well little fyi any airsoft gun under $75 new is crap (I was playing for a year but I quit and I just traded my $150 automatic airsoft gun for a psp + 5 games) if you want to really play airsoft like a military similarity thing then you need to spend a good $100+ on a shotgun $75+ for a pistol $150+ for a automatic and $300+ sniper rifle...I was playing with guys that were actually in the military and their hobby was airsoft...its fun stuff but expensive

I'm just sorta going for backyard fights with a bunch of friends and whatnot. I ain't gunna get my butt whooped by guys that were in the military haha

Shotguns aren't good.  I'd go with an auto rifle or a CO2 pistol.

If youre looking for a good shotgun, that doesnt cost alot, then I would recommend this:
http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=139_181&products_id=4799 (http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=139_181&products_id=4799)

I've had this shotgun for a year, It's really durable and has yet to break on me.
But, like everyone else has said, if you want to get into airsoft, you should get an AEG.

This is what i have

http://www.airsplat.com/Items/AR-AGM-VSR-001W.htm (http://www.airsplat.com/Items/AR-AGM-VSR-001W.htm)

I call her lurane. exept mine is black.

Have you upgraded it at all?
This is mine:
http://www.shortyusa.com/airsoft.html?http://www.shortyusa.com/cart/viewitem.html?II=868&UID=1270163599-71.109.166.4&CA=&RID= (http://www.shortyusa.com/airsoft.html?http://www.shortyusa.com/cart/viewitem.html?II=868&UID=1270163599-71.109.166.4&CA=&RID=)
(note: Do not buy from this site.)

I upgraded it with a systema tight bore barrel, a teflon mod and a scope.

If youre doing back yard wars, then that one is ok. I would still recommend this shotgun: http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=139_181&products_id=4799 (http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=139_181&products_id=4799)

It shoots pretty hard, so in backyard wars it would leave big welts, but its really accurate with a .2 BB and really reliable. Its about the same price and its a lot higher quality than that MP5.

It sounds awesome.. And you've had it for over a year?
Title: Re: Looking for a good airsoft gun..
Post by: Eric the Wolfe on April 01, 2010, 07:59:10 PM
Yah, I got it in February of 09 and still have it now. In the hands of a good player, it can compete with AEGs. I know people with that MP5 and the shot gun is much higher quality.

I had (past tense) one of those snipers you have with the mod but no tight bore then I had the TM VSR 10 fully upgraded and traded that for a seperate AEG then sold the AEG for a aftermath broxa AEG and then got a CO2 pistol and then traded the Aftermath for a PSP + games and I still have the pistol....anyone intrested???  ;D

I have a CO2 pistol WG Xtreme Full metal slide airsoft gun...I will go...$65 trade value

I might be interested in trading for it.  I have felt a tug in Wal-mart for years when I walk past the aisle that has the Airsoft stuff.  Maybe this is the way for me to try it out.  But I need to check first to see whether this is a good gun for a guy just starting.  I see it's a CO2, and other guns use "red gas" or "green gas", but I don't know what that means.  I see that this gun has a FPS of around 400, and other guns are more around 300, but I don't know what that means either.  I see that this gun is NOT solid metal, and other guns are, and I'm guessing that makes a difference.  Anyway, once I learn some more about this stuff, there's a decent chance that I'm interested :)
Title: Re: Looking for a good airsoft gun..
Post by: xCaLeBx on April 01, 2010, 11:36:04 PM
FPS: feet per second aka how fast the bullet goes goes (it also depends on bullet size (.12 (never EVER use those with this gun the will just turn into powder) .2 (they can become chipped while being shot out thus hindering how far and how accurate it is) .25 (better than .2 but there is a better level) .28 (better than .25 but still a better level for this gun) .3 (this is sometimes refferred to as light sniper ammo (snipers use .4 - .45) the .3 shoots straight and hasn't chipped on me yet. I haven't messed with the hop up pretty much at all so you'll need to adjust it to make it aim straighter

Co2/Green gas/red gas: CO2 being the most powerful and easily buyable at walmart/Green gas being the least wear on the gun/red being a higher power than CO2 but more wear and tear than CO2 or green gas (al these are from my personal experience wear and tear wise)

full metal vs semi metal: It really depends on who you talk to but it all boils down to internals and I bought this gun vs other $75 guns because of what some people have said about the niceness of how long it last and i haven't had any issues (I will say theres a little lip on the pistol grip that i decided to break of because it cut into my palm but it affects NOTHING about the usability and playability of the gun

hop up: this is usually a flat head screw that makes the inner barrel kinda angle up or down thus adjusting the bullet pathway you'll need to adjust this to get maximum accuracy

hope I've helped PM me about offers etc my trade thread: (ignore the last message for this trade)

Hey prof, where would you be airsofting at? Or would you just be shoting targets? Because depending on where youre playing, determines what kind of gun you should get. I usually play in fields, so a higher FPS is good for reaching far distances. But if youre playing at close range, a 400 FPS gun like Caleb's would not be the best choice, because it could hurt someone.

just thought you should know.

Eric

thus the .3s which take it to 300  to 350fps
Title: Re: Looking for a good airsoft gun..
Post by: Eric the Wolfe on April 02, 2010, 12:05:34 AM
but .3 are more expensive. It really depends on what your preference is.

