Title: RTS Practice Run
Post by: YourMathTeacher on July 10, 2010, 04:34:35 PM
OK, so I have downloaded Hamachi (is LogMeIn the same thing?) and RTS. I would like to get a practice game in so I can see how the interface works, and make sure Hamachi can get through my plethora of security features (I have nosy neighbors). Please understand that you will have to be patient with me. Although I am an adequate teacher, I am a horrible student. Be prepared for many questions.

You don't need a tournament deck. You can just use a starter deck, if you want. Remember that I have not tried either of these yet, so there may be complications (other than my general annoying nature).

Still need someone to test it with you?  I don't see you on my list, what networks are you in?  Join "really logged in" (pass: really) if we don't share any.

Hmm....I would advise joining one (click network > join and existing network in the Hamachi window).  Passwords and networks can be found here (http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/index.php?topic=16988.0).  really logged in is actually full, so forget that one.  If you want, you could create your own network (network > create a new network).  Hope this helps :)

EDIT: if you don't create a network, join "Crustpope 8" (no password) as it is open and I am in it.

Where is the "network > join?" I do not see a "network link anywhere.

Once you power on Hamachi, there should be three words at the top: "System", "Network", and "Help".  Have you created a Hamachi ID yet?

I thought I did, but I do not see what you just said. It doesn't say Hamachi, it says "LogMeIn."

Ah, you downloaded the wrong program then - Hamachi is a LogMeIn program, but they also have a program called LogMeIn that allows remote access of your computer. On the LogMeIn website click 'products' then 'LogMeIn Hamachi Pro2' that should bring you to a page with options to download managed or unmanaged hamachi, you want unmanaged.

Had you followed my convenient RTS guide, you would have had no problems.  ;) You can read it here: http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/index.php?topic=12218.0 (http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/index.php?topic=12218.0)

It has a section that goes over the interface and how to connect, and the correct link for Hamachi.  ;)

Everything is fine now. D-Man was showing me the ropes and we were able to play a few turns. I am official.  ;D
