I have been working on album artwork for christian artist Mason Clover (masonclover.com) and I would like your input on this cover.
The image is a little big, so here is the link.

I'll post the other side when I'm finished with it.

Looks pretty good. The only thing I suggest is mabye move the record label name to the spine and/or back.
-
The picture looks artsy. Just looking at the cover I would imagine a band like most of the people on this forum seem to like. Rock with a lot of screaming. The picture also does look professional.
On the flip side, I don't really like artsy. I would prefer something more thought-provoking. For instance, Heaven is eternal, so I would prefer something like:

or perhaps like:

Of course, you'd have to get permission to use Escher's artwork, or create something of your own that was like that. But I don't really like screaming metal rock either. So if that's what the band plays, then perhaps your first idea would be better because guys like me are not your target audience.
P.S. I also agree that the record label doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the piece.

Wow, lol. He is far from screamo/rock. His music is ultra-contemporary.

In that case, I would be more likely to suggest the thought-provoking over the artsy.

I would go darker and with atheme. take some ideas from asi lay dying and impending doom they have amazing artwork

As I Lay Dying is the total opposite direction as far as sound.
However, I could see this working for this sound as well. I dont really see it being as much of heavy music as like, flames and crazy twisted words, etc...

Idk then...I listened to his music........................I'll go sob quietly in the fetal position in the corner now
-
Yea, the song on his website isn't that good. But I really like some of his newer music that will be in the new album.
-
It's good art, but I agree it doesn't fit with the theme. I don't know about anyone else, but old Bible pages and granite letters don't remind me of God's Kingdom. I would go with something lighter and more joyful, instead of this dark, gloomy, "The world is falling apart" theme.
-
I kinda agree that a name like that would have a little happier look to it.
You could always do something super cliche and like, have this big kingdom in the sky, giant beams of light coming off of it, clouds parting around it.... :D
-
Ok, do you guys think I should change the look, the name, or both?
-
name
-
Ok, any suggestions?
-
Shouldn't the name be up to the musician?
-
Yes, ultimately. Its my job to bring designs to him though.
-
Alice is dead (I've been listening to Alice in chains so hey :-X )
-
Umm, no.
-
Well, work with him on the name, and then once you both think the name truely fits the song material, go ahead and do the artwork.
*EDIT* Do you have an AIM name DRB? I know you were around here before, I just cant remember if you had AIM then.
-
hey lambo: Guns are sharper than knives ::)
-
Also, I know the guy who designed this album cover. It was for artist Brenda Wheeler. I thought it was pretty cool looking.

No I don't have AIM. Did you want to chat?
-
Yeah, It may be easier to help offer suggestions and bounce ideas on there.

Ok, any suggestions?
An album title is often the name of a song in that album. I don't know what songs are going to be in that album, though.

While this can be the case, I have plenty of examples where this isn't true. I actually like it when the name is something totally different, or a line in a song, rather than the title of a song.
Prime example: Black Clouds and Silver Linings. That phrase appears nowhere in the lyrics or song titles of that album.
-
Well I said often. ::) Still, the title of the album should have something to do with the music in it.

the album of destiny!
