Title: not sure what to buy
Post by: jtay on February 09, 2009, 02:21:46 AM
I haven't picked up my cards in a while, and I figure a good way to get back into the game would be to buy some new cards.  I should probably pick up a FooF or RoA tin, since I don't have anything from those sets yet.

So here's where I need your help.  I have no intentions of using strategies like civilizations, Genesis, musicians, etc.  That's not how I roll; I try my best to build decks that are as far from the norm as possible.  Which tin(s) from FooF/RoA have the fewest strategy-specific cards?  I would probably prefer a RoA tin, since, if I remember correctly, they contain a Priests pack whereas the FooF tins don't (if I'm wrong about that, then I guess it doesn't really matter to me which kind of tin I get).

I'm just trying to save myself the trouble of reading ~200 card abilities, so if you could help me out, I would greatly appreciate it.

they're all about civilizations. ALL of the RoA and FooF tins. it's unavoidable now. you could try panic demon, or random banding (something that was very effective in type 2, as I found out). otherwise, good luck, it's all themes. Z's Temple, Musicians, Genesis, Warrior's (deck discard), Angels (more discard?), Prophets... I suppose nobody uses daniel heroes.

RoA contain a patriarchs pack, FooF contain kings pack. they both contain: Unlimited, Prophets, Apostles, Priests.

Jay, first off welcome back.

Secondly, can you give us an example of cards you have used in decks past? Might give us an idea what new cards might perk your interest. Cheers!

If there's any cards with mildly obscure abilities in RoA/FooF, they would probably be of the most interest to me.  Here's some of the cards/combos that I have most enjoyed in the past.  (Note: some of these were complete failures, but hey, I still had fun :) )

Winds+Chamber
Abel's Sacrifice
Visions of Iddo the Seer
Covenant Keepers

Plagued with Diseases+Face of Death
All Hope Lost+Fear of Danger+Judah's Sin+etc.
Strength Revealed (too bad I never got this one to work for the purpose I planned)
Great Image
Wages of Sin
All side battle cards
Lamentation of Rachel
Shimei's Malicious Curse+Shimei
Destruction of Athaliah (I almost scared someone with this once, hehe)
Treachery Afoot+None that Breathed+Carried into Exile (I think I'll try this one again sometime)

And there's a bunch of other cards I've been dying to find a use for, like Invisible Beings/Ambush, Useless Tactics, Royal Protection, etc.

Hooray for weird cards!

looks like you need to train an Ehud, have him steal Adino's spear, then play Sammy's Sac.

Well, if nobody's got any more info, could someone provide a link to a file that can tell me which cards are in which RoA tins?

The Garden Tomb is fun. I'd recommend that tin. The defense is pretty awesome too.

And I found a use for Ambush, and also for Swift being if it can set aside a human. Yeah, it's an instant ls and there's nothing they can do.  :D
