Title: Why?
Post by: hi123 on May 13, 2010, 07:34:49 PM
I have a question---------------

Why do deck's have to be a minimmum of fifty cards? I mean, why couldnt ya have like a forty-five card deck, but anything under fifty cards must have seven lost souls? Just out of curiosity  ;D

Sarcasm aside, the smaller the deck is, the more opportunity for abuse there is.  Rob decided to set the limit at 50.
As to the LS, it again opens the door to abuse.  Imagine having a 140 card deck with only five lost souls.  You'd never get to make a rescue attempt.

for the 2 lost soul people, this issue is addressed.

OK, I'll play the following:

SoG
NJ
GoyS
CM
Burial
Falling Away
DoN
Altar of Ahaz
Jephthah
Evil Spawn
Shuffler
LS x6
add a HT, TSA, Sword of the Lord, and a prophet and you're set.

To answer the question properly, it's because with a very small deck it's too easy to get powerful cards very quickly.  You could use a 20+ card deck that used nothing but Dominants, LS generation, and a huge CoTH band, for example.  30/30 FBN on turn 2 is pretty hard to stop.

which is why my 20 card deck would have TFG.

Yes.  But the point is that the only way to guarantee that you're going to draw the right counter in time is to use a 20 card deck yourself, or to use an insane number of counters.  And with everyone playing 20 card decks, games would last 10 minutes. ;)

I just had the greatest idea....
20 card deck would be a fun time killer between rounds.

except the decks would be broken. eliminate the time in that sentence. and you might have it right.
