I want to play, but I don't know what to do.

Go to NFL.com and create a login if you don't have one already.  In the Fantasy section look for our league name, Redemption NFL Fans.  Then enter the password, aocpromo, to join.

The Yahoo league is up and running.  There is a 20 team max.

Once at least 10 players join, we will discuss when we want the draft to happen.  I think we should wait until after nationals, but that is just my opinion.

ID# 260874
Password: redemption

A number of players last year expressed interest in reducing the roster size.  Last year, we had QB, WR, WR, WR, RB, RB, TE, WR/RB, K, DEF, 8 Bench spots.

I propose we drop a starting WR and drop 1-2 bench spots, thereby leaving room for 1 backup in each position or 1 backup in each position + 1 extra of any other position.

Please let me know your thoughts.  I am open to changing other settings if players express interest.  However, in my opinion, we have a great scoring system.

Looking forward to a great season!

Kirk

Thanks, Kirk!

I'm open to whatever roster set up the others would like.  I enjoyed last year and look forward to this year.  I also considered doing the draft after Nats but felt that the 15th was soon enough before Nats.

The Yahoo one still has up to 14 spots left.  You were in it last year, so you should have received a reminder e-mail about signing up for it.

Yeah, I got that. When is the draft for that one? And the NFL.com one is full, yes?
Title: Re: OFFICIAL 2009 Redemption Fantasy Football Leagues THREAD!
Post by: Captain Kirk on July 15, 2009, 03:01:54 PM
The NFL one is full, I believe, unless Scott's numbers on the first post are not accurately reflecting the count.  We haven't set a draft date for the Yahoo one.  Once 10 people join we will vote on a time.  I plan to set the draft after nationals.

Yes, the NFL.com one is full.  Hopefully, Lozo will have one set up for ESPN.  I also heard during the All-Star game that Fox Sports supposedly has an upgraded fantasy football.  I will probably join some public league there to get a feel for how it works.

Question on The NFL draft STAMP,

If I'm not there at 9:15, but I show up at say 9:20 can I take over from the Auto-Draft set up?

Just curious because I have to work and might not make it back in time.

Thanks,

RDT
Title: Re: OFFICIAL 2009 Redemption Fantasy Football Leagues THREAD!
Post by: STAMP on July 15, 2009, 07:49:31 PM
Good question.  You can turn your "autopilot" on and off during the draft.  When the autopilot is on, then your team will draft the highest available pick.  You turn autopilot off to manually make your choice.  So when you log in, if it's 9:20, just turn your autopilot off.

My schedule for the coming week or so is thrown into the air as my dad's father passed away on Tues night.  I will be gone to the funeral in Memphis in the coming days.  With traveling, I don't know when the best time to schedule the draft is.  However, I believe Thurs the 20th would be a good day.  Does that work for everyone at 9 pm EST?

Sorry to hear that, Kirk.  Will continue to pray that your family is comforted.

Thursdays between 8:00-11:00 Eastern are bad for me (church stuff), but I'm fine just doing an autodraft or having my brother draft for me if it looks good for everyone else.

Kirk, go ahead and set up a date and time that is conducive to your schedule.  Like sk, I'll pre-set my rankings just in case I can't make the live draft.

Also, I'll update the top of the thread with teh ESPN league info.

Use the 80/80 rule: 80% of the player base will generate at least 80% of prior year statistics, not including injured players or rookies.

Your job is to figure out the other 20/20.

My main job is to figure out who will not get hurt, seeing as that my top 3 picks (read people I heard of) all got hurt last year which in turn crippled my chances.   :D

By drafting later there will be less player surprises.  In past years, there have been surprise retirements, suspensions, and depth chart changes that can frustrate a fantasy draft.  Some people like to draft early to add that extra element of surprise to the mix.  Others like to leave as little to chance and draft closer to the start of the season.  I will wait for some more votes before I set it as such.

Mondays look better for me.  I'm probably *supposed* to be listening to a lecture about that time, as it's the first day of classes, but those introduction classes are boring and there is WiFi on campus :)  I can always auto-draft if the class goes long enough to interfere, but I doubt it will.

