Title: Sporcle
Post by: TimMierz on December 23, 2010, 11:08:04 AM
Any Sporcle fans here? For those who don't know, Sporcle (http://www.sporcle.com) is a site to take all sorts of quizzes covering a huge range of topics, from music to sports to movies to vice presidential trivia to "name that fruit". I've got a few quizzes submitted right now; perhaps you'd be interested in any of these (http://www.sporcle.com/user/TimMierz/contributed), like identifying Five Iron Frenzy/Brave Saint Saturn songs, or Malta! cards, or Whose Line Is It Anyway? games. I'm also working on a set of quizzes where you identify 20-25 songs all starting with a given letter - see the E, J, K, U, and V quizzes I have there. (If you like the quizzes, comments and ratings are cool too.)

Is anyone else a Sporcle user at all?

I used it for awhile during lectures of a class that was not only boring, but all the slides the Prof used were online, so I didn't even have to take notes. A friend of mine got me hooked. After awhile, I had taken all of the quizzes that I would have any idea about. None of the ones you listed would work for me--I don't listen to either of those bands, and I regretfully have never played Malta! (though hopefully that will change in time).

The Whose Line one was awesome... I could only get 11 though... some of them I had a good idea about but I had never paid attention to the actual names. And a lot of those I had never seen!

I've actually been using it in the past few days. Awesome site, I really like the literature quizzes. I consider myself well read but wow, some of those are really hard.

Thanks to it I've also learned to spell Kerouac.

Pretty fun site. After taking dozens of different quizzes, I'd say the one quiz I would probably get the best score of anyone here on the board would be "World Series of Poker Winners," (past 40 winners of the WSOP Main Event), I got 24/40.

I also got 26/28 of the "Weapons in Halo" quiz (player carry-able weapons in Halo 3). One of the two I missed I could picture in my head, but couldn't think of the name. However, I'm sure MKC (and probably a few others) would easily get a perfect score. :P

My best quizzes were the OT books (missed 2) and NT books (missed 1).

Yeah, it should be more generous with misspellings.  Not giving me credit for Habbakuk was super lame.

I got 95. At first I thought I had to do it in order, so I lost a lot of time trying to spell Venusaur (venosaur, venisaur, etc...) and ended up looking it up, so that one shouldn't count. I also couldn't spell Gyarados (Gyrados...), Vileplume (not sure why...), Victreebell (Victribell, Victriebell), Dewgong (Dewdong), Growlithe (Growlith).

Of course, I'm a horrible speller when it comes to words that you don't use on a daily basis.

as for Generation II, I got 45, with misspellings of:
elekid (electakid), Misdreavus (Misdreaveus), Flaaffy (flaafy), Ampharos (not sure. I thought I spelled it that way...), Totodile (totadile), Croconaw (Crocanaw), Feraligatr (Feriligator), and Forretress (Fortress).

This is what I get for never pronouncing them correctly.

I've published the H and B songs quizzes, here are the links to all of them I have so far:

B songs (http://www.sporcle.com/games/TimMierz/B_songs)
E songs (http://www.sporcle.com/games/TimMierz/E_songs)
H songs (http://www.sporcle.com/games/TimMierz/H_songs)
J songs (http://www.sporcle.com/games/TimMierz/J_songs)
K songs (http://www.sporcle.com/games/TimMierz/K_songs)
U songs (http://www.sporcle.com/games/TimMierz/U_songs)
V songs (http://www.sporcle.com/games/TimMierz/V_songs)

I think right now H and K are the easiest.

"World Series of Poker Winners,

You're on ;) I love the WSOP - I'm going to find and take it now.

.... 26 out of the 40, and I cry foul on Mortensen - I didn't try Juan, because everybody calls him Carlos.....

For those of you looking for an interesting Biblical quiz, I just took this fun one: http://www.sporcle.com/games/Sforzando/bible_200 (http://www.sporcle.com/games/Sforzando/bible_200) - all people (well, mainly people) whose names are mentioned at least 14 times in the Bible. Get your Redemption deck in mind for this!

Basically, the playtesters should make sure every person on that list is a Redemption card. ASAP.

I got a 96 out of 195 on that one. Tough! Even if you typed every Redemption card name you would still miss alot.  I'd like to see what others got.'

I was surprised at some of the names not mentioned... some of the disciples (like Thaddeus) aren't in there.

Thaddeus is only mentioned twice I believe. I was more surprised at how much some people were mentioned.

Yeah same. I guess I just assumed the disciples were mentioned each by name more often. =)
