Well hello there, and welcome to the insanity that is the redemption boards. Sadly, us female players are in short supply, but we are here nonetheless. Don't listen to all these crazy boys here, they're just...well, crazy. Anyways, welcome. We're glad you're here :)

so, while we're here, why are girl players so rare?
Speaking in gross generalities...
For pretty much the same reason that when I was growing up guys were the ones attracted to collecting baseball/football cards. Memorizing useless details[1], arguing over meaningless points[2], collecting colorful rectangles of cardboard[3], and squabbling over rules minutiae[4] is the kind of stuff that appeals predominantly to guys. Gals are--in general--much more practical than this.
[1] Who was the first NFL player to earn four Superbowl rings? Ted Hendricks.
[2] Who was the better middle linebacker in the 1960's, Butkus or Nitsche? Ray Nitsche.
[3] What about paint sample cards? The exception proves the rule. ;)
[4] What are the eight ways a batter can reach first base? Left as an exercise for the reader.
-
Butkus is the greatest player... ever! Him and Earl Campbell
Point taken, though
-
Earl Campbell and Barry Sanders are the two best RBs ever and they both left too soon. :'(

+1 Altough I don't know if I can say they are BETTER than Walter Peyton.... hm... ;)
-
You guys are just proving MJB's point. ::) However, I personally have never really been interested in petty facts and/or arguing over useless things.

My mom is a rabid fan of sports. She is the first one to get situated in front of the TV on Sunday afternoons. She is the one that keeps sending me Patriots and Red Sox clothes for my birthday and Christmas, just to make sure I don't forget my loyalties. You can ask her any obscure fact about Boston sports and get a quick answer.
My wife knows about sports, too. She resigned to learning about Boston-area teams in order to fit into conversations with my family. Living in southwest CT, where the fans are evenly split between Yankees and Red Sox fans, she quickly became familiar with names like Babe Ruth, Enos Slaughter, Carlton Fisk, Bucky Dent, Bill Buckner, and other names of lore. However, growing up in the Philadelphia area, she already knew names like Steve Carlton, Greg Luzinski, Mike Schmidt, and Ron Jaworski. She spews out stats about them at the weirdest times.

That's pretty much exactly what I've been doing. Watching and waiting. I do post here and there though :).

I do post here and there though
I knew this because I distinctly remember seeing Roger Federer's angry face every once in a while around the boards... haha.

Annabug, Welcome to the Redemption family here on the boards.
Godspeed,