One more in for the Yahoo.  Which, of course, means one heck of an unbalanced schedule, but hey, Redemption players are all used to unbalanced conditions (real or perceived), right?

BTW, since I'm fairly new, I guess I oughtta introduce myself a bit.  I live in PA, got introduced to Redemption at Creation '08 - actually won a small closed deck tourney my first time playing.  Been playing informally and increasing my collection since then.  Right now, I'm rocking a Genesis/modified Sadducees deck. As to fantasy football cred, I've commissioned my own league on ESPN since 2006, played four leagues in 2007 (won one), played three in 2008 (won another).  My favorite teams are the Steelers and the Giants.  Can't think of anything else relevant right now, other than to say I'm looking forward to getting involved with this great community.

Well, the draft was a lot of fun!  However, I don't think I drafted that well.  The bye weeks that were listed for the players kind of threw me off my groove.  I had certain players in mind but ended up taking others so that I wouldn't have them all on the same bye week.

In the end I probably should have just taken the players I wanted and sacrifice one loss when they were all on the same bye week.

Hopefully my prize rookies, Greene and Nicks, will pay off like DeSean Jackson did for me last year!   :)

Well if Adrian Peterson plans on getting a lot more 76(?) yard TDs on the first posession Soul Saver is in very good shape.  ;D

Does anyone know how Brees has been doing in the pre-season? I haven't watched any Saints games.

Alright guys, I forgot to run this poll sooner.

I know that most of you are in favor of having divisions, with the league housing 20 teams.  However, I need your votes.  I will have to make this change on Thurs in the day at some point.  There are 8 teams that will make the playoffs, so with so many teams, it makes sense to run divisions to have just the top teams in the divisions make the playoffs.

A. No Divisions
B. 2 Divisions
C. 3 Divisions
D. 4 Divisions

I probably should drop out now.  I found my mistake on why I didn't get any of the players that I wanted including 1st and foremost Adrian Peterson.  I'm so angry at myself on multiple levels.  When I was putting together my pre-draft list, I was actually putting them in the box of "don't draft these players."  I don't know why I even bother sometimes....why would they even have that as an option!?!  Why make it the box on the left?  I should have just left everything alone and I would have ended up better then I am.  Well, I just had to tell you guys, at least you will get a free win at my expense.

So, when exactly did the steelers become a passing team?
I thought that Willie Parker was a decent pick-up for a number 2/3 back but he did nothing tonight....

For that matter Chris Johnson did very little too.... I didn't expect a lot because of pits D but still.....

Brees, Peterson and Philly were just unconscious this week!

Overall, I am pretty satisfied with my team's performance.  Nobody put up insane numbers, but then no one was awful either.  I think my entire lineup got within 1-2 points of their projected output.  I even had Crayton (20) and Williams (11.8) on the bench and still finished with 95.76 points.

Obviously my big concern is McNabb.  Ouch!  I'm really glad I picked up Schaub later in the draft.

Because Minnesota is a run first team, when you have the best player in the game (AP) you don't just sit there and throw bombs all day so that Favre can prove he still has it, you do what you do best. Run.

It's like last year never ended!  I win the lopsided matches but lose the close ones.  And some teams have career days when they play my team.  Point in question: in one other league I am 0-2 but I have the 2ND MOST POINTS!!  And 3rd's not even close to this point.  I lost 132-129 and 144-139.  There's only 4 other teams that have scored over 100 points for either week!!!!   :o

Back to the blowouts: I beat my opponent in an NFL.com league, 148-79.  My lineup: Schaub, Chris Johnson, DeAngelo Williams, Vincent Jackson, R Moss, R Williams, Cooley, Kris Brown, and Jets defense.  I'm looking forward to breaking my record for most points in a week!   ;)

I don't count the Facebook leagues I'm in.  It has a very odd fantasy system, especially the scoring.  I thought I would try it since we didn't get the ESPN league off the ground, but I've had enough after two weeks that I decided "never again".  I won't even monitor those leagues anymore.

