Title: Merry Christmas doods. What did you get for Christmas?
Post by: Rawrlolsauce! on December 25, 2012, 04:05:07 AM
It's 3AM, but yolo. What did you get for Christmas? Be materialistic. Spending time with family doesn't count.

I just got this semesters grades back and somehow got an A in physics despite getting what I estimate to be 25% on the final. That's a pretty good gift. I also got a rocking blazer. I don't know how often I'll wear it, if I even wear it more than once, but it's pretty tight man.

How bout you?

A Stephon Gilmore jersey (which means he'll be cut or traded in the next 18 months keeping with the tradition of me getting sports jerseys)
Vinyl
Pants
Cologne
Candy.
And there is still a box in the mail from my grandparents that should have a check in it according to my mom as well as a few smaller gifts.

So, my haul would be

Candy
Half life 1 (bought by me)
Sonic screwdriver (11th) (bought by me)

and

The christmas tree from charlie brown.

What brought me the most joy though was seeing my little bro and sis open the gifts I got them and seeing their faces light up. I know, not materialistic but it is my first time being able to use my money to pay for christmas.

The premise of the movie Olive the Other Reindeer becomes quite terrible once you remember the rest of the song. Suddenly it wasn't all of the other reindeer making fun of Rudolph and not letting him play games, it was just Olive. Olive is a jerk and he gets his own movie.

Sweet! I got a set last year (just for no reason) but haven't thrown them yet. I meant to take them to the stables and throw them at hay stacks lol cause I always tried throwing the knives they cut the hay twine with at the stacks, so I wanted balanced ones. A couple months ago I threw one up And meant to catch it by the blade... Well, it landed point down in my hand.. The bleeding wasn't bad, it was mainly just deep. After that I stopped throwing tem up and attempting to catch them. I did this when I was on pain meds after my Surgery, go figure lol

They should edit the medical warnings to say "Do not operate heavy equipment or play with sharp things."

It doesn't work on deadlock seals and wood.

Well I have the 10th doctor's screwdriver so it emits (or would if the light was working, the batteries must be defective or something) a blue light (sadly it doesn't have a red setting.)

North By Northwest!!!! (I LOVE THIS MOVIE)
I'm always impressed when younger people can appreciate classic movies.  In the last 3 days I've watched 3 of them (It's a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, and Holiday Inn - all 3 in black & white).

Sonic screwdriver (11th)
Sonic Screwdriver
Sonia screwdriver (with a blue light
I had no idea that this was the hot item this year, but I've got to say that this is WAY cooler than any: Pet Rock / Cabbage Patch doll / Beany Baby / Tickle Me Elmo / Furbie / etc.

I wanted an iPhone for Christmas but got a Droid, it wasn't the Droid I was looking for.
OK, that one's going on the thread. (http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/off-topic/prof%27s-favorite-forum-quotes/msg497614/#msg497614) :)

I mainly like classic war movies though. Tora! Tora! Tora! And Kelly's Heroes are my two favorites.
Kelly's Heroes is pretty funny (Donald Sutherland's character especially with all those "negative vibes"), but if you love classic war movies, then you REALLY need to watch "The Great Escape" and "Bridge Over the River Kwai".  Those are probably the 2 best WWII movies ever.  I also liked the movie "Victory" (how often to do you get to watch Sylvester Stallone AND Pele in the same movie), but the first 2 are still the best.

I love 'The Great Escape'. Another great WW2 movie is the 'The Great Raid'. My family and I also totally love 'Hogan's Heroes'. If you haven't seen any of those, you've missed out. We have all 6 seasons.  :)

Mostly I got gift cards and cash, but the coolest presents were a hat that my sister-in-law crocheted, and a Ghana soccer jersey that she got during her mission trip there. All of my brother-in-laws got one of those as well. I also got a suit. But yeah, I'm kind of at the age where gift cards are the best, so that my wife and I can go out to eat or to a movie once in awhile, or have money for gas since we will have traveled nearly a thousand miles going to visit various family members by the end of the year.

Thank you friends. I am not sure how you married folks find time for Redemption!

My wife and I view our time and financial investment as a ministry to God's targeted group in our area (and beyond!). She said that God's work is our top priority. Passing out Redemption cards is spreading God's Word (literally).

That's just another one of the traits that make my wife so awesome. She loves God more than me. She is my prayer warrior and keeps me afloat.  ;D

That makes sense. I guess it depends on what type of ministries make the most sense to focus on where you are at. For me Redemption is currently seeming to be a less effective ministry than other avenues so it naturally follows that I view time as better spent elsewhere.

I plan to teach my wife, Emily, how to play at some point!

Thanks! Have you ever found it problematic in your relationship that you wake up to do something during the night while your wife is sleeping? I think you have told me you don't need much sleep though - so I imagine if it wasn't Redemption it would be another thing anyways.

You are right that I don't sleep much, and often I'm using those late night hours for things besides Redemption like grading papers or watching Dr. Who.  As for causing problems, it used to when she'd wake up and I wouldn't be there and in her half-asleep mind she'd be worried about whether I was OK.  But we've been used to it for a long time now, and actually it's currently really helping her out.  My youngest kid still struggles to get through the night without wetting the bed.  So when I stay up until the middle of the night, I am able to take him to the bathroom before coming to bed, and then he wakes up the next morning dry.  That saves my wife having to get up in the middle of the night because he's crying and wet.

I used to do grading after midnight as well. This is not problematic if your wife understands and trusts you. My wife understands because that is the only time it is quiet in my house with two young children. The trust factor is one that has to be earned over time, or re-earned if you did something to ruin it. A woman who has been burned in the past will need time and patience from her husband before she can sleep comfortably while he stays awake, especially if he is on the computer.
