a sophomore.
-
That's a rather sophomoric thing to post about.
-
Sophmore means "wise fool" in Latin.
-
That is colin all right.
-
Actually, my dictionary says its Greek.

Actually, my dictionary says its Greek.
There is no such thing as a wise fool.
-
That's the literal meaning of sophomore. It's an oxymoron.
-
That's being hypocritical or ironic, depending on the context.
An oxymoron is something that seems to be a contradiction. For example, "jumbo shrimp" is an oxymoron because shrimp are a small fish, so you'd be saying it's a big small fish. A wise fool is possible (a smart person acting foolishly), but seems like a contradiction.

There is a difference between knowledge and wisdom. One who has wisdom cannot be dumb. One who has knowledge can be foolish.

I was going to correct you on it originally, but I figured it'd be counter-intuitive.

Education versus intelligence... I like it because it takes you on a slippery slope that leads to eugenics and genocide.

I thought you created a whole forum for spam? And a hamachi network called Redemption spam? And he wasn't really spamming.
-
He's trying to get the Spam off here. Duh.
-
No. He encoruaged it somewhere else hoping to end it here. Not an oxymoron. An oxymoron is a wise fool, a jumbo shrimp.
-
You are missing the point entirely.
It has nothing to do with the PHYSICAL shrimp itself. An Oxymoron is a simply a term that contradicts itself.
Jumbo Shrimp is the most common example, since Jumbo means big, and Shrimp can be used to describe something small.
Deafening silence is another oxymoron.
Icy Hot is another.
Virtual reality is yet another.
Get it now?
-
Not quite... Go is not the opposite of green.
In all the examples above, the two words are OPPOSITES. Thats what makes it an oxymoron.
-
HE MEANT THE FOOD. THERE IS SUCH A THING AS JUMBO SHRIMP WHICH IS AN OXYMORON BECAUSE SERIOUSLY THE SHRIMP IS LIKE TINY BUT ITS JUMBOER THAN THE OTHER SHRIMP AND BECAUSE SHRIMP MEANS SMALL BUT JUMBO MEANS BIG!!!!!!!!
-
An oxymoron is two words that contradict each other. As stated earlier, Jumbo Shrimp is a great example. Jumbo is the adjective meaning "large", and Shrimp is a small sea creature. Large and small are opposites, therefore it is an oxymoron.
Another example is "Pretty Ugly". Pretty is the opposite of Ugly, therefore that is an oxymoron.

And now it's time for the best story ever.
One bright morning in the middle of the night,
Two dead boys got up to fight.
Back to back they faced each other,
Drew their swords, and shot each other!
A deaf policeman hear the noise,
And went to kill the two dead boys.
If you don't believe my story is true,
Ask the blind man, he saw it too!
