Too bad they both can't lose, haha. I don't like watching a game without having picked a team to win it. I think for this one, I'll pick the Ducks.
-
Auburn is gonna win. I love them cause they have alot Christians on their team and they have Cam Newton.. :)
Also Auburn has played better teams than the Ducks.. It'll be an awesome game nonetheless.
-
idk oragons west cost offence is prity tough!
-
Well, at least when you say, "Go Ducks!" in your chosen bowl game, there is no question who you are talking about. For me to say, "Go Huskies!" leaves a big question, since I could be referring to UConn, Washington, or Northern Illinois.
I guess I'll just root for them all. GO HUSKIES! ;D
-
If you're going to root for them all you have to combine all the teams names into one ;)

Northern UWash.

That's funny, I heard no one wanted to play the Sooners for the title, so they're this year's national champions...

Auburn's gonna win. I'm a tide fan but AL's football teams are the best.(2 diffent teams in natanal champs 2 years in a row.)

The SEC in general produces pretty good football teams and players. Except Tim Tebow.
I like how everyone was mad that Bradford was the first overall pick and Tebow the second overall, yet Bradford's got a starting job and Tebow doesn't. Fat lot of good Tebow's running has done him (except the one rushing TD he has... -_-).
-
I don't think you Tim Tebow haters realize how silly you sound.
FTR, Tim Tebow has three rushing TDs and one passing TD (in his only pass attempt). He was not brought in to be the starter this year. Kyle Orton is their starter and is really not that bad. St. Louis, on the other hand, drafted Bradford to be the starter. You are comparing apples to oranges, as so many people on these boards like to say.
Also, Tim Tebow was not the second overall pick. He was the 25th overall pick, and frankly was not expected to go that high. The Broncos took a great leap, but now their coach has been fired, at least partly because he was under fire for selecting Tebow in the first place.
Essentially, there are two reasons people hate Tim Tebow. The foremost reason is because he has always been a very outspoken Christian. Anti-Christians love to hate him for that. The second reason is that he is tough to stop. That makes teams (and their fans) that have to play against him hate him. SEC fans love to hate him for that.
I can only guess that you are an SEC fan, because otherwise you have no reason to show so much disdain for a fellow brother in Christ, one who was not afraid to publicly voice his faith in our Lord, at the expense of popularity. I am glad that his popularity was only heightened by that decision.
I really don't like the Gators or the Broncos. However, even I found myself rooting for Tim Tebow. I wish I had his boldness when it comes to expressing my faith under such scrutiny.... and hatred.
-
There is a difference in rooting for/against a team/player and hating someone. If I root against the gators, I don't hate them, I'm just hoping they tank because a lot of times they're very cocky. If my team is playing XYZ team and their kicker is trying to beat my team in the last second. When I root against him and hope he misses, it's nothing against his character or because I hate him. There is a huge difference in hate and rooting against people in sports.
Tim Tebow is sometimes hard to root against and other times very easy to root against. If you see his speeches and teaching to prisoners before the game, it's like man, I wish I could be like that. He seems to really love God and have a passion for spreading the Gospel.
On the field..if he is playing your team and scores a touchdown and does the gator chomp...It's on like donkey kong after that. Or his famous pumping up the crowd by throwing up his arms.
I was happy to see him go to the Broncos because one of my brothers is a Bronco fan. He was blessed and drafted a lot higher than a lot of people thought he would be also. You can't look at Tebow's numbers and say a lot this year. He doesn't get the chances.
Hater isn't the best word to use. There's a huge difference in rooting for/against sports teams/players than hating them.

Waitwaitwait. Who hates Tebow? I must have a talk with these people.

Singling out one person is a hater.

That's not rooting against a team. That's hating a person.
I realize that you do not think so because you are like most other sports fans that think saying negative things is okay as long as it is in sports. I continue to disagree with that philosophy. It is entirely possible to be a rabid fan of my team without saying anything negative about anyone else's team. I love the Patriots. But I don't go around posting anti-Jets negativity, even after Monday night's game. That would only upset the Jets fans on the boards who are my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.
-

I disagree. I believe that you can joke/kid around with your family and buddies about sports. Is there a difference in joking and just being a jerk, yes. But if your buddy is the shortstop of the softball team you're playing against and hits a soft grounder back to the pitcher for an out. When you're on second base the next inning because you blasted a double, is it wrong to say hey Jimbo, way to swing the bat buddy haha. I don't think it is.
-
So you're suggesting that Master Chi and Tim Tebow are softball buddies?
-
So you're suggesting that Master Chi and Tim Tebow are softball buddies?
I'm not saying that at all. It was just an example. There is no difference in joking with your buddy about a soft grounder, his bad sports team, or a goofy shirt he wore today. It's all the same. It seems you take sports more personal.

