Actually USA has been doing good with a recent victory over Spain which is supposed to be the best speculated team entering the Cup.

When we beat Spain (last summer, btw), Altidore (aka the only legitamate scoring threat except Donovan) was healthy, as well as Charlie Davies (got in a car wreck last October, barely missed making the team anyway). Davies is a projected starter, and Altidore is a world class talent with blazing speed, but he currently is nursing a sprained ankle, so things are not looking up. USA is currently ranked 15th in the world.

However Altidore is still starting and Edson Buddle has shown the ability to find the back of the net pretty consistently. The bigger question mark is our defense. We are going to need Oneyewu to be healthy.

What would be funny is to see some star player headbutt the goal bar, a la Gus Frerotte, and knock himself out of the tourney. :D
Also, has anyone heard if Dudu and Pupu are also on the Brazil team with Kaka? :P
I would love to see the US make it to as least the quarterfinals this year. That being said, I think the winner comes from the usual suspects: Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Spain, England or Italy. My darkhorses are Holland and Cameroon.

Argentina and Portugal. I think it was Portugal, that dominated the other game. Those 2 teams are looking extremely impressive. Also the England team I think who's passing completion was 89%... wow. I was disappointed with Brazil's performance yesterday. They might be a great team, but Kaka is making them look stupid.

We'll see how Portugal fares against Brazil. My problem with them was how terrible they looked against the Ivory Coast in thier first game.

Just looking at that 4 bracket with germany vs england playing the argentina vs mexico winner...that's a tough draw.
And usa's bracket is much easier.

What's sad is, they lost 2-1 to the tiny African nation that beat them 2-1 four years ago. Ghana (along with Italy) knocked them out in Germany to. Point, USA is a sad, sad team.

Wow, you're remarkably uneducated. Ghana is better than the USA is at soccer. There are numerous reasons for this (including the lack of popularity of soccer in America), but the the USA is by no means a sad, sad team because they lost to a "small little african nation".
Uruguay has 4 million people in the entire country yet have won the World Cup twice. Just because America has a huge population does not mean they should be good at soccer. Size does not necessarily correlate to anything, especially in proportions of athletic talent, ability of a team to play together, and solid tactics.

Umm, how did he cheat? Suarez got called for the Red card. He did what any intelligent player would have done. It's not his fault Gyan choked that PK.

I wish they had a rule when a player deliberately stops the ball like the uruguay vs ghana game that the goal will count and the player is red carded.

DISCLAIMER: I've never cared about sports at all until my South Korean roommate got me into this year's world cup.To non-soccer watching americans we choked.
I also may not fully understand the usage of the word "choked".

I was sad germany couldnt pull past spain, but as things turned out spain was the best. I wish the people who kept criticizing germany and holland for not being more attacking towards spain could understand how well spain plays on defense.
The ger-uruguay match was fun to watch.
