blue if we ever reprint it. Apart from that you're spot on. ;)

I'm glad that there is less than zero percent chance that both you and Westy will both take 1st place. ::)

Here's the card I'd make:

Que
3/6 Orange Brigade Evil Character. Demon.
Evil Enhancements with Mist in the title cannot be negated. You may draw two cards. If captured, Que becomes an angel.

"I think the problem with Redemption is not enough drawing." - Gabe

That's pretty good Sauce, but I'd make the following change. I think this change would really improve the game.

Quick question, never been to Nationals but my kids play in the Creation Fest Tournaments every year. Just curious on how much average cost for one person is going to be if we get to come and join in the fun? And how many games to get play in a day?
Thank you,

Depending on which categories a person plays, the most a person would pay is 27.50 total for all three days of play. You could still play all three days for as low as 20.00, if you chose the cheaper categories each day. The other expenses all depend on your preferences, how you travel, where you stay, what you eat, etc. There is free lodging at the church, or there are hotel options as mentioned earlier in the thread. So min cost per person is $20 if you play everyday, but the rest is pretty customizable to your budget and preferences.

The number of games depends also on the categories you play, but if you pick the three most popular categories each day, then there will be 6-7 games per day.

I will also be supplying lunch all 3 days.  Two days the meal will be right around $5 and the other day will have a meal around that or a little cheaper, if you want less food.  :P  (It will be pizza by the slice to not be so cryptic.)

A few things:

Nats in Knoxville again? Hmm...will have to talk to the wife.

The liability release on Bany's site has the dates from the first tourney in 2012. That probably needs to be changed to make it legal.

I've never thought about creating a Cube for Redemption, but that's something I could do with my cards.

I haven't touched my cards in a looooooong time, so I'll probably be selling them. I definitely need to actually catalog them. Bany's spreadsheet used to be the best to organize cards, is there an updated version somewhere or a different one that has been created?

Maybe I missed it but I was looking back and couldn't find a final answer as to what is being included for Nats draft.  Is there any official answer?

Sorry I was going to put another poll on the boards, with the new set, and I just haven't got around to it.  I know the way people were leaning based on the last voting, so I'm going to make them all similar to that!

Hey guys,

Unfortunate news!  John M. Has prior commitments this year and will not be there to run the ironman category.  I know his presence will be missed!  Figured I would let everyone know ahead of time.  If anybody else has the supplies and prizes to run it please let me know so I can let everyone know!

I might be able to put that together. I am going to start a separate thread to gauge interest in Iron Man being offered at Nats this year. If there is interest then I will try to make it happen.

Rob will have limited packs, so it will be limited based on how many people will be there.

Greetings to those traveling to Knoxville as I write this. I wanted to send out a personal invite to everyone coming in tonight to join us at Meridian for our services. If you are arriving early, please be aware that there will be people here for church tonight. If you plan on arriving before 6pm, please come to one of our services. Our Youth Service will begin at 6:30 tonight (hopefully, I have to help the kids out downstairs at 6:15). Typically some of our students will get together before 6 to throw Frisbee or football. If you have children, our Children's Ministry has Word of Life beginning at 6:15pm on the first floor. My wife will be teaching tonight and I even get to make a special appearance. If our Youth or Children's Services don't fit you just right, our adults meet for a time of prayer and Bible Study in the Sanctuary at 6:15pm. Services will wrap up around 7:30pm and Chris and I will be finishing up the setup for the morning. See everyone soon, and blessings on your travels.

As mentioned, this tournament already happened, and we are in the 2015-2016 season.  However, the National Tournament takes place around the same time each year, so it will be that week give-or-take a week or two.  Hope to see you there :)
