Title: New special ability idea
Post by: Josh on February 17, 2017, 11:21:11 AM
"Boundless"
How to Play:
Boundless abilities can only target characters.
Boundless ability targets default to play and set-aside.  (In other words, by definition, Boundless abilities do not follow the normal "abilities default to play" rule.)
If a character is boundless, it can move between your territory and your set-aside area at any time.

*****

Cards to introduce this ability:

Stronghold in the Desert
Good fortress
Identifiers:  Plays to set-aside
"While all heroes you control are OT Warrior-Class, your heroes are boundless, and each upkeep you may draw 1 and discard the top card of a deck."
Same verse

Citadel of Ahasuerus
Evil fortress
"Persians you control are boundless and cannot be ignored.  Each upkeep, you may set aside the top 3 cards of deck (put LS in play), then underdeck a card in a set-aside area."
Esther 1:2-3

The Wilderness
Blue site
"Animals you control are boundless.  If your animal discards a human, you may discard this card to search deck and/or discard pile for up to 2 animals of 6/6 or less."
Job 39:5-6

Maybe if a hero is boundless, they can make a rescue attempt at any time.  :)

So if a Character was set aside by Seized by Rioters, but that character is boundless (via Stronghold), it could just come back at any time? How would this work with other set aside cards? If they return early, they just don't ever get the benefit? Or does it kick in again if you set it aside later?

I'm thinking this would have to be reworked (particularly the moving at any time part), but otherwise I like it. Especially the term "boundless". Just a cool word. 8)

They would just come back at any time.  Kind of like I Am Redemption and captured heroes, except you don't have to wait until your next artifact activation to get the benefit.

Heroes that are set aside by a special ability to gain a benefit (Pentecost, Provisions, etc) but then use "boundless" to come back early would void the gained ability, even if the boundless hero was back in the set-aside area when the set-aside GE expired.  This would mimic the current rules and characters returning early.