Thanks to M&K Raiders' magnificent week I am now 13 for 14 in the leagues that count.  :)

It was a rough week (in more ways than one).  One commissioner dropped a league I was in and Gore was injured.  I still finished the week 5-1-1, and am pretty much "king of the hill":

Leagues  W-L-T   Pts
NFL 1   2-0-1   305 (1st)
NFL 2   3-0   342 (1st)
Yahoo 1   2-1   321.74 (1st)
Yahoo 2   3-0   272.68 (1st)
Yahoo 3   2-1   269.60 (4th)
Yahoo 4   1st place   610.88 (1st)  - pts only league that includes individual defenders
Foxsports   3-0   295.6 (2nd)

I have a tenuous lead in both Redemption leagues going into Monday night's game.  I won easily in all my other leagues.  In one of the Yahoo leagues the SF defense single-handedly mauled my opponent to the tune of 39 points!  That's like 1985 Bears-type defense.  Oh wait, that's right, the 49ers are coached by the 1985 Bears defense leader!!

If not for....no, I won't go there.   ;)

They will not email it too me...they want me confirm personal information that I didn't give correct answers to like:
    my zip code
my birthday  (this site doesn't have my birthday either--I have a special theory about my birthdays and who should know it.)

Without these two bits of information they will not let me change my password or email it to me (which I think is dumb)

You are quite welcome, I'm pretty sure this is one of my worst fantasy years ever. Literally ever. I was feeling fairly confident about my teams, until they started getting destroyed, and players stopped showing up. Clinton Portis? no show. And don't even get me started on Willie Parker. Then of course the whole Rodgers V Favre problem. Chris Johnson hasn't been the TD machine he was last year either. and a week after T.J. Howdayaspellit goes nuts, he only catches two passes for 20 yards... all in all a very frustrating year.

This is why I hate Fantasy Football

Week 7 My opponent has a qb that is projected to pull in 14 points.  How many does he actually pull in...?  40

In week 4 my oppnent and I were soo close it came down to a monday night football showdown.  I had Donald Driver, he had Bernard Berrian..  Guess who won?
You guessed it, Berrian Nearly doubled his projected stats while Donald Driver only got 5 out of a projected 9 points.

My third Loss was in week 2. I played Brady and my opponent played The powerhouse qb Byron Leftwich.  Brady gets 6 points adn Leftwich gets 2.5 times his projectd 10 points.

It seems it takes a Superhuman effort on the part of underperforming players to beat me.  I am just sick of being the victim of someone elses "carreer day"

Alright Stamp:  how bad did you beat me?

49ers 135.46
Soul Seekers Scrubs 92.34

Tony romo and Chad "ochocinco" Johnson did real well for you (33 for romo and 23 pts for chad) But you had 2 byes including yoru defense (broncos on a bye really hurt you)

And Stamp had to use three "career days" by players to beat you. Desean Jackson projected to pull in 9 points for Stamp acutally pulled in 25 pts, Vernon davis was suppose to only bring in 6 pts and he brought in 27 and Ricky williams was projected to be 9 points and he brought in 27

So you were tripple teamed while 2 of your players were on byes.  not a bad showing though given the circumstances

It's actually a lot of luck.   :)

But I would have to put Romo's and 85's day in the "career" category, too.   ;)

In retrospect, this was the week from H-E-double hockey stick for me.

So why is it possibly the worst week I could have?  I lost to Da Raiders! in the NFL.com league.  I work with Dan Barry.  He's a Raiders fan.  No, let me rephrase that: he's a very obnoxious, drops-by-my-cube-hourly-to-tell-me-how-bad-the-49ers-are type of Raider fan.  He has the win to hold over my head the WHOLE year.  At least our team beat his in the recent moonlight golf tournament that our company held.  Otherwise, I'd probably quit!

Another very good week for all my teams (with a little luck): 6-1.  Funny thing is the one loss came in the Redemption NFL.com league where all of a sudden I have a two-game losing streak.  :o  Turner helped me out last night to make up for a bad week by Schaub allowing me to nip crustpope by a field goal in the Redemption Yahoo league.  My teams are dominating in all the other leagues.  Here's the lineup I have for my 8-0 Foxsports league:

Starters
Brees
Jones-Drew
Cadillac Williams
Jennings
Ochocinco
Nicks
Vernon Davis
Rackers
Philadelphia

Bench
Rivers
Maroney
Greene
Sims-Walker
Burleson

The Containers got the win, 67.68 - 50.54.  Had you been able to put Vincent Jackson in to replace Ochocinco's bye week (16.3 pts), and used the stronger Zach Miller on TE (5.2 v 1.9), you would have won.