@ Prof, Green gas is just propane mixed with silicone oil. You can buy the mini tanks of propane at target, then you get some silicone oil off the internet. But, you have to buy addapters to put on top of the propane tanks, so they can fill the mags of the gun.

That's a good thing for me to consider.  With my aim, I'd probably need to be at close range to hit anyone :)

but .3 are more expensive.
That's another good thing to consider.  I'd like to not have to spend too much to maintain this as a hobby.

CO2 being the most powerful and easily buyable at walmart
That sounds like the way to go, so that's good about you gun.

theres a little lip on the pistol grip that i decided to break of because it cut into my palm but it affects NOTHING about the usability and playability of the gun
That doesn't sound like a problem really.

This might be a problem.  I'm sure I could come up with $65 worth of cards to trade you.  But of the ones that you list yourself as needing, I think I could only find Holy Grail, Haman's Plot, and Benaniah (which of course doesn't add up to $65)

What do you mean by a gun that shoots airsoft shells? I have a shot gun that loads from a fake shell, but what gun shoots a shell? Can you give me an example?

Also, I would not buy from airsplat if I were you, they do not have good customer service and the products they have for cheap are not very good quality.

Hey, if you realy want a shot gun, go to www.airsplat.com (http://www.airsplat.com) all of their guns are pretty cheap. but if i where you, i would get a shotgun (i want one) that shoots airsoft shells, (they should be re-useable). but you don't have to buy one that shoots shells, another idea is buying one that loads three BB's in at once. and if anything, buy pistol-grip. considering it is a close range single shot, shot-gun, you are going to want all the pumping speed you can get. you can't pump as fast if you have a non-pistol grip.

However, there is a problem, if you pump to hard, you make end up breaking your gun in half (yes, i learned this from experiance (i broke my friends older one), what you want to do is pump fast, but not hard.
I don't recommend a shotgun; it fancy for no benefit.  Get a traditional gun that's easy to use and simply works without "shells" or whatever.

Another site to check is http://www.pyramydair.com/ (http://www.pyramydair.com/) .  I had a great experience with them and would not use Airsplat.

http://www.pyramydair.com/ (http://www.pyramydair.com/)  Is a really good site to use, but there prices arent the best.
Also, http://www.airsoftforum.com/board/forums.html (http://www.airsoftforum.com/board/forums.html) is a forum for airsoft stuff, they also have a buy/sell/trade sections where you can sometimes get really good deals on airsoft stuff.

You can also check craigslist from time to time.

Not all shotguns break fast. If you get a good quality brand shotgun, it will last you awhile.

Im still not sure what a shotgun that shoots shells is. Could someone plz link me to one? Or show me an example?

You know it doesnt actually shoot those shells, right? It just feed BB's from them. They are like the magazines.

Here are the guns I have:

Crosman C11 CO2 Pistol (420-480 FPS)
http://www.pyramydair.com/p/crosman-c11-bb-gun.shtml (http://www.pyramydair.com/p/crosman-c11-bb-gun.shtml)

Crosman NightProwler SA Full-Auto Rifle (325 FPS)
http://www.crosman.com/airsoft/rifles/SAPNSCB (http://www.crosman.com/airsoft/rifles/SAPNSCB)

If you get CO2, you have to buy the CO2 itself and lubricant separate.  Let me know if you get a CO2; I'll send you more links to that stuff.

Depending on your budget, I could recomend some brands. Most good brands are more expensive.
Its hard to find a good electric gun for under $100, but if you look at craigslist and other places you may find some.

TM VSR 10 + all the upgrades  :o also the TM high capa automatic pistol with metal internal upgrade  :o

TM has awesome potential (and they have the parts for the potential) you just need a little modding
Title: Re: Looking for a good airsoft gun..

I meant their AEGs. With Upgrades, any TM gun is extremely awesome, especially the VSR 10. I was thinking about getting a JG Bar 10, then upgrading it alot. What upgrades did your TM VSR 10 have?
Title: Re: Looking for a good airsoft gun..

If you plan to get a stock Tokyo Marui and use it, prepare to be dissapointed. TMs are only good if you upgrade them. They dont shoot very far becuase of a low FPS (around 280) and alot of their parts (gearbox and externals) are plastic. This applies only to their Electric rifles.

Don't worry, you weren't at all.

Crossman BB's rifles arent bad, but their airsoft stuff stinks.

Cameron's was good.

Compared to what?
When compared to this http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=139_24_150&products_id=2881 (http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=139_24_150&products_id=2881) or this http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=139_24_150&products_id=1976 (http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=139_24_150&products_id=1976) it's not very good.
But for the price, its ok.

Ok, you little new comer, you need to back off, that was flat out rude.
Austin, come on. :P  He wasn't rude and you need to stop acting like a :police: here.

And yeah, I know there is better stuff than the Crosman that I have, but I've spent about $100 total, a good bargain in my mind.  $ > perfect functionality for me.  I'm happiest with the C11.  About $45 total for a CO2 backup pistol that shoots fast and has full metal internals?  Good in my cheap mind. :D
