Hi everybody, I am returning to Redemption after a few years off (had to finish college!) and decided to rejoin these message boards. I was here once upon time at the old message boards but didn't post much. It's nice to see some names that I recognize. Having graduated I have know moved to Maryland and am in the process of establishing a playgroup there (already have 4 players including me). So I just wanted to say Hi and ask for prayer for this playgroup, I am hoping that the Lord will grow this group! Cheers! :)
-
Welcome back! :)
-
Welcome back! ;D
Where in Maryland are you?
-
I'm from Maryland. What part are you in?
-
Where in Maryland? We have a playgroup in south central PA...
-
Wb dude, This is redemption_rocks. I Canz type good now ;).
-
to Marti and Sean: I'm in Abingdon, Maryland not to to far from south/central PA. I saw your group online and wasn't sure if you were still active.
to TheKarazyvicePresidentRR: Hi I remember you. It's good to see your still playing!
On the tournament hosts page it lists a couple of hosts for maryland, does any one if any of them are still active?
-
Gretel and I will be in Adelphi/Hyattsville MD come July....about an hour away or so...maybe we can get something going by then :P Welcome back, my old SN was cybercrusader...
-
Maryland hasn't had a tournament for about a year.
-
I'd totally be willing to help with anything in MD.... MD has kinda died on the tourney scene.

TechnoEthicist : Are just visiting the area in July? If you could pm me with a date I am setting my first Local Tournament and I was thinking around July might be a good time for a first tournament (My players are coming along nicely).
I would like to host tourneys pretty regularly but I want to start small and try to generate some more local interest to grow the group. Maybe I can host next years State (Lord Willing...), We have a decent sized church and there are several motels and restaurants around here so we would probably be good for a large-ish tournament some time in the future. Any one have any tips for growing a small group?
-
I played my first Redemption tournament in Maryland YEARS ago, probably 10 years or so (I think it was just after Warriors). I barely remember anything in it except that my dad placed somewhere, and there was the soda Dr. Wow there. Not sure if you were involved in that, but who knows?
-
Since you appear to be rather close to 95 it will probably be easy for me to get to you in the event that I am able to come. I live in Germantown which, if you don't know, is in northern Montgomery county. I will be working in Nebraska until July25 and then will be down to NC on August 7. If you have a tournament between those dates I would try to come and help out. Don't feel like you have to try and work around my busy summer schedule though.
-
Brad and Gretel are moving to Maryland after they get married. It'll be mid july.
I live about 2 hours from there now, but I am probably moving near Philadelphia in next year or so, which is only an hour and a half away.

Wow. Small world. I used to live in Germantown when I was teaching at Montrose Christian School in Rockville. My son was born at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring. You can imagine how fun it was getting my pregnant wife from Germantown to Silver Spring using the Beltway. :o
-
Yeah, getting to Holy Cross from Gtown is quite an adventure without a pregnant woman in the car.
When did you teach at Montrose? I know a couple of people who were students there.

I taught there from 1997-1999, then became a Youth Pastor in Hagerstown.
-
YMT, you lived in Hagerstown? I live 45 minutes north of there and go shopping there all the time. I go to church in Chambersburg.

