Hi. I'm new to these boards. I have some questions. I would like to know what I shouldn't do on here, who likes to argue, who likes chess, what are those stars for, and how can you get your own picture on here. Thanks! Ottoman.

What you shouldn't do: Make pointless, derogatory, offensive, or Swahili posts. Unless they're funny.
Who likes to argue: Far too many of us.
Who likes chess: A surprising amount. There's been some recent talk, and a Chess feature was recently added to the boards. I haven't closely followed the chess talk, but I believe NotOfThisWorld and Egyptian enjoy games.
What those stars are for: They represent how many posts you have (unless they're big shiny stars, in which case they indicate a moderator/administrator). Don't worry about making a lot of posts just to get more stars. You'll be much more respected for fewer thoughtful posts than a lot of pointless posts.
How you can get your own picture: Click the "Profile" button on top and go to the Forum Profile Information section. There you can choose a predefined avatar, or link to one you've uploaded elsewhere (like on PhotoBucket).
Give you tips: Don't eat the gazpacho.

You can also pick a picture from some of the card art available in the profile settings. Just go to Profile -> Forum Profile Information and you can select first the expansion, then the image.

What you shouldn't do here: Post something that doesn't really add anything to the discussion. Curse. Talk about rated R movies or rated M games. Necroposting is generally looked down on, but if you add something significant, it's ok.
Who likes to argue: The person who seems to enjoy inciting arguments most is Colin, and the person who is most often the sucker who lets himself get dragged into them is me. The person to avoid arguing with at almost all costs is Schaef. And yes, I would consider both Colin and Schaef friends :)
Who likes chess: This is a new feature, but if you just click the button at the top of the screen (between "calendar" and "members", you'll find what you're looking for.
What are the stars for: Absolutely nothing. Technically they are for number of posts, but should really just be ignored.
How do you get your own picture on here: Answered already.

I think you are forgetting someone... *shuffles feet* Yes, I love to debate formally, but I try my best to choose my battles and avoid flame wars. If you love to debate, then PM me and we shall chat.
In regards to what you should not do here, I agree with Prof Underwood. Do your best to be civil because no matter how much division there is in our various political views, we are all ultimately striving to glorify God in the end. If what you post is unkind or ultimately ungodly, then I would beg that you do not post your comment. However, anything else is fair game and encouraged on these boards.
With that said, welcome to these boards.

Welcome. Go check out the sticked RTS and Hamchi threads in "online play" to get playing all of us and improving your game.
Don't: make unsupported or unrelated comments like "Jesus loves us all" when there is a really good debate going on. ;D

What are the stars for: How many accounts each of us have successfully hacked. If you see a "guest" posting, that means one of us (probably a ninja ::)) successfully hacked their late account. Basically, you get respect and street cred the more stars you get. If you hack someone twice (they make another account and you destroy that one too), you get to be either an administrator or a moderator. "Cactus Rob" is not Rob Anderson like most people think, it's actually someone who hacked the same person 10 times. Needless to say, he got the highest title of "Cactus Rob."
How to get your own picture: Be original. Don't get one. ;)

Anything that you can't make into a clever joke to get away with. Necroposting I don't mind too much. From my own perspective, don't assume that your truths are the truths of everyone else on this board, because they aren't. There is a lot of corrupt beliefs on these boards, which is mainly my doing. Also, Shaef gets mad if you talk about cheese (which again, is my doing).

They represent the descendants of Abraham: Mohammad, Jesus, Seinfeld, Einstein etc. (Just kidding. I'm sure someone else has hit on it).
P.S. Make sure you refer to "God" as YHVH, YHWH, or Yahweh when referring to the Jewish/Christian God, saving "God" for generic references, the Apostle's creed, and vain utterances. Certain people will be thrilled.

Welcome, Ottoman, to the boards. I am Britta, and one of the few females on this forum. I find it can be an enjoyable but sometimes not-so-pleasant place. But don't take my word for it; explore for yourself and form your opinion. I guess that would be my best advice: don't allow others to manipulate your opinions and beliefs, but carefully consider their thoughts and your own.