I was surprised that Brees slid to the 2nd round.  It was a no-brainer selection for me.  Here was my draft:

Medford 49ers
1 - 8  (8)  Maurice Jones-Drew (RB) JAC
2 - 3  (15)  Drew Brees (QB) NO
3 - 8  (32)  Philip Rivers (QB) SD
4 - 3  (39)  Anthony Gonzalez (WR) IND
5 - 8  (56)  Jonathan Stewart (RB) CAR
6 - 3  (63)  Chad Ochocinco (WR) CIN
7 - 8  (80)  Eddie Royal (WR) DEN
8 - 3  (87)  Jeremy Maclin (WR) PHI
9 - 8  (104)  Chester Taylor (RB) MIN
10 - 3  (111)  Dustin Keller (TE) NYJ
11 - 8  (128)  Philadelphia (DST)
12 - 3  (135)  Robbie Gould (K) CHI

Obviously, I made a couple of key free agent pickups and trades.  I'm still a little weak at RB, though.

Turner helped me out last night to make up for a bad week by Schaub allowing me to nip crustpope by a field goal in the Redemption Yahoo league.  Rivers

It's Warner who kept me from a 7-0 week!  But I'm satisfied with 6-1.  Here were the scores from my leagues:

159.36, 156, 144, 110.78, 108.74, 101.2, 80.40

A lot of my players continue to stay hot, but it only takes an injury to bring it all tumbling down...you know, like the 49ers and Giants, LOL!!

I am able to make changes that you request ahead of Sunday at 1 pm EST.  Even if I don't see it right away, if I have the e-mail record proving it was changed in time I can change it in the past.  I haven't kept up with the forums this semester, so I had no idea that you were locked out of your account.  You should have e-mailed me and should have done so the first week and you could have provided competition these weeks.  As it is, some people got fortunate with the scheduling and easier wins.  Let me know.

I'm looking to make a number of trades still guys, send me e-mails and offers...

Another 6-1 week, but this time around the one loss was suffered by my last undefeated team.  It was laughable, too.  I had a 9-7 roster advantage because my opponent forgot to substitute for Jacobs and NYG defense.  Brees had pedestrian numbers against St. Louis.  Jones-Drew did his kneel job.  Burleson pulls a no-show for Seattle, as well as Vernon Davis for SF.  In the end, his 7 guys beat my 9 guys 89.9-61.0.   :o

Yeah I also picked up Ricky Williams in that league... he was already putting up substantial numbers.

RDT, me too! My opponent had two recievers (one being Randy Moss) that caught for over 100 yards and 2 TDs. I still almost won, but I mean it's hard to beat that.

I didn't trade away AP, I traded for him.  And I would never rule out trading away any player for adequate value.  Until Ronnie's injury, it was a great trade as he had no 2nd RB and needed a #2 WR.  So LT and Ronnie Brown + Mason worked well.

My team had quite the showing in my ESPN league. On that note, ESPN runs a smoother and more awesome league I find, maybe we can do one of those next year? I like it SOOOOO much more.

Favre -- 4 Touchdowns
Ricky Williams -- Over 100 yards and 3 TDs (one reception TD)
Greg Jennings -- Over 100 yards and a TD

Those three players' stats alone are beating my opponent.  ;D

Another 6-1 week.  This time around Sean's NFL.com team spanked mine to drop me to 2nd best overall record in that league.  Sean's team is on a 6 game win streak to lead the league now at 8-3.  Bravo!  I dropped to 7-3-1.  But I'm 10-1 in three leagues, 9-2 in two others, and lead the points-based league.

This week should be fun for my ESPN league. Favre and Peterson are against Chicago, R. Williams is against the Bills, and Jennings and Driver are against the Lions. This is gonna be great. Also, T.O., who is making his comeback, is against the Dolphins who have the 4th highest points allowed so far this year. Good times... :D

Wow this should be an interesting finish to the regular season.  So many teams are fighting for playoff seeding and it will get really messy with this next week's worth of games.  Steelers and Winnipeg can also both lose their division titles if the cards fall a certain way.  A couple 7-6 teams might miss the playoffs by a few mere points!  Oh the intrigue!

