i wish i was from Australia. it's a great place to live except for all the poisonous creatures that haunt that continent. i'll vote for Tony Abbot because you know...females...
-
And the accent is pretty sweet.
-
Australia doesn't really have that many problems with poisonous creatures.
And you think that the aussie accent is sweet and i reckon the american accent is just weird (no offence).
-
Krikey! She's a fiesty sheeluh!

There's actually 13-17, depending on who you ask.

Minnesota has it's own accent, and we're proud of it. :D

There are tons of accents. The first ones that come to my mind are:
Minnesota
Boston
New York
Chicago
'South'
'Western'
Philly
and Michigan
-
um... who cares about accents as long as we can communicate with each other

So who won the election?
Pedro, thanks to Napoleon.
-
Were there any conservatives running, because if there were I would have voted for them.

So who won the election?

Yeah, I was never able to finish watching that movie. Both times I tried, I fell asleep twenty minutes in. And I wasn't even tired either time. It was just a sleep-inducing movie.

I had the opposite problem. I fell asleep prior to starting it, and woke up just in time for his dumb dance at the end. I have no desire to watch the rest of that movie.

Bah. I hate the dumb humor in that.

So who won the election?
No one yet.
Voting tommorrow.

Isn't this your first female PM?

So this is your first, and she's running for reelection?
...and she wasn't even elected the first time? (Hey, we did that too!)

Wrong on so many levels.

How did you even find out about Redemption all the way in Australia
It's wonderful, i'm just curious

My brother got it for christmas a few years ago and I played a game against him and it was awesome!!!
Since then I've really liked it.
Too bad you can't really get it that much here in Australia.
So this is your first, and she's running for reelection?

We had Kevin Rudd as prime minister in 2007 and then a month ago his deputy kicked him out and put herself in with the rest of her supporters so this is really her first election as prime minister.
You guys get that???

She formed a Ku to overthrow your current prime minister and no one stopped her?

We're much more efficient here in the US of A. We rig it all up before the election even happens.
Also: it's spelled Coup, but pronounced Ku. Thanks a lot, Babel-builders.

So who won the election?
-
Hmm, are either of the candidates worth voting for? THIS IS MY PERSONAL OPINION: I didn't see a reason to vote in the last American election because I thought both candidates were dirt bags... Well, you might call one an "Old, Wind Bag" but neither seemed quite prepared to truly lead our country. So this makes me leery of voting for politicians because most of them seem crooked IMHO. Good luck on getting a good winner/ I hope Australia has some "better" quality politicians.

I've heard a great theory that those most likely to run for office are least likely to be suited for it.
-
I'm going to vote JFK as a write-in for the 2012 election.
-
Don't waste your vote, vote for Jon Stewart! He'll only bow to the late night comedian lobby.
-

I like that theory... My vote for the Australian election would be for the woman if she hasn't made any major mistakes while being the PM, after all, you at least have an idea of what she may/may not do :)
-
So who won the election?
Ok. Voting was on Saturday and is classified the closest election in Australian history.
They are still counting the votes because we have a preferential voting system.
So far Labour (Julia Gillard) with 73 seats won and Liberal (Tony Abbot) also with 73 seats won.
Other parties together have only one 4 (Independents with 3 and Greens with 1)
There are 5 seats still in doubt.
-
Geez, this is so 2000.
-
what you mean???
(P.S. STILL no outcome)
:)
-
The 2000 election here in the US was not decided until about a month after the fact. The first time someone ever won without winning the popular vote I believe...

-
It was actually the 4th time someone won without gaining the poular vote IIRC.
-
Ahhh...good information. Who were the other three if you don't mind me asking?
-
1824 John Quincy Adams
1876 Rutherford B Hayes
1892 Benjamin Harrison

No.
I was referring rather to the issue at the polls, rather than date of completion. Anyone looking for a thought-provoking movie should check out Hacking Democracy (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7926958774822130737#)

I can find out raw statistics and facts here... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia)
Things I am curious about are strange things like what's on the menu at McDonalds in Australia (if there are McDonalds there)?
What do Ausies think about Crocodile Dundee or Steve Irwin?
Is there really a dislike between Australians and New Zelanders?
How often do you see a Kangaroo?
-
who cares about kangaroos when koalas and wombats and blue tongued skinks and the deadly animals like Funnel Web spiders and Death Adders and Opera Singers
-
Why do you have a giant building with sails when it can't move?
Do you guys eat kangaroo, and if so, what does it taste like?
-

of course there are McDonalds in Australia. There everywhere. But they I think are really bad.
never watched croc dundee and Steve's dead.
You see kanga's in the zoo or just about all the time in the bush/outback.
Why do you have a giant building with sails when it can't move?

The giant building as you probably know is the Sydney Opera House and the sails are only its designs.
You can eat kangaroo and it tastes like dry beef to me. (Not that dry really.)

Wait, it tastes like salt but we all eat it anyway.
FIXED. Art thou happy?

-
I saw something about that on Wikipedia, but thanks anyway.
-
What is it with important female political figures all of a sudden?
Not that that is a bad thing (which it isn't)
But how & why?
