One of the democrats in the white house just said (sorry I don't remember her name) that: "Mother Teresa and Mao Se Tung: though not often coupled with each other, these are the two historical figures that I turn to most."
Anyone else shocked by this? She was the women who accused Fox News of giving false information and lies.

No. Mao actually had alright intentions, just terrible methods. He's proof that indoctrination works ( and why it's bad).

What were his intentions? And even if they were good... his "methods" were to kill more people than anyone else in history. Worse than Adolf Hitler.
Quote from Mao: "If someone tries to commit suicide, don't try to stop them. We are overpopulated, it's not like we can't lose a few million citizens."
-
His intentions were to create a powerful nation where China would rule China and do so on her own terms not those dictated by the west. Since when is it a crime to want independance and strong Governement that prevents the warlordism that dominated China during the 20's and 30's.
While Mao may be an individual that you can glean some good information from, I find it disturbing that a member of our government does not turn to Jefferson, Washington, or Franklin instead. Even Martin Luther King Jr. would probably be a better starting place than Mao Zedong.

Dr King would ABSOLUTly be better!

It is almost as if she said what she said to be fashionable and trendy in stead of truly reflecting American values.
a thought just occured to me. It could be that given the recent stickiness with the Dali Lama and American Chineese relations, it could be a back channel overture to Chineese civic pride designed to placate the chineese. In otherwords, that quote could be a plant for the Chineese media to pick up and run with.

"Chinese" not "Chineese."
Just trying to keep American-Chinese relations good. ;)

A bundred apologies ( to go with those hundred flowers blooming) to my Chinese friends.
Please do not let my atrocious spelling hinder relations between our great nations!

I don't think it will. One of my teachers spelled it rong. Must be one of the hard to spell words. Like desert and dessert