Your example compares two completely different scenarios. The majority of bashing between Red Sox/Yankees fans, Michigan/Ohio State fans, or [insert your favorite rivalry here] fans is far from playful banter. I lived on the front line of the Red Sox/Yankee rivalry when I lived in Connecticut. All I saw was painful negativity. There was nothing playful about the things that were done and said in the name of "joking." It's not a joke when someone gets hurt.
-
So you do agree there's a difference then. People are so sensitive now-a-days. They get their feelings hurt over pretty much anything.

Part of my job (and ministry) as a teacher is to protect the sensitive folk from the insensitive folk. Bullying is a serious problem that cannot be ignored. If you could read the headlines here in Florida, you could see how severe it can be. Anything that I can do to interrupt and prevent it, I will do.

Do you believe there is a difference between joking and bullying?

I believe the bully only thinks he's joking.

We're pretty much just running in circles now and I doubt we'll either give a whole lot on this subject, so it's probably best we just allow the thread to get back to the actual topic.
To get back on topic: I could easily see either team winning. Auburn will get a lot of the media backing them because they're in the SEC, but I think the SEC was down a little bit this year. I'll be rooting for Oregon because I picked them in my bowl pick 'em, haha.

I apologize for the misconstruation of my words. I was extremely tired when I posted that.
I only dislike Tebow as a player. I greatly admire him as a disciple of Christ, but the reason for my disdain of him as a football player originates from the 2009 National Championship game between the Sooners and the Gators. I generally hate the Gators (mostly a bunch of arrogant punks). But in college ball, you can run rampant and put up gaudy numbers like Tebow did, but the NFL is a whole different cookie. There are very few good "scrambling" QB's (Vick is the only one that comes to mind) in the NFL.
And about Cam Newton, he sounds suspicious and I do not really like him initially as a player or person. College greats rarely become NFL greats.
-
Yeah. The college game and NFL are too different games. That's why when they show the starting lineups for each team, you see a lot of schools outside the top 25 and some you've never heard of.

I cannot plus one that enough.

{Sigh} I only wish the bullies in my school had been able to think.

you guys are tebow????? boo!!!!!!! lol
naw he seems like a great guy! (i just hate the broncos and gators! lol ;p)

The Huskies are 1-0 so far! I hope the other Huskies have the same success. ;D

No definitive conclusions from his first NFL start. He had a 40-yard touchdown run that was reminiscent of his college days. He also had a 33-yard TD pass. However, those were both in the first half, and he did not do much else. I would assume he'll still get to start for the rest of the season, but a rookie QB leading a 3-11 team will not be highlight film material. ;)
-
A receiver also dropped one of his passes that would have been a 20-30 yard TD.
-
The Huskies are now 2-0 !!! The University of Washington finally is back on its feet. It's hard to believe that this once powerhouse school was 0-12 two years ago. :o
One more Huskies win to go. UConn!!!
-------------------------------------------------
Continuing the Tim Tebow saga, his last game was quite a statement. A come from behind victory is a good way to secure your job. I feel bad for Kyle Orton because his numbers have been quite good this year. However, the lack of wins is the bottom line. The team (and town) has certainly rallied behind Tebow.
-
The good thing for Orton though is that there are a couple QB's that are starters that are not that great and he'll be able to take one of their spots.

Subpar starters in the NFL? You must be joking. ;)

Back to the original topic, I think Auburn will win because they have shown more against a lot tougher teams than Oregon. Oregon has a good offense, but their key is the running game, and Auburn's strong point on defense is stopping the running game.
Oregon and Auburn are very similar on style of offense and some would say they both have a lack of defense, but Auburn's defense has come through when it mattered this season.
Plus, while Auburn is in no way a one man team like so many people want to make it sound, they do have a huge wildcard with Cam Newton.
If Oregon had played Alabama and been down 24 -0 would they have been able to come back and win it? Maybe, but it's hard to know since I don't think Oregon has played anyone that great all season.
I could end up being wrong, but I don't think Oregon can hold up to what Auburn has.
Oh, and Tim Tebow was and still is a very good football player.
-

I would have to disagree Oregon came back from down 21 -0 to an awsome Stanford team who I would say is prabably much better than Alabama. And I believe that Stanford could also beat Auburn. So Its hard to say that Oregon hasn't played anyone great.
But nevertheless Auburn will win because Cam Newton will do something magical. He does everything that he's payed for. lol

Cam Newton officially killed this thread.

Cam Newton killed a duck and us Auburn fans laughed at the duck till our throats were sore.
