For me:
When our church hired a new associate pastor, his kids tought my siblings and I how to play. Probably in 2008?
Just wondering about everyone else... :)

Went to oakdale and mr.underwood told me bout a tcg he played and taught me. That was in 2010 i thlnk.
-
Who taught Mr. Underwood? Let's hear that story again... :D
-
He taught me. I think he taught himself when he, was in colledge or something.
-
Wild Bill taught me at a minicamp our church put on (not the Arden Hills one), and he came down to teach Redemption (he and my dad have been friends since college). This was back in...2004? 2003? 2002? I think it was right after kings, so I'll say 2003.
-
Yeah, come to think of it, I must've learned in '06. FooF hadn't came out yet.
-
Bought some cards at our church store and Nathan and I tried to figure out how to play by reading the rule book. Looked up Cactus Games on line and learned that the 2002 national tournament was in Rochester, MN. So we went to see what it was all about. Stayed about 1/2 hour meet Chris Bany and he invited us to a game night and taught us to play. The rest is history!

I actually have no idea. I just remember buying packs when I was pretty young. I think Kings came out while I was collecting back then, and I know that Angel Wars was the latest set when I stopped collecting. I never really had anyone to play against though, so I stopped collecting. Then about 2 years ago, someone I know from church, who works with Korunks, found out he had a group who played redemption, so he told my friend who also also had collected back then about it, and after having fun at the group the first night, I've been playing again since then.

Wild Bill taught me waaaaay back in the day at Summer Sunday School, probably around 2003. However, I was 6 then so I didn't start playing seriously until about 2008 and then wasn't any good until 2010.

In late 1997, a student of mine showed me his Star Trek CCG from Decipher. I was impressed with the concept of a collectible card game, but wasn't really a fan of Star Trek or Magic, so about the time Kurt was born (1998), I was taking night classes to clear my teaching credential at Azusa Pacific University. During a break, I went to the library (they had the internet!!!) and did a web search for trading card games. I found the old Redemption.com and was very interested. We didn't really have money in the budget to spend on games, but I dropped a hint to my wife, who picked it up at the local Christian Book Store (which no longer exists), and I got it for my first-ever Father's Day present.

Mr. Underwood tought me at oakdale, christian academy. He had learned in the "Dark ages" of redemption, when everything was, as you can, not as cool. But he is really cool, always trading with us, and teaching us new things. But that is how i learned about redemption.
-
Me? Hmm.... I can remember seeing cards from "Timestream" and thinking that was really cool and then going to a store to look at them and finding Redemption. I got my first cards when I turned 9 in 2004.

Found a ton of cards - including a Nic of Antioch - at a garage sale. My bro and I made decks, but didn't do anything with them (aside from the odd game) for almost a year. I found this place, joined ROOT, and eventually went to a local tournament. Aforementioned bro joined me at the next one.
-
Met Thomas Hunter and mentioned bro, they showed me the game and I got interested instantly. Been playing for about a year now.

I had seen Redemption at Creation for awhile and always wondered what it was. One year my brother bought a starter set, and played a few rounds there. Our other 2 siblings dabbled in it for a little shortly thereafter. I didn't start playing until 2011 when my brother was looking for extra practice or something before Creation. Now over a year later, playing during school breaks, I am becoming a more serious player.

One:What was it like when you started?(the Metagame)
When I first started playing Redemption, it was in the summer of 1995. I picked up a starter deck set and a couple blue packs from the "Lion's Den" Christian Bookstore up in Batavia, NY run by a friendly guy named Daniel. I played the game against myself a couple times, and then when I returned to college, taught it to my friends Dave and Aaron. At the time we were mainly just experimenting with it as a comparison to another strategy card game that I had created based on the Bible as well. Since the game was extremely "limited" back in those days, we didn't like it at all and preferred playing my game instead. So it sat in a box for a decade. The metagame at that point was "play a bunch of 2/2 GEs on your 4/4 GC and hope to end up bigger than the 6/6 EC with it's 2/2 EEs".
When I returned to Redemption about a decade later, I was brought back by a student of mine named Dawn who had come from a playgroup out in Kansas City, led by rpgdirector. At this point, Priests had just come out and the game had evolved significantly. The dominant offense of the time were Angels and the newly feared Z-temple priests. The dominant defense was the minimal standalone splash defense.

Creation East About 14 years ago.

My sister and her husband (Ken4Christ), though he was just the boyfriend at the time, started playing back before Angel Wars came out. They'd often play each other while hanging out at our parent's house. I had always been interested in card games so it piqued my curiosity and I begged them to teach me. At first she didn't want to (probably because she wanted to keep it as something she and he could do together, which I totally understand), but eventually she caved and let me learn how to play. Been playing on and off ever since.

The M gave me some cards and tried to teach me the game, but I did not under stand it at all. 2ish years later I went to an event at our church which was normally on a different day. I saw The M's parents and asked where he was. I went to the gamenight, learned more about the game, Bill gave me a starter deck and I was hooked. That was 5 years ago.
P.S. I went to my first tournament 5 years ago today.

