long car trip to nats - need entertainment ideas

we got a tiny car (kittens may have complained about it) with nothing but a tape player and radio. We can transmit an mp3 player to it but whatever.

Just give us some crazy ideas for games, audio, whatever.

My input:car games.
Ghost:
each player says a letter in order, starting with a, next word starts with b, etc. the goal is to continually spell a word, without ending it. If someone finishes a word, (more than 3 letters) they lose a life. if someone doubts that the last person's letter makes a real word, they make a challenge. If the last player can think up of a word that exists that could be made, the challenger loses a life. if they cant, they lose a life. Then the next round starts, with the next letter in the alphabet.

example. bob, jen and tod are playing. bob starts with A. jen says P. tod says P. bob says L. tod doesn't think there's a word that can be made out of this, so he challenges bob. Bob says "apple", what he was trying to spell. tod loses a life. If tod had said E, he also would have lost. poor tod. if tod said I, (applicant) he would have survived, even if jen had challenged him.

One thing I've found to be fun on car rides, and also hilarious, are Mad Libs. The driver (and other passengers) don't even have to be looking, they just tell the writer words that fit the categories. Then hilarity ensues when the story is read.

Train. One person says a word that starts with A. The next person says a word that starts with the last letter of the first person's word, and so on and so forth.

Ex. Bob says "Apple". Joe says "Enter". Mike says "Rest". Ted says "Tortilla". Bob says "Antique". And so on....

You can get out in two different ways.
1). Say a word that has already been said.
2). Say a word that starts with a different letter than the last word ended with.

When you get really good (or bored  ;D) you can start putting them in sentences and making the others pick out which word.
ANB is good. Change my mind.

I've played that game a lot on trips, and it's fun.  However, the best idea I heard of for a long trip to a Redemption tournament was a traveling tournament itself.  I think this was done once, and was actually an official local level tournament that happened in the van on the way to (or from) another tournament.

Of course you might not be able to have enough room for the cards in a small car, but that brings up another memory from WAYYYYYY back.  Imaginary Redemption.  Basically you have 2 people play with imaginary decks.  You just say what cards you are playing and keep track of it all in your head.  A neutral 3rd person writes notes on paper to make sure that everything is legal (ie.  you didn't claim to play SoG/NJ when you only had 1 card left in your "hand", or you didn't claim to draw the same hero twice in a game (unless there was a Chariot of Fire involved). etc.)  I've never tried this myself, but legend goes that there was someone who did this at Nats many years ago, and challenged any takers, but was never beaten.

Ghost is a great game. I play it all the time in the car.

I hosted the first ever official tournament in the van on the way to Nationals last year. We played T1 2p and T1 multi. Y'all should do that. We used box lids from the really big cardboard card boxes with 4 slots in them to hold our territories. Shoot Rob an email and see if he will approve it. Our tournament last year counted as the first tournament of the season following nationals. It worked out that I was the RNRS leader for 2011 before Nationals 2010 occurred.  8)

Friends don't let friends play T1 multi.

I vote imaginary redemption. This is a small car.

What about miniature redemption, for card trips? only one hero, evil, soul at a time, so there's only 3 cards out. either that or always play characters from hand. that way there's a minimum of cards out and still a little redemption gameplay, probably not even at all but maybe entertaining.

As well as that, might as well throw out some other dumb redemption game ideas i think of:

Uno? play a card with the same brigade, strength or toughness, son of God is draw four wild, etc.

war: flip cards from deck one at a time, numbers battle normally, special abilities happen, characters beat artifacts/fortresses, but they beat enhancements, dominants beat everything else.

I've played a game similar to that but with band names. It was on the way to Lifelight Music Festival. Y was extremely difficult after awhile...

Imaginary Redemption is tough.

Speed redemption. You get 15 seconds per turn.
Speed imaginary Redemption.

I'd draw Urim and Thummin and a HP in my opening draw every game of imaginary Redemption.

ROCKSTAR: one player thinks of a song with a word in it. They say the word. EVeryone else has to think up a song with that word in it. 1 point for first person to think up a song, 2 points if it was the song the first person was thinkiing of.

I've played a game similar to that where you have to sing a part of a song with the word in it. You had to know at least 5 or 7 words of the song around the part were it says the word. Keep going back and forth until nobody can think of another song containing the word.
