Title: Redemption Art Contest is Live!!!
Post by: wyatt_marcum on July 01, 2016, 11:44:29 AM
This is the start of something great. We are going to start with a trial of a Redemption art contest this month.
RULES
only 1 entry per person in a category
Art needs to be a minimum size of 600 x 600 at 300 dpi.
Do not submit any art that isn't yours under your own name. that is plagiarism, and you will no longer be allowed to submit to any future art contest if that is found to be true.
any found art needs to be public domain.
all art should be emailed to redemptionartcontest@gmail.com (include your forum name)
you have 30 days from the original post to add artwork. After that none will be accepted.
please remember, keep graphic content to a minimum. The art may be used one day for redemption cards, so if it wouldn't go on a card, don't submit it.
Art will be posted in another thread later to be voted on.
when art is posted later, please do not downvote other peoples art. up vote any that you like, but do not downvote.
THIS MONTHS THEME
This month, there will be two categories.
Living things (Angels, demons, people, animals, etc.)
Non living things (Weapons, cities, places, etc.)
PRIZES
A generous person has been kind enough to help with prizes. If there are 5 or more people in a category, the winner will receive a COW pack!
any questions, please ask below.

Couple things.

1) 600x600px is too small for print quality artwork.
2) 30 days is a pretty small timeframe for a quality art piece.
3) a $5 pack of cards is a pretty insignificant prize for all the work that goes into art creation.

1. How big do you think a Redemption card is?
2. 30 days is the perfect timeframe to have a competition each month.
3. The prize is an extra, the incentive is to potentially have your art on a Redemption card and/or to support a game you love.

the packs were donated anonymously. for the first few, at the very least, there wasn't going to be a prize until, at the very least, it had complete support. this is just a trial run. and the size I got directly from Gabe when I asked him about anything that needed to be specific for if the art was used for cards.

600 X 600 @ 300 dpi fits in the frame without pixelation. Bigger is certainly better though.

I just want to remind people that you are able to put something into both categories.Only one entry has been received so far, and it would be great if we could get a lot more people to enter.

I have an exiting update here that I hope will pull in some extra people into the contest. Three Lions Gaming was kind enough to donate more CoW packs!!! this brings the total prize up to 4 CoW packs, per category. We need to remember, however, that there needs to be AT LEAST 5 entries for a category to be able to receive the prize!!! so far, I only have one person that has entered at all.

I just want to remind people that the prizes are only going to be given out if there are at least 5 entries in a category. we still only have one entry so far.

So, I was thinking about times when I have had art commissioned and the amount of time it took to have it done. Typically the time is longer than a month and less than three months. The difference here is that this is a submission contest without any pay, so I would say that giving folks a longer amount of time might be a good idea. Perhaps if the contest was once a quarter to give those with the artistic talent the time to be inspired and to get the work of creating done. Just a thought. If you are willing to submit a work of art, perhaps you could chime in here so that we know what works for you...

Sure, disregard what I said. We'll see how many art pieces are submitted in 30 days for a pack of cards.

At this point, the guidelines were discussed with Gabe. It might get adjusted if there isn't enough art work,or it might get changed in a different way (such as the theme being announced for August in June, like a magazine I know does it). This isn't anything set in stone. it is just a trial run that people were kind enough to donate packs for a winner.

Proposing a short time window discourages any work on the project whatsoever (except in programming oddly).
