Title: If a reboot were to happen, what would you want in it?
Post by: AJ on March 21, 2014, 09:40:30 PM
A post on the " New Set Speculation " thread got me wondering , what would the community want in the reboot/ new expansion? My proposal is that if we were to do a reboot from IJ up, we would.....

1. Not use Roa 3 cards because they have cards for colors not even in IJ.
2. If the set is 210 cards as stated by Rob in the "Kickstarter" thread, I would add 2 good brigades and 2 evil brigades since IJ only has 4 good brigades and 4 evil brigades. This would give us 6 good brigades and 6 evil brigades to use in the new reboot, the same number of brigades Redemption first began.

That is all for now. Please share your thoughts!

This isn't a good idea

This isn't a good idea

Could you p,ease explain why?

I agree with Alex as not being a good idea, in that threads like these often devolve into becoming "what I don't like about Redemption."

In the past, it has been mostly negative and not constructive.  Also, people have flirted with breaking forum rules policies of mentioning other CCGs/TCGs/etc. by offering their perceived "superiority" to Redemption.

Alex may have other reasons, but that is why I 1+ his comment.

The reason for the forum policies on other TCG's is more because of the fact many of these games have themes that aren't supported by the Christian community. While I agree with you on that point it does not take away from the fact that many of these "secular" games are superior to Redemption in how they are marketed and on their gameplay merits.

Sorry my intent was never to bash Redemption. I just wanted to know what everyone else thought because I am very excited about the future of the game because there is many things to be positive about. Like the new expansion is going to be the biggest since "Priests" came out, there could be a reboot, etc.

Self-fulfilling prophecy?    :o

How do you improve something without pointing out the areas that need to be improved?

+1 as long as we don't praise other games over Redemption I see no reason not to point out areas of the game that could be improved, but alas I am not a mod so this is just my opinion. :)

I really, really love this idea.

Also, magic the gathering > redemption.

I don't think this thread should exist because it's going to be full of lukewarm and bad ideas and probably won't even be looked at for ideas anyway. The best case scenario is that we don't make fools of ourselves and it means nothing to the reboot.

I think Redemption should release a large core set that doesn't devote itself to any one theme if redemption is going to get rebooted.

I think themes are just sort of lame in general

I think they could be done in a way like the Lotr lcg where there is 4 colors and the themes or "traits" are spread across the colors to give more strategy.

I'd rather not have a reboot, but I'd still play it anyway. :P

Why would you not want a reboot? A reboot would fix the problems of the game. Also one thing that has not been brought up is, what if instead of starting with IJ up, we add a cost system to the game and make new starters. Imagine having to pay 10 X ( whatever the cost system is ) if you want to play AUTO. It would make the game infinitely better. My proposed cost system is, each card has a number from 1 to 4. You could only play a card if your number of redeemed souls is equal to or less than the number on the card. Or you can only play a card if you have as many or more cards of the same color as the card being played.

I like how the game already is. Now, if the game were to relaunch itself instead of rebooting itself, I'd be more than okay with it.

What is the difference between a reboot and a relaunch?

What is the difference between a reboot and a relaunch?
*puts on ultra-nerdy pair of glasses* Allow me to explain the difference using Marvel and DC as my illustrations.

In 2011, DC Comics rebooted their entire comics universe with the New 52. When they did so, a lot of characters got a fresh new look and a fresh new start, and changed somethings drastically. For example, Barbara Gordon never became Oracle after she was shot by the Joker, and she recovered and continued being Batgirl. Also Wonder Woman actually had a father, instead of just simply being created out of a stone statue. In addition to these changes, lots of new things were introduced, such as entire new teams of characters, histories, and other things. This is a reboot.

In 2012, Marvel relaunched their comics with their Marvel Now plan. The characters changed slightly, and not drastically. The continuity was still pretty much the same from before. And while new teams were introduced, it wasn't as radical as DC's plan. Changes in Marvel were relatively minute compared to DC's. Marvel was just given a face-lift. This is a relaunch.

So in Redemption terms, I'd rather see a relauch, were the cards are given a facelift (as they were last year) with tiny little things added (again, like last year). The game could be streamlined a tad more by reducing the number of brigades, but allow there to be enough for variety's sake. A reboot where the gameplay would be changed drastically is something I'd rather not have. (And again, if Redemption did reboot, I'd play the reboot anyway.)

I guess reboot means the same to me as relaunch  :P.

A reboot is what tech support asks you to do 5 times in a row. A relaunch is what you do when your favorite game crashes to desktop.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

If we're going to do a reboot, then I guess I better sell my old cards as soon as possible. Anyone looking for a bunch of Falling Aways and New Jerusalem doms?
