I was just wondering if anyone on the boards was a medical doctor. I've been getting more and more interested in medical type stuff lately it seems. Anyone a Doc, or going through school to be one?

I know a Doctor:

I've been interested in getting my EMT, but I need a car to do that.

I planned to become a doctor from the time I was in 6th grade until I graduated from college. I took 5 years of science in 4 years of HS, including 2 AP classes. I majored in pre-med. I took the MCAT (and did well on it). I even worked in a hospital as a surgical assistant my last couple years of college.
However, my Senior year of college I also did an extensive research project dealing with Alzheimer's disease and fell in love with research. Since I got married right after graduation and my new wife still had 1 year left of school, I got a job doing research, and discovered that it was actually a much better fit for me than medicine. I ended up working both in academic and industrial research for the next 7 years.
Then I was called into full time ministry as a science (and Bible) teacher at a small Christian boarding school in Eastern KY, and that's where I've been for the past 6 years. I wouldn't trade where I'm at now (or what I did before) for the career path of a doctor. I don't regret changing directions at all.

Did you go into psychiatric research?
Nope, the only psychological stuff I do is playing mind games with my opponents in games :)
P.S. and maybe a bit of lay-counseling to my students

My plan is to get my Masters in Cognitive Psychology and then remain jobless beings I hate researching, and that'd be pretty much all I could do.

And counseling for those whom you beat badly. I have laid on that couch too many times...

Every time I think a thread's going to be about Dr. Who, I end up disappointed :'(

You could always start a new thread.
On topic: What would motivate you to become a doctor/EMT/researcher? The idea of being a first responder has always appealed to me (giving to the community, not boring, of the three main responders (Police, Fire Department, Ambulance) this fits my skillset the best)

Not sure if that question was aimed at me SomeKittens, but for me my health has been pretty bad over the last few years or so, but lately has been the best it's been in a long while. My biggest hurdle is all the schooling. I believe I could do it, but the time it takes is the biggy for me. I thought about going into Health Care Administration, but I'd rather be on the "front lines" if I could, just not sure if all the extra years is feasible for me.

I had Lyme Disease that was undiagnosed for about 10 years. That seems to have been taken care of, but it's taking me a while to get back up to normal health.
What I would encourage everyone to do is: Eat Healthly, Exercise regularly, Drink lots of water, and take an One-a-Day type multi-vitamin.
p.s. What I left out and forgive me, it's the most important part! I would encourage everyone to Love God (the God of the Bible: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit) and be obedient to His Word. Life is so very short. We're here for just a few moments and what we do here has an eternal impact.
