Although I have studied computers and technology my entire life, the one skill I never learned was programming. I want to learn this skill, but I don't really know where to start. I want to program on Windows, but I might like to switch to Mac later in life. I don't know anything, so I'm starting from square 1.
Anyone have any ideas where to start?

Learn a Procedural Programming language such as QBasic, or Scheme. then move on to Object Oreintated like Java and Python. Finally learn data structures in C++ and PHP.

I actually own Visual Studio 2008, so that would work. I just don't know much about it.

So, I'm sitting here programming some VB.NET scripts to load PeopleSoft data into Windows Active Directory when I decide to take a break and see if there are any new threads on the message boards. :)
I would imagine you can learn a lot from free webinars, or just plain ol' Youtube.

I learned a lot from programing my good old TI-83+ and, to a lesser extent, my TI-92+.
I had gotten to the point in 83+ BASIC where I made a little top down RPG style game, where you could walk around, pick stuff up, run into walls, change maps, and it had a seperate battle mode. XD I didnt do too much with it, but I had the engine for it made pretty well. I lost it though I think. :'(