I don't know.  I have a shaky team right now.  The Turner situation has weakened me because Mike Smith wanted to start him but really shouldn't have.  My QBs are rather average right now, mostly due to matchups.  Fitzgerald becomes a no-show when Leinart is in.  DeSean has a concussion although I have Avant as a backup.  With Eli ailing I'm not sure how many points Nicks will get me each week.

Bottom line: I can be beat.  M&K Raiders proved that in week 2.

In other leagues it has been a tough week.  I have one loss for sure and another is likely for one of my 10-1 teams.  A third loss could occur if Brady is unconscious tonight and Brees is awful.  I blame coaching.

Yeah, I thought that Mike wasn't going to play him, so I made the mistake of playing Snelling, who had a beast of a game against the Giants, you would have thought he would have a great game againts the Bucs too.... But no, worst fantasy decision of my life - undoubtably cost me my game this week.

Well, thanks to a very un-Brady-like evening I ended up being 6-1 for the week.  All my 10-1 teams survived to go 11-1.  I am a bit nervous in the points league.  I've seen my 200+ point lead dwindle to 76.   :-\

Here is a little synopsis of Kirk's fantasy season so far in 3 leagues...

After starting the year 3-6 in this league and 1-5 in my dynasty league (in which I have never had more than 5 losses in 5 years, placing in the top 4 each year), I have rebounded with 3 straight wins in this league and 6 straight wins in my dynasty league. Now I hold a playoff berth in both leagues and it is only mine to lose.  In my third league, I missed the draft and had to work with what I received.  As a result I am 7-5 and holding onto the last playoff spot in that league.  However, in the final week of the regular season in that league, I play a 6-6 team who has over 100 more points than I who will knock me out of the playoffs if he beats me.  Nothing like a one-game playoff!

Be prepared for the defending champ to make his presence known in the playoffs.  8)

First of all, who would pick that line up?

and second of all is that not totally insane or what?

Soul Seekers Scrubs - Total Week Pts: 142.08
JBU Golden Eagles - Total Week Pts: 66.50

To be fair, the Commish still has Aaron Rogers left to play...so there is hope...If Rogers can score 76 points!

My jaw hit the floor when I saw that score in the afternoon.   :o

If I'm Kirk, I'm thinking it was probably the most favorable matchup I could have headed into the playoffs.  But...on any given Sunday!  That's why I said before that my team can be beat.  Even though I'm a 15-yard pass from being 13-0, it only takes an injury (I have two) or bad matchups (2 or 3 possible in two weeks) and I become toast.  Take last year.  I was the hottest team going into the playoffs.  Gabe gave me an early exit in the first round.

And by the way, the only reason I am 12-1 is due most in part to Ray Rice and Vernon Davis.  Schaub played above his draft status the first half of the season, too.  And I was fortunate that most of my top draft picks performed as planned.  I really felt bad when soul seekers couldn't manage his team because it really makes a difference sometimes.  I was also helped this year by picking up some free agents at just the right time (Snelling/Olsen) and adjusted my lineup accordingly.

I think we'll have a fun playoffs!   :)

Playoffs this week in the Redemption Yahoo League, and like true NFL fashion, the championship game participants from last year failed to make the playoffs this year.   :o  It's like the Madden Curse or something.  In any case, I look at the teams and see the possibility of anyone winning.

In the Redemption NFL.com league, Deadliest Warriors and I have qualified for the playoffs that start next week.  The other two slots are up for grabs between Fireboy, Lightning Hokages, and Halo Recon.  All five teams are pretty equal in strength so this championship can go to anyone, too.

In other leagues, my 12-1 Foxsports team has a bye for the first week of playoffs.  (BTW, the league ID is 1337, )  I am limping into the playoffs in the 20-team Yahoo league at 9-4.  In the 12-team Yahoo public league, we have one more week before playoffs but this week seems to be a warmup of sorts as the #1-#4 seeds all play each other.  #3 and #4 could change but if they don't it will seem like the group stages of World Cup soccer.

