Title: Cactus just hated themselves out of a customer.
Post by: Red on March 15, 2012, 08:03:08 PM
I've considered quitting after nationals. The rule changes I admit are a part of that. Now that the rule changes have been implemented in the beginning of major tournament season I'm considering quitting entirely. Life has gotten busy between work/school/beta club, I've had little time for Redemption. But now with these rule changes it's the last straw. Cactus, you just killed this game, and you've lost a customer of nearly seven years.

That's an attitude I must say I won't miss.

What you mean is "I can't run speed the same way I've been running it for a while and I'm mad about it."

This is the biggest step toward fixing the broken meta Redemption has suffered from for a long time, in a long time.

I'm sorry but middle of season rule changes that change the way I've played this game for seven years happen I'm liables to be miffed. And no this does nothing for stopping speed. It just changes it. As well as making every deck I have illegal.

First of all, I'm genuinely sorry you feel that way.

But second, you're specifically quitting because of a dominant cap?  Can you be more specific on the reasons?

Lastly, don't you think saying Cactus "hates" you is a little extreme?

Here's a positive for you though.  Stay with the game instead, and sell those extra dominants that you won't be using.  You get to keep playing Redemption (and a more interactive Redemption at that), AND you have more money to buy cool stuff with!

I'm pretty sure you say this anytime anything you even slightly dislike is said.... ::)

So? It makes everyone's decks illegal, at least until they spend 45 seconds removing the excess dominants.

It absolutely stops speed, the only reason speed decks are viable is because of how distorting dominants are, try playing speed without AotL, Guardian, Mayhem, FA, Grapes or HT and tell me how it goes.

That completly BS 2 doms a deck rule isn't in effect. And anyone who says this increases interactivness is very hopeful. VERY. But possibly this may make my secret deck better. If so then I may be happier but I still think this was bad as a whole.

"I'll be less upset about this if it ends up working to my advantage."

Yeah, yours is outrage to be taken seriously.

Red, please take my advice: Next time something frustrates you, before immediately posting another "I HATE I QUIT", please relax and let a little time pass, while thoroughly thinking through the pros and cons of whatever change has angered you. If you play some games with these new rules and still decide you hate them, discuss the reasons why. If you are still convinced that the game has so degenerated that you simply cannot play any longer, then you are justified in no longer playing the game, but if you quit, please quit quietly and not in anger. That is ungodly.

Glad you'll still be around Red. I think you should give the new rules a chance, and Rob has said that if they don't work out, then they may change after Nats. I think that even if some of the rules don't pan out, that it is a good idea to try them out for a season. I've seen a lot of threads lately on why Redemption isn't fun, or what Redemption needs etc. Rob has read those, and given players a respite. I personally am grateful as a player, host, and elder.

I'm sure you'll be happy to still go to Nats since it will be so close....  ;D

I seem to remember a post from early this year saying you'd never quit Redemption.

FWIW, I understand what you mean when you say NE (basically just Skittens and Apathy, as they're the most outspoken) are arrogant (I wouldn't say jerks). I'm sure I come off this way at times too. Most of the time. It's all internet talk though. Once you get to know people like Skittens, you see their posts through an entirely different filter, and it's not arrogant at all, they just believe and post their opinions. So stick with the game and come to nationals. I always enjoy meeting new people and it really does change how you see them on the boards as well.

Hopefully I didn't offend anybody, and if I did, it wasn't my intention (I hope I spelled that out clearly), and I apologize if I've ever rubbed anybody in an arrogant manner. The main point here is to stick with the game. The fellowship is amazing.

I deleted/modified some posts to make this thread less personal and less inflamatory.  Please everyone keep future posts here constructive.  I'm actually having a difficult time envisioning a possible way for a thread with this name and purpose to end up anywhere but bad.  But I'll give it a little longer before locking it just to find out :)

Cactus is a company, not a person. Now if he had said Rob ruined the game that would be personal. But as it stands that is find. Though quite frankly, this cannot end well no matter what.

Personally, I would like to see the OP remove the word "hated" from the thread title.  How about "Cactus, you just lost a customer" instead? (even though it seems they haven't lost this customer).  The more I think about it, I no reason to call the good people at Cactus "hateful" for these rule changes.  It's accusatory in a way that I don't think benefits anyone, and I also see no evidence of "hatred" from Cactus.  Just because they changed some rules?

Frustrating maybe, but certainly not hateful.

I think there are two problems here, Red. The first is that (and you can correct me if I'm wrong, this is just what I've gleaned over the last six months or so) you are demanding respect from this community, and I don't believe that respect is something that can be demanded from anyone. Respect, especially in a community like this, must be earned, and you simply haven't acted in a manner that earns respect. To earn respect, one must act respectfully, and topics like this, among numerous other examples, do not convey respectfulness. Let me put it this way: if I had to take a guess, I'd say the top reason you don't respect me as a member is because I don't act respectfully towards you (or, if it's not the top reason, it's certainly up there). That has essentially launched us into a vicious cycle of disrespect that has not reflected well upon either of us. Thus, I want to sincerely apologize to you in front of God and everyone for being a disrespectful jerk to you, and I promise to do my absolute best to display more respect to you in the future, should you decide to remain a part of this community.

The second problem is that you take any and all criticisms of yourself and your post habits personally. I daresay that over the last six months I've taken as much flak as anyone for being a frankly unlikeable member, and that's something I deeply regret. I have, in recent weeks, attempted to improve both my attitude and my posting habits, and it's something I'm still working on, so if it hasn't been noticeable, I pray that it will become noticeable soon. Now admittedly 90% of the forum that you were primarily referring to me (among a handful of others) in the group of "NE Jerks," but Ring Wraith named me as a member that comes off as arrogant. I admit that that is a hard blow to take, especially since I'm insecure to begin with, but I simply don't see the point in getting angry over it. RW certainly didn't mean any harm of it, he was simply making a point, and I took something out of it for myself, which is simply extra motivation to become a member of this community and a better person in general.

Take this as you will. I mean this post as a peace offering, if you choose not to take it, I won't begrudge you for it. I've undergone a lot of criticism over the last two months, and the temptation to simply leave (especially since I don't own any cards anymore) has been rather overwhelming, especially as of late, but thus far, I've chosen to stick around and try to improve myself rather than take the easy way out. I hope you will choose to stick it out through the new rules and members who don't treat you respectfully and see if you can't improve yourself a little bit on the way as well.

Chronic, I accept your apology. I'll admit that I've been difficult lately and yes I have been disrespectful towards you and a few other members which I'm quite sorry for at this point having a night to sleep and mull over it.

Second, yes I don't handle criticisms well at all from people I've never met and it's something I've tried to work on and done a miserable job at it.

I myself need to work on my blow-ups which actually seem worse here than they really are.

This thread is now locked and will have a follow-up public apology.