-
Yes. That was during the Pokemon card craze, but I had a small Redemption playgroup. I didn't know anything about tournaments or the boards. I bought the Factory set for $99, though. ;D
-
I'm not sure of the years that they attended but do you recall the last name of Hawksford or Sebastian? I'm pretty sure they weren't there while you were but just wondering.
-
Blessings everyone!
Ok, if I ever did host a 2009 State Tournament in MD:
1. Which one-day date would be ideal for those who may be able to attend? Please note that July is tight because of two dates: July 10-11 ( NorthEast Regionals (http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/index.php?topic=15138.msg236362#msg236362)and July 29 - August 3 ( 2009 Nationals (http://www.redemptionsocal.com/nats2009Home.aspx))
2. Would Korunks be able to provide the venue? I will take care of all logistics including card supply etc. c/o Walsh Conley (http://search.cartserver.com/search/search.cgi?cartid=s-2791&category=walshconley&keywords=+redemption%20card%20game&go=GO%21&maxhits=5). I will need the venue as early and as late as possible.
3. We could always arrange for a non-weekend MD States if you wish. I wish to maximize attendance at this tourney especially for those who will not be able to attend Nats this year.
4. Sean and I could probably try to invite the DiMaggio's to attend (they're only about an hour away from Korunk's area). We can all pray this happens --- a comeback of a once largest recorded playgroup in MD). Marti --- I should put you in charge of the prayer mission for this, k? Remember the nostalgia? Just ..... awesome.
That's all for now.
THINKTANK, ALL!
Godbless.
-
Who were you on the old boards?
-
Sean and I could probably try to invite the DiMaggio's to attend
I'm not trying to be a Pessimistic Pete but I'm not confident they would come because of the lack of participation since June of last year. I know they were having some hectic stuff involving their house and renovations and such. If the tournament is advertised and they are able to come I wouldn't doubt that they would try to be there. I just think other things are taking priority right now. Of course, I say this having lost communication with them because all I have is Ginger's e-mail and she doesn't seem to use it...at all.
-
SoulSaver: My name was the same as it is now, I was Korunks on the old boards.
About hosting a state tournament in 2009, did you mean host it before Nationals this year? How big are state tournaments? The Venue I have access to may not be large enough. I also have no tournament hosting experience, (never even been to one). I am not trying to say no I am just trying to get details so I can take it to the Lord in prayer. I am excited about the oppurtunity but I am concerned about the details.
-
I believe that Roy (Reyzen) was suggesting that he be the host with your place being the location. Because you haven't hosted a tournament before, you wouldn't even be given the bid to host a state tournament yet. That's where Roy's experience comes in. As far as numbers, I would expect no more than 20 people to come not including those of your own play group that you have going right now.
-
Just out of curiosity how many of you guys are here in maryland or at least close to this location??
-
The Shipwreckers are 2 hours away, (That's 4) and our fifth, Gretel is moving near DC.
~TM.
-
If we can all figure out a date I will inquire with my church family to see if we can host it. I am open to almost any time between now and nationals, Weekend tourneys will work best for me, during the week I am unavailable untill 5:30 Most days.
-
Ok people, we almost have a 'go' from Korunks. ::)
So far, the following dates are spoken for ( unofficial = :-*/ official = ;) ):
07/29 - 08/01 Nats 2009 (CA)
****************
07/10-11 - NorthEast Regionals (Marc Vellake to host in Cortland NY) :-*
****************
04/04 - MA States (John Michaliszyn & Sam Nurge to host in Lynnfield) ;)
04/25 - RI States (John Michaliszyn to host in Warwick) ;)
05/23 - CT States (John Michaliszyn to host in New Milford) ;)
06/12-13 - PA States (Mike Berkenpas to host in Monroeville) :-*
05/29-30? - NY States (Jon Greeson to host in Little Genesee) :-*
??/?? - MD States (?? to host in ??) :prayer:
??/?? - NJ States (?? to host in ??) :prayer:
I myself will prefer a Saturday. Post your own three preferred dates that we all can agree on for Korunks to ask his church permission for.
LET ME KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. :o
ps---Korunks, we love your board name, but can you share with us your nickname at least? ;D
-
August 1 would be the only day that I would be able to come.
-
Just give me a date and I'll try to come. I'm about 4 hrs away, maybe less. I haven't really looked, butI'm 4 from DC, so you can't much farther if you are farther.
-
Umm I don't have a nickname you can just call me Shawn. A Saturday works best for me also.
***UPDATE*** I got positive feedback from my pastor on hosting the tourney, I just need more details, a date and cost estimates etc.. and I have to make a proposal at our next business meeting which is coming up soon. If we could pull together the info I will make the pitch.
-
Church wise, there's no cost as far as I know. Rey said he'll provide all needed material, the tournament entry fees themselves will cover that, so I don't think you need to front any money, and if you do, it will get repaid by the actual trounament. Someone may have to correct me if I'm wrong.

You are right!
Shawn, all you need is to provide the place for a Saturday (early to late). I will take care of tourney expenses. I will host it, collect fees to defray expenses, and will, together with the players fix the tourney area before and after the games. Your church might want to sell snacks and lunch, etc. Else, we can always order take out food. Therefore, no frills for you, Korunks --- just confirm approval to use the place. Also inform us if there are food stores nearby or if we can order for delivery (i.e. pizza).
Janissary, with your comments --- I knew all along that you were tailor-made to be a host yourself! ;)
ONE AND ALL:
ONCE MORE, BASE YOUR SUGGESTIONS ON THE INFO BELOW ---

I've been bred by Berkenpas ;)
Heh heh heh ...... I do hope to see you at Regionals once more to play another classic match with Reggie.
Are you planning to go to Nats09?
-
No, I can't afford it. I'll settle for Regionals and States
-
What's up. I'm Orangebus08 from the old boards. Not sure if ya remember me. Welcome back. :)
-
OrangeBus I remember you from the old boards its good to see you still around. Does any one have a date in mind or should I choose one and see if it works for everyone?
-
Shawn, why don't you already plan a date or a couple of dates to choose from (I see June 27 and July 18,25 as possibilities) for MD States that your church can approve ASAP. Ask them, and whatever they approve, we'll try to work around that sked.
Let's get the ball rolling for MD, one and ALL!
-
July 25 would be a great way for Gretel and I to get acquainted with the area! We move in July 20-22, one way or another :P
-
Korunks, could we see if July 25 is good for MD States at your church?
-
Already working on it, we have a business meeting tomorrow and I am making my proposal to them then. Please pray all involved and interested that this will go well. I am pretty confident that this a mere formality and we are good but after tomorrow I will probably have the answer. I am going to ask about July 25th, any other dates that any one is thinking please post by tonight and I will include them. Thanks all. ;D
-
*****UPDATE******
Some people cannot read calendars well and apparently I am one of them! The business meeting is next wednesday not last night. I will update again after the decision is made. Sorry for the delay. :-\

Ryupeco11: Hi! I don't know how far away you are, we are located in Abingdon, MD and we meets every Wednesday, and some sundays(unscheduled) as I can. If you can ever make it please come on down
I can provide information and directions if necessary! :)
I guess it is a good thing the meeting didn't happen last week. How about Saturday June 27th? Is that even a possibility? I know its awful close. I am unavailable on July 4th, so any other time?
-
We will be in England from June 21-July 5th (yes I accidentally told Gretel without thinking where we are going) and then in Ohio till July 20, so sadly we couldn't be there beforehand. Ah well, maybe next year. But yes, still get more coming from other areas !! :P
-
Well we are officially approved to Hold the Tournament on June 27 at our Church. ReyZen you can email me and we will hammer out the details.
