Title: Fair Warning to the Redemption World
Post by: Professoralstad on March 19, 2010, 01:10:40 PM
Just as a warning to all Redemption players: There is soon to be another Alstad Redemption player. That is, she has started to play Redemption, but she still has 2.5 months before she's an Alstad  ;).

Yes, that's right. I have taught my fiancee how to play, and she likes it. She is 2-1 vs. me in G vs. H.

I'm not sure if that means that she'd be willing to take a trip with me to MA. But here's hoping.

I think there was some kind of deal involving taking turns picking activities during spring break... :P

Yeah...it mostly means I'll have to work out with her more...which is good for me anyway.

Yep. I've already written out the one about me going clothes shopping with her if she'll let me watch March Madness on a small tv.

What's an Alstad redemtion player?

I will define for you.

Alstad: Norwegian: habitational name from any of ten or so farms, most in Trondelag, named Alstad, from a personal name + Old Norse sta{dh}r ‘farmstead’, ‘dwelling’.

Redemption: a long-standing Christian CCG

Player: a person or thing that plays.
a person who takes part or is skilled in some game or sport.

Hope that helps. ;)

Nah.  I doubt that hi123 would like his ignorance enshrined forever :)

Ignorance only means a lack of knowledge, NOT a lack of intelligence.  I'm sure that hi123 is a bright person, just not too experienced with the broader Redemption community, yet.  To answer his question.  The Alstad's are a family from MN who have been active and well known in the Redemption community for many years.  They include Justin (who is a previous National champion), Jordan (who just won the big T2 tourney I think), Britta (who is probably the most successful female Redemption player ever), and Jayden (who I think is the young up-and-comer right now).

You forgot the Duke of Orange: Jonathan!   ;)

Jonathan has not been an active member of the Redemption community for quite awhile, so I wouldn't the other Prof for not knowing. But in his heyday, he was certainly a force to be reckoned with. He would have won the 2005 T1-2P National Tournament (i.e. biggest tournament in Redemption history) according to the current rules, but he ended up taking second after tying JDS and having 3 fewer LS differential (he beat JDS in their head-to-head match, which would have given him the title).

Currently, Jonathan owns few (if any) cards, and has focused more on video games, college, and working more than Redemption.

He also forgot the Little Princess... ::) But she's not really an active part of the Redemption community either, so he is forgiven.

Prof Underwood, I am curious as to why you would give me the label "the most successful Redemption player ever", but thank you for the compliment. :)

That would make more sense. Ha, I remember the good old days when my name was actually feared in Minnesota and my towering height added to my intimidation of all the young guy players...now they've all grown up and surpassed me in height and skill. Thankfully, I long ago gave up going to tournaments with the intent to win and now I just go to hang out with all the awesome people! :)

RED is correct, I did forget the "female" adjective there.  But who knows the future, maybe 20 years from now we won't need that adjective.  Maybe I was prophesying :)

Disclaimer: Prof does not consider himself to have the gift of prophecy.

How dare you so flippantly refer to God's divine gift of prophecy for something as trivial as who will be the best Redemption player in 20 years? Also, real prophets don't say "maybe". They share God's messages with authority. Tread carefully, Prof, tread carefully.

Disclaimer: Prof does not consider himself to have the gift of prophecy.

Oh. Carry on.  ;)

And yet despite similar circumstances you have resumed playing. Mayhaps we will see the same from the Duke of Orange. I hope so, anyway.

The Redemption community is both more interesting and enjoyable with greater numbers of active Alstads.

Don't give up on the Duke of Orange; I believe he still enjoys Redemption but it simply has not been something that has fit well into his life right now. (He works 30+ hours every other weekend so availability of tournaments is tough for him even in MN).

No problem. T2-2P is the category that takes skill to win. MP is all abut luck  ;).

We need some 4th player who doesn't know we are all using ANB as well, just so we can see his face.

What's an Alstad redemtion player?

Just think of Gilligan’s Island.  I think the Alstad family was stranded somewhere with just Redemption cards. I meet them after they were rescued and moved to MN.

Jayden - Bob Denver as Gilligan, crewman of the S.S. Minnow. ( still growing up)

Justin - Alan Hale, Jr. as the "Skipper." (thinks he is in charge)

Jonathan - Jim Backus as Thurston Howell, III, the millionaire. ( will be the first Alstad to make a Million)

Breanna - Natalie Schafer as Eunice "Lovey" Wentworth Howell, Thurston's wife. (probably wouldn’t mind being married to a millionaire when she grows up)

Jordans fiancee - Tina Louise as Ginger Grant, the movie star. (need I say any more)

Jordan - Russell Johnson as Roy Hinkley (The Professor) (the all wise one)

Britta - Dawn Wells as Mary Ann Summers. ( has a neat spirit)

That song just pops into my head every time I see one. :-*