In my other NFL.com league, which by the way I was invited to join by the Sheriff's office here in Medford, I am 12-1 and showing no mercy.  If I take the championship in this league I may begin to see a lot of patrol cars following me next year.   :D

First, there is generally a small red cross icon next to the player's name, whether you are on your team page or on the free agent page.  Second, there is a Injury Report selection on the Players drop down menu from the league home page.

STAMP, You're the comisioner for the NFL League correct? If thats the case, I don't feel like I really deserve my playoff spot, I have the same record as LightningNinja, and It appears that the first Tie-Breaker is Points earned, however I feel that since Ninja beat me, not once, but twice during the regular season, he really should be in my spot. Ahh, the vagaries of fantasy football.   :-\

Six out of six teams in the semis (one league is points based).  My two 13-1 teams crashed and burned in a huge fiery heap.  (Yeah, yeah, yeah, I still have some players from Monday night to go, but too much ground to make up.)  My 12-1 team that had the bye just may squeak into the championship game.  My 10-3-1 NFL.com team also looks to go into the championship game.  Of the two remaining I knew one team was really a bunch of overachievers anyway and likely will fizzle after Monday night.  The final one is in question because I still have four pending players.  Odds are I go 2-6 in the semis.  Epic fail.  Almost feels like the Cowboys this decade.

Correction, I would have been the 5th seed, based on a 7-6 record with way more points scored than the rest of the other 7-6 squads...

For what its worth, I would be in the championship game at this point.  As the 5th seed, I would have pasted Orange Demons and would have had a 48 point lead over 49ers with Fred Davis to go.

Congrats on ruining my chances to defend my championship Jonathan...  ::)  If I score more points than either of the teams in the championship next week.....

I believe your hopes are tied to Caldwell's willingness to let Peyton and Dallas play the whole game.   ;)

On a side note, it seems I am much better at fantasy baseball than fantasy football.  Because NYG won in a rout with Eli and the defense playing so well, my 12-1 team bit the dust by a couple of points.  So I ended up only getting one out of six teams into a championship game.   :-\  But that's no reason to hang my head in shame.  It is, however, quite embarrassing to lose to a girl...TWO WEEKS IN A ROW!!   :D   Yeah, in one league I was 9-3, in first, and playing the only girl in the league in the final week.  She kicked my gluteous maximus.  Then I draw her for the semis and she barely holds me off for the second win.  OUCH!!  Of course, now that I think about it the only baseball league in which I lost this summer a girl was the champion and beat me in the semis.

I'm such a gentleman!  :rollin:

Well, that'll do it.  Congrats, Stamp!

Just another game that shows how crazy fantasy football can be, especially at the end of the season.  Not counting the two RBs, sk had me beat 94-64.  My RBs outscored sk's 42-0.  Are you kidding me?!?  Even if I had AP and CJ2K I wouldn't think that I could make up 30 points.  And it's not that sk's RBs were injured.  Both played!  (Although very badly.)

In any case, I feel like I backed into the only championship I won.  Overall, I finished with one 1st, three 3rds, and two 4ths.  (Some leagues do not have 3rd place games, but based on results I would have won.)  There is one final week left in the points-based league and I currently lead by a measly 27 points.  Funny thing, at the beginning of the season one gold and three bronze would have been a lofty goal.  But looking back it seems more of a "what might have been."   :-\

It will be interesting to see if the Colts and Saints end up with the same feeling.   :D

And only one championship to show for it.    :-\

Whoa, I'm the Indianapolis Colts!

Congradulations to the Fallmouth Floggers who flogged me once again because I played the wrong people.  Thanks and congrats!

Thanks a bunch!  I'll have to say, I was pretty surprised to do so well in that big of a league - most I've done before is ten, I think.  Can't wait for next year to defend my title!

Congratulations to Falmouth on a job well done. Such a large league makes it very difficult.  I played in a 20 team league before, but most people never play in any this big.

However, I will look to dethrone you next year.  Prior to this year, I had gone 3rd, 2nd, 1st, in the league, so I'll be gunning for you.  8)
