What? ...The alphabet game? You know...where you read the street signs and try to find all the letters of the alphabet...Maybe it's a family thing...

It isn't though we had an option rule (to elongate the game) that only the FIRST letters of words counted.

My family likes to play that game too.

Another fun letter game is to play "don't complete the word".  One person starts with a letter and you take turns going around adding one letter each.  Whoever finishes a word is out.  If you think a person is bluffing (adding a letter to avoid finishing a work but that couldn't lead to an actual real word) then you can challenge.  If they can't tell you what word could be finished from their start, then they are out.  But if they can, then you're out.

Other fun games include travel versions of Connect 4, Chess, and Checkers.  Then of course there are portable game systems like Gameboy and PSP.

In this particular format, we'll have to set the number of players starting the game so we know when to cycle back through again.  Lets' say that the first 5 people to post letters are in the game.  Which means that after myself and 3 other people post a letter it is back to the "other Prof's" turn.  That being said...

Well that's unfair. If there are 5 people, I can already foresee my demise. The rest of the players can very easily conspire to make me lose.

No, that is only an abbreviation, not a real word.  I should also mention at this point that proper nouns and foreign language words also don't count.

Well that's unfair. If there are 5 people, I can already foresee my demise. The rest of the players can very easily conspire to make me lose.
But if we don't limit it, then an unlimited number of people would want to play until there was no way to add another letter, then no one new would want to join, and the original person wouldn't wrap around either.  Thus the game would end.  There has to be a set number.

All that being said, we're back around to "the other Prof" with SYNTH...

I understand. I usually have played this game with at most three people; five just seemed rather arbitrary, and given your choice, redemptioncousin made sure that I would lose by the first five people saying S-Y-M-B-O or S-Y-S-T-E. I might have been able to come up with something, but I doubt it. But he didn't, so I will continue the game:

SYNTHE

EDIT: You're right. I've always played a different variation where you're eliminated if you can't add a letter. Guess thats what I get if I don't read the rules :o.

You don't understand the game. As soon as someone makes a real word, he loses. In order to make any of those words, I would have either had to make symbol or system.

I thought synthetise looked suspiciously like a word, so I looked it up. According to dictionary.com, synthetise is a word, it is the British spelling of synthetize, which is an alternative spelling of synthesize. So if we accept British spellings, Ring Wraith loses. If we don't, then I challenge Ring Wraith to provide a word he was going for.

Sythetiseur. I googled it, but I'm pretty sure it's a foreign word...
if sythetise is British, then it's foreign, right?  :)

which is better than losing! wait...
Sythetism was the only other possibility google showed...and I didn't want to lose. so I cheated.
we should create a seperate topic for this game.

I did too, but foreign words don't count.  In fact for a word to count it must be in the "Scrabble Dictionary", which synthetise is not.

I challenge Ring Wraith to provide a word he was going for.
Sythetiseur.
That word is also not in the Scrabble Dictionary (and is probably foreign), and therefore "the other Prof" wins the challenge.

I think Ring Wraith is disqualified...;D
This is correct.  Which means that we now start the next round with only 4 players left.  Prof A, Prof U, RCuz, and Sauce (in that order).  Since it was Prof A's turn when we finished, he gets to start the next round.

And since this is a car game, people should really play it without using Google or dictionaries to look up words (unless you think a person has finished a word).  We're supposed to be just using our heads here :)

we should create a seperate topic for this game.
This is also a good idea.  Prof A, why don't you start round 2 in a new thread.

when you said RCuz, my first thought was Roy Cruz...

I don't think there was really anything you could've done really except for challenging RCuz's word before you.  I think he was bluffing.  As for the non-explanation of rules, I apologize.  Just trying to remember all the rules off the top of my head was obviously not the best way to go.  Good news is that you're back in as soon as only 3 more people are out.

Synthetism. also a word I googled, but I almost challenged it.
