Title: Devotionals
Post by: spacy32 on April 18, 2016, 01:46:19 PM
I have been to a lot of tournaments... I have hosted a lot of tournaments but one thing has escaped me...

How come we don't set aside a 15 to 30 minute period to have a devotion with the players.

or maybe just a discussion about the people in the Bible.

Some of the people playing might not have been in church long and don't know a lot about what we believe and why. Wouldn't it be nice to give them a message in the fun.

My church host soccer on Sundays and in between games and at halftime, they bring the guys into the air to rest up, eat and have a devotion. It's a great witness and ministry.

Yes we have Land of Redemption which is great. I have used those in my devotions with my playgroup.  We even did devotions each night in our hotel room at Nats last year. I have started doing a devotion whenever my group meets.

What ideas do other groups do?  Do you have any suggestions for what you think should be done? Should we make devotions mandatory at tourneys???

Last summer, jesse hosted a play group that met once a week that had daily devotions about some of the major cards in the game.

I think devotionals should be encouraged, but not required. Part of this might be ensuring that we offer prepared devotionals either here on the forum or on Land of Redemption that hosts can use. Perhaps hosts that have some more experienced players can ask them if they would be willing to do the devotional so that it doesn't put everything on the host.

In the Twin Cities group we typically have not done devotionals with our monthly tournaments but when we've done our Redemption mini-camp over the summer there is a devotional each day. It's always great to see the kids studying the cards after they've been introduced to the story behind the cards.

I agree. For example I offered a pack of cards to each one who did the lesson. I even gave one of them a card (Tola) and said research this person and tell us their story.

That's a great way to do it!

At our mini-camp, Bill would do a quiz each day and the top scores from each age group would get prizes.

Actually,  A redemption themed devotional guide/book would be awesome.  All of art from the cards plus devotional content from the players and elders would be so cool.

Maybe that's something we can ask Rob about doing...I could see putting together a PDF document that hosts could print off. The Elder/Playtest team has a few other projects lined up that we need to finish so it would definitely be something for the whole community to work together on!  :)

There are a lot of great Redemption based devotionals from Jesse and Joey on Land of Redemption. That's a good starting point but only the tip of the iceberg as far as material goes!

Good because right now I am printing every article from Land or Redemption and putting it into a 3 ring binder
