Title: Happy something-or-other day!
Post by: SomeKittens on February 14, 2012, 10:41:24 AM
So, it's February 14th, which means that it's now time for the vast majority of my friends on Facebook to complain about how they are dissatisfied with their relationship status.  Personally, I think Valentine's Day is pretty darn commercial, but it's a great excuse to shower my girlfriend with love.  (other excuses: Birthday, Christmas, Thursday).  Anyone have thoughts on Valentine's/Singles Awareness/Buy Hallmark/Complain about relationship angst day?

This is my obligatory monologue about how you should love your significant other every day, not just today.

This is my obligatory overly bitter monologue that I try not to make seem bitter about being single on this day again, but no one is fooled.

This is me cursing and storming off to my cave of bitterness and contempt.

Calling Valentine's Day S.A.D. is like calling Christmas Jewish Kids Awareness Day. Celebrate it if you want, and don't be a wet blanket otherwise.

It's a 9.7:1 ratio, and if I remember my conversions correctly, that makes it so 970% of the people here are male.

Good point.  In that case let me point out to the youngens, treat everyday with your special someone as though it is Valentine's Day.  The big issue I have with Valentine's Day is that I see a lot of men I know personally fall back on the notion that they don't have to show a lot of love and respect to their significant other on the little things everyday as long as they do it up right on February 14.  Very.  Bad.  Idea.

I'm curious how many people know the true story of Valentine's day?

No, that a bunch of Saints named Valentine died some pretty horrible ways.

For 28 more minutes. If you have a significant other, now is the time to beg for forgiveness

Was only kidding.  Valentine's day (Every holiday for that matter) this year lasts almost 2 days for me since my "significant other" is currently residing on the other side of the world.  Next year it shall be different.

Ana Ng is a great song by the band They Might Be Giants. One of their best works, along with No One Knows My Plan, I've Got a Match, and of course Birdhouse in Your Soul.

When it comes to They Might Be Giants, I've gotta go with their song Istanbul. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulsloBRDFzA&feature=related)

Istanbul was the first TMBG song I heard, but Ana Ng is still my favorite.

It calls the .add() method on the postCount object.  It's not legitimate at all.
