Title: Birthday
Post by: Xonathan on March 22, 2016, 10:25:23 AM
Being that it's my birthday and I have rare opportunity from the wife to be granted permission to buy cards, should I buy an early church or persecuted church box?

What type of style do you play and what brigade colors do you use the most? Your answer will determine which expansion you should buy. Also HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! :) :) :)  ;D ;D

well going after the one chase card is a stretch but getting the whole box of cards that you really want will have more longevity

True. I don't really have a lot of the new cards so if I don't get it, it wouldn't be the end of the world.

i think it comes down to.. which do you see yourself playing more to rescue souls? fruits of the spirit with the holy spirit, or armor of god? do you want to try to get a new holy grail? or possibly love and shipwreck?

i bought the whole set of persecuted church, and it is realllly good. personally, i would buy early church, just because those are the cards i find myself playing more often. however, persecuted church has very powerful cards, cards potentially more powerful than early church's. for example, Colossae is potentially more soul saving on it's own than any church in early church because it can get heroes from deck AND dc pile. it can protect souls, has CBI drawing, way heavier recursion, cbn enh, etc. i would go with the one that has more cards that will benefit the ones you already own, and the ones that accommodate more to your preferred play style.

this is what i really like about redemption though, there isn't one set that is a go to all end solution. you will find yourself building great decks with starter deck cards, cards that even came from the first set. falling away is from women's packs. i love that there are cards in redemption that hold their value from years and years ago. if you are going to drop the dime on a box, also consider how far the expense of one box could go toward building a specific deck you have in mind for nationals or other tournaments. what do those prices look like on tlg? could be equal to or less than the whole box of either.

Coming from an abomb player, EARLY CHURCH! it has a ton of awesome support for greeks! i also did romans for a bit and both of these packs really help that out. also, armor of god is pretty sick! Happy Birthday! ;D

If you don't have many of the cards from Faith of our Fathers or Rock of Ages sets, I would definitely go with Early Church. Persecuted Church is a smaller set, so on average you're more likely to get the stronger cards from the set but taking a shot at pulling a Shipwreck can be pretty exciting.  8)

Happy Birthday!

First of all.... Happy Birthday!  ;D

Second, the questions you should ask yourself are:

1. What if you buy the EC box but don't get Shipwreck?
      a. Will you be disappointed that you bought the EC box after all? If so, then go with PC.
      b. Will you end up with a bunch of cards that you don't need or want? If so, then go with PC.
      c. Will you have enjoyed the "chase" anyway just by opening the packs? If so, go with EC.

2. What if you buy the EC box and get Shipwreck?
      a. Will you sell it? If so, then you will end up getting all the rest of the cards for very little cost, in which case go with EC.
      b. Will you add it to your deck? If so, then there are cheaper ways to get a similar ability. Go with PC.
      c. Will you add it to your collection? If so, then this may be the only way you will get one without doling out a fortune. Go with EC.

Happy Birthday!
I know my family is the exception to the rule but two of my brothers have gotten three shipwrecks between them  :o.
Ill admit it has made me a little envious at times. Since my family has gotten so many it makes me wonder how rare it really is . .  . anyhow YMT gave good advice so Id listen to him.
