Does anyone have any suggestions on what movie to see in theatres this month or next month?
Also has anyone seen Avatar and is it good?

Is this a trick question?

go to Avatar. a bit messed up, but amazing movie. it's not so bad that Christians should avoid it because of the world view. it's a fantastic movie.
on a side note, I heard Holmes was even better. and I've heard Princess and the Frog was good as well...
-
Robert Downey Jr. Is quite possibly the best actor with a fake british accent I've ever seen. Holmes was quite simply amazing.

No its a loadded question. :-[

I heard that holmes was very deamonic I probably wouldn't see it because of that. :-\
thank you for the suggestions but it seems that our film industry has yet again hit a low and has only made a couple of really good films. ::)

I've been curious how that movie turned out... good production quality? was it well acted?

The movie itself ultimately makes no suggestions one way or the other about demonic practices, except perhaps that they don't work. As a fellow Christian, trust me that that aspect of the movie is nothing to trifle about.

That's kind of what Sherlock Holmes is all about...exposing things that seem supernatural with logic. It reminded me a lot of Frank Peretti's book Hangman's Curse (it was a good book made into a so-so movie). It doesn't outright say that supernatural things are all fake (as we all know they're not) but rather that people too often use the fear and mystery associated with the supernatural for their own gain (which is true).
I'm not saying that you should see it if you have reservations, but I thought it was an excellent movie.

Avatar is incredible and definitely see it in 3D. It is very unique and I went twice. I have also heard Holmes is amazing, though I'm going to wait until dvd cause I'm poor. :P The Blind Side is also good, but a different genre than Holmes and Avatar.

I haven't seen Avatar, but I find it interesting that you went to that twice and Holmes zero times. Maybe Avatar is better, but there is no way that the second time of Avatar could be better than the first time of Holmes.
-
I know what you mean and I would normally agree...
I am not a fan of 3D at all, in fact, I normally refuse to see anything remotely 3D. So, the first time I saw Avatar, I saw it in 2D. Then, my friends were going to see it in 3D and I joined them. It is the only 3D movie I really enjoyed.
The fact is though, you can't see 3D at home (yet anyway, but whatever). I can see Homes at home in it's full glory. If I wanted to experience Avatar's revolutionary 3D, I had to go back to the theater.....

I saw it twice, once wasn't in 3D. but it was because of my family. once was with my cousins (who had heard Holmes was lame. ha.) and the other with my sister and aunt and friends.
-
Lol, I also went twice, first in 2D with my mom and then in 3D by myself because I heard it was amazing (which it certainly was).
-
This sounds so sad, but I want to go again... I really love the movie.
-
Lol! ...Me too, actually. :P

My suggestions: Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, Brothers, Crazy Heart, The Blind Side, Up In The Air, Precious, and Invictus. All of them are great films and should be watched by anyone old enough to see them.

Yes! I worked for that movie.

I'm sorry. My buddy and I are old school so the Holmes movie doesn't look like traditional Sherlock Holmes. The previews make it seem more like a Batman and Robin, circa London late 1800's. :-\

That's what the previews had me believing too. But they were very misleading, as most of the movie is a more traditional Holmes story. Even the action/fighting sequences are completely engineered by Holmes' logic, which makes it awesome. Trust me, it's worth it.

That was probably my favorite part of the movie.
I also loved the music.

The music was awesome. Hans Zimmer AND The Chieftans? Absolutely wonderful.

I was going to watch Avatar, but it was a lot cheaper to just watch Pocahontas again. Pre-JoBros Disney ftw.

Avatar is overrated. I was hoping Hurt Locker would win over it last weekend, finishing the hype off, but Cameron has better friends than his ex-wife. The film had cool images, yes, but the creatures weren't better than Jurassic Park or Narnia (just cleaner rendering), and the CGI people weren't even as good as Gollum. And, please, 3D that lets me see the areas not in focus? You know, the important part? Sigh.
And why, exactly, do the mountains float?

I was wondering if that was you, as I ran through the IMDB page when I discovered somebody I cast for a short was in the film as well. The trailers I've been seeing on hulu look great... hopeful that I can see the film itself before classes go crazy this week.

Yeah, the Golden Globes/HFPA never had much credibility to begin with. Here's to hoping the Academy knows better.

Ah! That drove me nuts too!

Oh, interesting; who did you cast? Anyway, I'm sort of in the same boat. I'm in Utah at the moment, and all the theaters are playing Sundance films exclusively, so I'm hoping to squeeze a viewing in next weekend after I get back but before I leave again for school.

The out-of-focus part of the screen changed the meaning of an epic Sci-Fi film by Ridley Scott. In a 3D world, Rick Deckard would foolishly be considered a human. :) I need the option to look for extra information if I want to.

Laura Black (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3095085/) (Pam Taylor in To Save a Life) was cast as the mother of a teen in Samuel Seventeen (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1379198/) (I DP'd, bro shot), but she later had to decline the part due to date conflict. Her husband (Trevor Black (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0002670/)) was cast as a teacher, as that part didn't conflict. Having both of them audition at the original casting left the names in my head, so it rung a bell when I saw the IMDB page.

I actually saw that movie twice yesterday (once by myself and once with my wife). It was a great movie and the second time I caught a couple of things I missed before. Everyone should go see it (especially if you're still in school).

Haha! Precisely. Luckily for us, there was likely no extra information contained within the frames of Avatar. :P

Aha, okay. We only filmed with her for a day or two, but she seemed nice.

Ah, so true...
By the way, have you seen any gems at Sundance?
-
Well, I've spent the past two days snowboarding. :P
Tomorrow through next Sunday are my movie spree days. I saw Please Give already, which was a premiere and was quite good, but other than that nothing yet.

To Save A Life has to be one of the best movies I have ever seen. Production quality was spectacular. It wasn't your typical cheesy Christian movie. The acting was really good considering that they weren't A-list names. Lots of tough issues dealt with in the film and the reality factor of the film was shocking at times. Our church has really gotten behind it and have bought over 700 tickets to give away in our community to see the film. Kudos to you Lah for being involved in that great movie!!!
