Possibly the weirdest thread I have ever seen. LOTR is much Much MUCH better. Dialogue of Star Wars: Wooden. Of LOTR: engaging. But it's not as old and Star Wars has cool battles.

I was referencing Pippin's height after drinking the ent water.

...hate to be a party pooper, but it's just water from the river Entwash. And I'm pretty sure Ents don't pee into the river.
I was referencing Pippin's height after drinking the ent water.
Wouldn't that be more 4/8?

Tooks>Bagginses. The only reason Biblo is cool is because he's part Took.

Fair enough. Frodo is also, however, any reason you didn't mention him?

No, I'm pretty positive it's 3/8, and IMDB agrees with me.

Frodo is the lamest of all the hobbits. I'd take Folco Boffin over him, though that's mostly because he has a sweet name.

Yeah, you're right.

About Pippin I mean. I can think of a lot lamer hobbits than Frodo... Fatty Bolger comes to mind...

Don't get me wrong, elves rock - you're speaking (typing?) to one who can read and write with the Tengwar.
But hobbits are beasts. I didn't see an elf stab the Witch King of Angmar (with a sword for which the movie had no explanation of why it could do that). Or hike through Mordor. Or have a shard of a Morgul blade in them for two weeks.
Yes, elves are awesome, but hobbits are better.

Jealous. I've done some research, but the most I ever do is write my own name. In Quenya, though Sindarin would be pretty easy to figure out from there.

Yep. Hobbits rock. I've read the LOTR books, the Hobbit, and working on the Silmarrilion. It's rather difficult.

See, I can do the letters but not the actual language. Maybe we should get together  ;)

Same with me for a while. I know lots of people who breezed through the Hobbit, struggled minimally with LOTR, and couldn't get through the Silmarillion. It helps when you have lots of time to read  :P

We might as well rename this thread LOTR and move it to the entertainment section.  ::)

If you were to learn how to speak Quenyan, then it would probably be easier to write in it.

Exactly, I don't know it yet. Trying, but it's a lot easier to learn how to write (in english) by practicing using Tengwar than to go around speaking Quenyan (or more likely Sindarin, since that's the conversational language).

I actually like the new Newsboys better. Save Your Life is one of my current favorite songs. However, I am partial to Michael Tait since we were at Liberty University together, back when he was still with D.C. Talk, so my opinion is biased.
Title: Re: Happy Star Wars Day!

Continuing this tangent for no apparent reason...

I didn't realize Newsboys did that version.
Liked the old Newsboys more then these guys.
I really hate it when people make general statements like that. What's wrong with the new Newsboys? Was it the song (which they didn't write), is it Tait's voice (the only member who's different IIRC), or did they massively change in style when Peter resigned?
Honestly, I don't see a big difference. I really didn't care for Newsboys after Thrive, and haven't cared for Tait since DC Talk, so it's not a big deal, but whatever.
Title: Re: Happy Star Wars Day!
Post by: browarod on May 13, 2012, 05:45:46 PM
I liked DC Talk's style, I liked Newsboys' old style, I don't really care that much for the combination. Old NB had a fun, sometimes silly style and I don't think this song specifically but new NB in general really has that anymore. As far as DCT goes, I liked the other singer better anyway, so there is a bit of bias there.

Kevin is always the forgotten one since he kinda dropped out of the music scene afterward. I always took them as a whole, but none of their future projects were ever as good as DC Talk.

This thread is so messed up. Star Wars, LotR, Newsboys, DC Talk. Okay.

Batman Begins had a better villain than the Joker. He can be destroyed, or locked up. But if you make yourself more than just a man, if you devote yourself to an ideal, and if they can't stop you, then you become something else entirely.

Skillet is the Nickleback of Christian music.

Okay, not quite, but I really don't like them, though at one point I thought they were good (around the same time I thought Nickleback was decent).
Skillet is good. I prefer them to TFK even though TFK is good.(Personally my fave "Christian" band is Anberlin) Skillet's best work was Collide or Comatose. Not Awake.

R.I.P. original topic. :'(

(https://www.cactusforums.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi287.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fll136%2F007danman%2Ftmwkb19.jpg&hash=4a914e086d86357b1129ce814647f4e96711de2a)

This topic is now about why Joker is the best villain ever and/or why Mark Hamill is the best Joker actor.

We could talk about Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker and bring the thread full circle...

While he was good as Luke, I think his best role is still the Joker. He did that voice PERFECTLY.

Disagreeable. Cooper can sing. It depends largely on personally preference. Trevor's vocal style isn't my fave. I'm listening to "Be somebody" vs Comatose and it's entirely two different styles of vocals which really is like comparing apples to oranges TBH. Cooper's voice is gravely. Trevor's is smooth. Don't compare vocals from two different vocal types. Does not work.

This is related to the last post.

Trevor has a pure voice. The desire for gravely vocals is nothing more than a product of teen angst. Cooper sings like Nickelback. Trevor does much more with his vocals and does it with a purity rock has been missing for a long time.

Personal preference is subjective, sure, but Trevor is the more talented and naturally gifted vocalist.

Saying Cooper "Can't" sing is false. Saying Trevor is more talented isn't as bad. My personal preference is that in rock gravely vocals are better to me. Of course I discount this when I say I'm a huge fan of Anberlin but when it comes to skillet vs TFK I go skillet.

I was crazy about legos from about when I was 6 to the time I was 11 or so. But now, I've lost interest and have the perspective: "How many good Redemption cards could I buy with this money?"

Plus, the newer sets are much worse, imo and are wayyyy overpriced.

I still find playmobil pretty awesome though. We have a couple big boxes of it in our basement. We make rules and have battles. It's a blast. Haven't done that in while though…

I Will now State that, While IMO Funny, These Short 3-word Sentences are (In Possibly The Mods Opinion, Not Mine) Borderline Spam and if this thread Continues in a downward Spiral it will Probably get locked.
This entire thread was spam except for maybe, MAYBE the first couple posts. This is easily one of the worse spam threads, but the mods have been gracious enough to let it go. That said, it definitely deserves the lock.
I'd say there's been maybe a few worse spam threads. But hey, no g-word pics yet.

Not Spam As I Define it..... (Then again that doesn't matter does it...) Most Of the Posts have been part of a discussion about (,While Admittedly off topic) something. only the 3-word sentences seem Isolated and Meaninglessly Spam-Like.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the revenge of the fifth.

Ehh, not really. It's only about a week old. Probably would be best to just let this thread die though…
