See, IMO, I like Obi Wan (1 of the list of my top 5 favorites that I gave the guy) because I have always seen him as a strict, by the letter of the law kind of guy.  He had a mentor who bent the rules constantly.  He had a padawan (Anakin) who constantly bent the rules and was unorthodox.  He was the one staple...the constant...the unmovable.  When it came to Luke, I don't see how he bent the rules with Luke.  He couldn't train him earlier or Vader & the Emperor would have been tipped off to where he was at.  That was more out of necessity than a willful breaking of the rules.

Plus, Luke was not the only one...remember Yoda said, "No! There is another."  Lastly, I don't think Luke truly became "Gray" until the Reborn Emperor in the comics (Dark Empire).  In Movie 6, he started to use the Dark Side and then willfully said no.  In the comic, he actually began practicing and learning the Dark Side with the hope to defeat it and the Reborn Emperor.

Yoda is one of my favorite characters, alongside Kit Fisto and Ki-Adi-Mundi.  Yoda was a master of Form IV (and I mean a master).  If you read the Martial Arts section of the off-topic forum, you will see that I enjoy training with swords (more like Hasbro lightsabers   ), and I like to attempt to use Ataru like he did.  No one can replicate Yoda's moves, but you must remember that Qui-Gonn and Obi Wan in Episode 1 practiced Ataru, and could use it without doing all of Yoda's flips and spins and such.

And also a question to rap this post up: Luke was balanced with the Light and Dark Sides?! I thought he firmly stated that he was a Jedi and that he was not at all on the Dark Side.  He also regretted using his anger (a.k.a. the Dark Side) to defeat Darth Vader.  I'm semi-confused on this...

Any one here into PROXY?? I think he is the best character with his "wit". Example:
Imperial Officer: Alert! Ship navigation systems have malfunctioned! Repeat, ship navigation systems have malfunctioned!
Darth Vader's Secret Apprentice: Proxy, what did you just do?
Proxy: I've set the Empirical on a collision with a nearby star.
Darth Vader's Secret Apprentice: You what?
Proxy: It seemed like the quickest way to wipe out all witnesses. Lord Vader did clearly specify that no one must know of your existence.
Darth Vader's Secret Apprentice: I knew you were still trying to kill me.
Proxy: No, no. Not yet, anyway.

Example2:
Darth Vader's Secret Apprentice: Shut down, Proxy. There is no one inside you that I haven't already defeated.
Proxy: Give me some credit, master. I have one module you've never seen. An enemy I've stored for years.
[Proxy changes his form to mimic that of Darth Maul]

Example 3:
"My onboard tactical computer suggests that this is the best time to attack. I am certain that I will finally fulfill my programming."
―PROXY to Starkiller during the Mission to Raxus Prime.[src]

See, maybe in Christian morality...in Star Wars its:
   Fear-> Anger->Hate->Suffering
Well, all that and Sith are power hungry.  Anti-Deceit is a Christian value that Lucas didn't give the Jedi.

I agree.  Lucas made the Jedi believe many quite preposterous things.

Example: Star Wars III Mustafar

Obi-Wan: Anakin, my allegiance is to the Republic.  To democracy!
Anakin: If you're not with me, then you're my enemy!
Obi-Wan: Only a sith deals in absolutes. I will do what I must.

Example 2: Star Wars III Mustafar

Obi-Wan: I have failed you, Anakin.  I have failed you.
Anakin: I should've known the Jedi were plotting to take over!
Obi-Wan: Anakin, Chancellor Palpatine is evil!
Anakin: From my point of view the Jedi are evil!
Obi-Wan: Well then you are lost!

That just made me snicker.

If only sith deals in absolutes then how could obi-wan call Anakin lost? :-p

HM....

Jedi = Absolutely Condeming all Sith for their use of the dark side..

And if only Sith deal in absolutes.... All Jedi are just Holier than thou Sith O_o;.

The real irony of that statement is that Obi-Wan used a blaster to kill General Grievious.

You missed the point. General Grevious had "ancient weapons" and had been trained in "hokey religions" (as had his many Jedi victims), but he was killed by a blaster and a quick anatomy lesson.

The fact that Han Solo said his quote to a Jedi and his apprentice was not only funny, but ironic because the Jedi was the one who used the blaster in the above scenario.

Yeah, that has long rankled me, but remember, at least it seems, the Flanneled One is a liberal!
Just to start, I call attention to the horrible sight of Greedo shooting first. Ah! Disgusting!

Years before the Phantom Menace, actually. Lucas gave the writers the freedom to write anything they wished regarding the post-Star Wars universe, as long as they left the ante bellum astrum (yeah, I just did that) to Lucas.

I have a Star Wars book from 1979, I'm pretty sure is the year.  The name eludes me at the moment.  It is okay at best, but I kept it because it was written before the "Big Reveal" in Empire Strikes Back.  It was a fun to read for that fact alone.  The books, comics, and games have come to be known as the "Extended Universe".  It really launched and became popular with Timothy Zahn's "Thrawn Trilogy."  Zahn was an exceptional writer and added several great characters and an awesome species (the noghri).  Everything must be approved by Lucas and all the writers communicate with each other so nothing is out of order in the Extended Universe.
Of course, Lucas has changed his mind a few times and had characters killed off in the books.  The most obvious is Han and Leia's youngest son Anakin Skywalker Solo.  He figured that when the new movies came out that it would be too confusing to have 2 Anakins out and about.  At least, that is how the story goes, so Anakin Solo was given a glorified death in the next book.
*Special Note about a board member*  Tsavong Lah on the board is actually a Star Wars name from one of the books.  He is a warmaster of the Yuuzhan Vong during the New Republic era.

I hope this helps Britta!   :kenobi:
