So what exactly was Jacobs ladder and how did it work?
It was the online tournament a long time ago. Basically everyone was ranked, and at any time you could challenge the person 1 (or maybe even 2) spots above you. If you beat them, then you traded spots with them. At the end of a certain amount of time, whoever was at the top won a prize (I think).
Running the online tournament has always been something that burns people out after a while though. I think Jacob's Ladder was started by a guy named Darcy?. But after he burned out, it was later run by Justin Alstat for a while. Then when he burned out it disappeared for a few years, and so Jon Greeson started an unofficial online tournament for about 6 months. Then I talked to Rob about making it official, and so ROOT was born. At the beginning, Jon, Gabe and I all 3 helped run it, but we all got burned out after a little over a year. Then a few other people took turns running ROOT (notably VicePresident RR, Prof Alstad, and Chris). After a respite, I returned and have been running it again for the last 6 months or so.

Seems like a neat idea, speaking of neat, I just started another online tournament called NEET (never ending eternal tournament). It is like iron man in that you can play anyone else in the tournament at any time, I will keep track of the scores (I use exel), and keep the standings updated. Would you like to join?
