Hey so all you people who know Pokemon strategies, I'm trying single battle in the battle tower. I'm trying the "trick" team, basically I start with alakazam (I don't have any Pokemon game past pearl so I can't use Uxie), you use trick and give your opponent the choice band that you used to have. Then they can only use the same move over and over. However, sometimes the move they use can be deadly.
So I need advice for my 3rd Pokemon. Alakazam starts and uses trick, then I have garchomp to use swords dance and own everyone in one hit. So my last guy I'd like preferably to have him have high defense. Registeel and Dusknoire come to mind, because they have great special defense and offense. And they can both do cool things. Registeel can use curse and amnesia to become invincible. Dusknoire can use curse to cut his health and give them a curse, then use "split pain" to split health with your opponent.
So yeah... what's a good character that has good special and normal defense but can still attack effectively?

Slowpoke.
Metapod.
Ditto.
Kakuna.
Caterpie.
Weedle.
Pikachu.
Mudkipz

Uxie's in pearl. Also on the the 3rd pokemon try emploeon the typeage and moveset rocks.

Uxie is worthless on this team unless you send him to the move tutor in platinum, where he learns "trick." Which is what this whole team is based on. :D Although he still does have good defense stats... maybe I'll try him out not on the lead...
Also guys, could you please not spam and actually post pokemon with good DEFENSE and SPECIAL DEFENSE? Thanks. :)
-
Hey bro,
Sorry if you thought my post was spam... it wasn't! Metapod and Kakuna both know harden. Ditto can be anyone. The rest will strike fear into your opponents and cause them to run away.

do you need a self destucter? if so alzef.

No I don't. Otherwise I'd definitely use registeel. Good suggestions though, thanks.
@Rawr, I give up. ;)

what is your main team anyways?(if you need mewtwo get HGSS it's worth it.)

Use this Umbreon Set:
Careful Umbreon @ Leftovers
Toxic
Wish
Protect
Payback
-
How do nature's work? i know about EVs but not natures.
-
Natures raise/lower your stats by 10%. For example, the Adamant nature raises your Attack by 10%, but decreases your Special Attack by 10%. They can make the difference between a OHKO and critical HP damage in some cases. Try googling "Pokemon Natures" and you should find a chart that explains which natures do what to which stats.

thanks alex.

I like giving my garchomp leftovers so he can use more substitutes if he gets in trouble... but I might try this. The problem is how do I dish out damage? I prefer guys who have an attack boosting move, such as swords dance.
-
No problem. If you want to be any good at competitive battling, you pretty much have to have good natures and perfect EVs. It's a pain to due in game, which is why a lot of people just use a simulate such as Shoddy Battle to practice and perfect movesets and battle techniques.
-
umbreon is not a attacking pokemon base defense = high, base attack=low.

time to read an amazaing article hear

Your misunderstanding the goal of that set then. Your Choice Banding the Zam right? Honestly I'd try to Choice Specs (is that the one that boosts Spec. Attack?). If it's a Pokemon Zam is super effective or neutral against (and has average to low defenses), use Psychic. If not, use Trick. Then switch to Umbreon. Use Wish, Toxic, Protect, Wish, Protect, Wish til KO. Next Pokemon comes out. If you have a good type matchup with either Zam or Chomp, switch to them. Otherwise, use Toxic, Wish, Protect, etc. Same thing for the third Pokemon.
-
Umbreon is the best Pokemon if you don't want to use ubers.
If you don't mind using ubers, Jirachi is the one for the job.
-
Jirachi isn't uber. Just hard to get in game, which is why I didn't suggest him.

he's event only.
-
I have the Colleseum disc and a bunch of calm Jirachi if you want to trade...once I find my DS charger.
-
Guys this is for battle tower. Can't use most legendaries. But I can use some.
Also, what did you mean with the whole "Zam" thing? I'm not familiar with that...
-
Really? That's ownage. I assume you can Wifi trade? We'll have to set something up. I've always been a little behind most other competitive battlers since I don't have Nintendo consoles XD.
Zam=Alakazam (in case you didn't know). What exactly are you confused about? I might just be assuming everyone thinks like I do.
-
I see the logic and love it. Maybe even try a ghost type, as silly as it sounds. If you trick them into a normal move that could seal their fate.
-
go with gengar for something fast and strong.(@ pol to bad it isn't the japanese one i wants celebi)
-
RR, that's good advice, but the problem is Trick will only help for one Pokemon. So after that it's just a normal battle.
-
Ah, true. Hm, Is there any way to give Zam encore?

Use a wynauted into wobobufft instsnt uber.
-
Actually it is uber. However, I do believe that it is allowed for Battle Tower.
-
not in netendo tournys. can you use wobabuffet without that move?
-
No
-
I totally get it now. Lol Just didn't know what Zam meant. ;D
Yeah I like that strategy. The thing is that what is trick going to do if I have choice specs? That's just going to increase their attacks.
Perhaps I didn't properly explain the strategy. Choice band means they can only do ONE move, once I use trick with alakazam. So they are forced to keep doing the same move. Then I switch in Garchomp or my other Pokemon. They use Swords Dance while the opponent keeps doing the same move (Garchomp and a Steel Pokemon will ensure that no move is super effective, plus Alakazam uses thunder wave to paralyze). So now I have a Garchomp with maxed attack, a substitute, and basically nothing can stop it.
So yeah... my other Pokemon I wanted to be a slower kind of guy that uses curse, which boosts attack and defense. Garchomp boosts attacks and is insanely fast (with EV trained speed there's only 3 pokemon in the battle tower that will attack first).
So that's the strategy. So my 3rd guy needs to be someone who has a good stat boosting move, like swords dance, curse, etc.
Any suggestions? To give examples, Skarmory (steel with swords dance), and Registeel (steel with curse), are both great choices. But is there any other strategy I could implement in this? Wobuffet is definitely an awesome choice, he is allowed at the battle tower (any guy except the extreme legendaries like Mewtwo are allowed). I was thinking maybe Gengar, try to take out one of their guys, then use destiny bond on the second to make a 2-1 fight that I will rarely lose?
-
Couldn't you just switch to someone else and beat the tar outa your garchomp/steel?
-
After Garchomp uses 3 Swords Dance, has a substitute and is one of the fastest pokemon in the game? Probably not. The only problem is if they use ice beam, in which case I bring out a Steel type Pokemon. Also remember that when I have Uxie, once I get my friend to teach him memento (I don't have Platinum, once again) then I can use memento and that makes it super easy to set up.
-
what levels are they?

What if you were fighting a Laparas (sp?) with Ice/Water move sets? I'm not trying to be a pain it just seems like its a huge gamble.
-
Yes, it is. Definitely. Lapras isn't very strong defensively. Therefore I can use trick, then thunder wave (paralyze), then memento (sharply reduces both special attack and attack).
Once this is set up garchomp (of registeel if they use ice beam) can set up. A memento'd lapras shouldn't deal a lot of damage. A garchomp with Leftovers should be able to take 6-7 surfs. I only need 4 turns, 3 swords dance and substitute. Then I'm set.
To answer zmc9, this is battle tower so all my guys are defaulted to lv 50 (all my guys that I'm using are at least that level or above).
