The thread called, "Let's go Colts", prompted me to post this article by Bill Simmons which is pretty objective in determining the rank (pun intended) of the worst sports franchises and/or cities:

Detroit is the most tortured city in sports when it comes to football
cause you gotta feel sorry for those lions who'v been in a 2 year slump starting with 0-16.
i mean i feel really sorry for them and i do think this year is the year for the lions to actually come out roaring.
all i have to say is GO LIONS!!!! :) :) :)

I only read the list, not the other long wordy criteria, but I have two comments:
1.) Glad to see the Cubs on top :).
2.) The Mets should be up there.
-
Yankees should definitely be up there. If everybody was smart, we'd have the greatest torture methods for their players ever.
-
i'd s thumb down 50 times for that comment wraith.
i hate the yankees GO RED SOX!!!!!
-
1). Cleveland
2). Everybody else

2.) The Mets should be up there.
He mentioned the Mets in the article. Basically, they are not far enough removed from the 1986 Championship, but once they are, they will qualify for the list.
-
It shouldn't matter if they won last year. They should be up there ;D

if you hate the yankees you should +1 my comment a million times.

1). Cleveland
2). Everybody else
Cleveland, and it's not even close.

I would say that the Cubs would definatly be the sports team that has been the most tortured. They haven't won in 7,000 years and the everytime they get close, something / someone does something to ruin it.
Cleveland has to be the most tortured city! The city hasn't won a championship in almost 40 years. They are also one of the only cities that has all 4 types of the major sports teams. So they have at least 4 different chances every year to win a championship and fall short every year.
-
I agree that the Cubs are the most tortured team and Cleveland is the most tortured city. The LeBron James thing just adds insult to injury (which is one of the article's main requirements).
-
I'm a cavs fan and now it's back to if we get into the playoffs, that means we won the championship.

Toronto. Every year, there's a "World" series, but no Canada!
-
It's definately the Cubs followed by Cleveland now. Note the article is pre-LeBye.
-
That's right sports fans, no matter what season it is we have a team that is playing (and crushing dreams, or raising hopes to crush them later {looking at you Cavs})
Also,
Cold weather and losing go together as easily as John Travolta and horrendous haircuts. You're already bitter about getting crushed, and then you wake up and it's 9 degrees outside, the skies are gray and you have to scrape ice off your windshield as your ears slowly freeze. It's almost like a background for your mood, no different than listening to Elliott Smith albums after a bad breakup.
Thank you.

Chicago Cubs have gone over 100 years with a, "we'll get them next year," attitude.
