Title: Shakespearian insults
Post by: fyero on March 29, 2011, 08:56:13 PM
1) Ye mewling dizzy-eyed measle
2) Thou can'st not be but a bawdy toad-spotted skains-mate
3) Thou artless clay-brained apple-john

So this is an actual app my dad has on his phone...it has a lot of these lol

"For I knew the young Count to be dangerous and lascivious boy, who is a whale to virginity, and devours up all the fry it finds"

or even better "Frailty, thy name is woman"

I found these and was like "ummm...."

Romeo, Romeo, where art thy brain?
Refuse thy intelligence and denounce thy education?

I prefer more modern insults:
"He had delusions of adequacy."
- Walter Kerr
"He has all the virtues I dislike and none of the vices I admire."
- Winston Churchill
"I have never killed a man, but I have read many obituaries with great pleasure."
- Clarence Darrow
"I am enclosing two tickets to the first night of my new play; bring a friend.... if you have one."
- George Bernard Shaw to Winston Churchill
"Cannot possibly attend first night, will attend second... if there is one."
- Winston Churchill, in response.
"I've just learned about his illness. Let's hope it's nothing trivial."
- Irvin S. Cobb

Such wonderful use of language.  All my generation knows is four letter words and various indications that something is wrong with my mother.

Haha, and hey some of those four letter words can be very descriptive and perhaps something is wrong with your mother (gasp) ....

Exactly. Why do you think I wander around saying "Good Gravy" even though people look at me like I'm a crazy person. Words are powerful, Im not wasting mine on the four letter kind.

No I do not bite my thumb at you, sir, but I do bite my thumb.

Not really an insult, but it is one of my favorite lines. (Biting one's thumb was equivalent to a certain inappropriate gesture these days....)

I like this one: "Thou bloodier villain than terms can give thee out."