When I was in the 5th grade at Fort Myers Christian School in '03. My class was big into Yugioh, so my teacher who is now my best friend, taught us the game and we had a class tournement at the end of the 2nd semester, cause he took over at the start of the 2nd. After that only me and him played really. It wasn't until this year that we started meeting the guys in Southeast FL.

I discovered Redemption at the National Youth Workers Convention in St. Louis in '95. They had a booth in the resource exhibit hall. I bought the A/B starter deck and some boosters. I pulled a Goliath and was unstoppable against the group I came with. ;D.

I started back in 2009 ,when I was in Berean Christian Stores in Lancaster, Pa, and found a Redemption Gift Set (the Red and Gold box with decks G/H (10th Anniversary I believe). I thought the game would be really cool to play with my girlfriend (now wife); so I bought it. I got home and opened it up and just by looking at the cards it reminded me of my high school days when I played MTG. I thought to myself, "I know how to play this game!" Read the rule book for any differences and started playing. Went to Creation that year and had a rep build me a deck from the cards I had. I taught my brother in laws how to play and all three of us have been playing ever since.
-
I was introduced to the game four or five years ago by some friends of mine. I didn't want to play it at first becasue I wanted to be president when I grew up, and figured that presidents shouldn't play redemption (also, I knew I would get addicted)...
...Five years later I'm a stay at home son with no life goals to speak of. That's alright though. becasue I would much rather play redemption. ;)
PS. Redemption didn't actually make me into a stay at home son, my laziness did that!

Mine is an bit of a weird story. A long time ago (I don't remember the year) I was at a giant family gathering (it included second cousins, but I don't remember the limits) But anyway one of the people there had a second edition starter deck, we played a game, I was very interested and the christian bookstore in my city carried cards but I knew no one who played (actually I knew one person but I didn't know that at the time and she didn't really play much anyway).
Fast forward a few years (the summer of 2003) and a friend of mine (who I played Yugioh with, he really was more of my older brother's friend at the time than mine) introduced me to Redemption for the second time, but this time one of my other friends also wanted to start. I eventually (once I could afford it) bought a 2nd Edition starter deck.
My first tournament was that fall and I met the majority of the playgroup (including some people who would become good friends)

I dont remember an exact date or anything Bryon would remember better then me :P But not long after Bryon started playing Redemption he showed a bunch of us at church and we got hooked. This was sometime around 1998 or 1999 dont remember when exactly but I do remember playing before Warriors came out or at least before we knew that set existed lol So yeah been playing ever since and what a ride its been watching the game develop over the years! There is still nothing like the thrill of opening up a pack and getting a 10/10 Red Dragon!

Wild Bill->my siblings->me. I learned early and got the hang of it eventually and started being more competitive as opposed to, "Ooh, this card looks cool. Sure, I'll trade you my warriors Captain for your kings Gabriel..."

In February of 2008 I was laid off and looking for a job. During that time I was researching alternate art for MTG and stumbled on some art that was on a Redemption card. (I want to say it was A New Creation but I don't remember off hand) I used to play just about any card, board, dice game I could try so I started some research. I looked on eBay for cards and then soon found the message boards. I posted somewhere on here and got a few responses from soul seeker, Gabe and a few others. All with a very kind attitude. (Very different from MTG crowds) I won an auction on eBay which was huge. I think I paid $47 for the lot. I soon found a full set of woman's, warriors, and a partial set missing just a couple ultra rares of kings and a lot of limited/unlimited. I went to the local Christian store and found E/F deck, G/H 10th Anniversary tin and some packs (prophets, priests, and almost a full box of woman's packs) I paid a $1 a pack for prophets and $2 a pack for the priests and woman's. Thanks to Gabe for all the emails of positive reinforcement and deck building tips. He also helped me get all the staple lost souls and dominants and some other cards to help boost my G deck to start with. I could go on but that's my story...for now.

I was playing pokemon at the time but my mom heard about a christian card game like it so I swapped it and I first played when I was just starting the first grade (2006) at that time the new starter came out with new jerusalem and I have never played without it. So from then on I joined the Sedalia play group. (Fun fact- the first redemption game I played someone played wrath of satan.)

You started first grade in 06? Goodness... I feel old.

I had always liked strategy games so my parents bought 2 A/B starter decks as Christmas presents for me and my brother in 95. We played a lot and got limited booster packs (I too remember the excitement of opening a 10/10 character). I think in 96 I went to Creation, met Rob and got a prophets booster pack for each person I taught how to play. That was really fun. As my brother got older he quit wanting to play games and since he was the only person I knew in OH that played, I took a break. Since the game was so simple I didn't feel as much draw to pursue it. When Apostles came out, I happened to see some at the local Christian bookstore and bought them out of curiosity. I was amazed at how big a difference there was in the game. I got a bunch with my friend Jacob and we started playing a lot. I think at this time I found the message boards and tournaments! I think the first was Nationals in Pittsburgh; that was quite an experience where I learned that half the things didn't play the way I thought they did. Been playing on and off since then (mainly due to available time and finding other people to play against).

I learned from a friend we played sharing his type 2 deck. (funny story I blocked 3 straight rescue attempts with assyrian archer) got a EF starter deck for Christmas and been obsesd ever sense. so obsesd that my mom put them in the closet so i did speech on it's true value and got them out of the closet.
