Thought of this on my way home from work this morning. It was raining and I had to walk and I was miserable so I thought about stuff to keep my mind off the wetness and this just kinda popped into my head. I'd love thoughts/opinions on it, especially if there's anything I missed in setting the rules/definition for the ability.
New special ability keyword: Invert
Definition: To invert a card, swap its permanent strength and toughness, where "permanent" means the printed values on the card plus any non-temporary increases/decreases.
Example 1: if I have Crown of Thorns active and I invert my opponent's King of Tyrus he would become a 12/10 and then be decreased to 12/7 by CoT.
Example 2: if my Moses (8/8) was increased by an opponent's Gibeonite Trickery (to be 8/12) and is inverted he would become a 12/8.
You can only invert cards with a printed strength and toughness (characters and enhancements). For dual-alignment/type cards, the printed str/tough used are the ones associated with the alignment/type the card is when targeted for the invert ability. When targeting a character, invert does not include enhancements with that character (weapons in territory or enhancements played in battle) unless the invert ability specifies they are included. The change is permanent unless a duration is specified with the invert ability. Invert is not considered a decrease or increase (it "sets" the strength and toughness to each other), therefore abilities that protect from decrease do not inherently protect from invert.
Example 3: if my Michael (12/8) holding Angel's Sword (3/2) is inverted he becomes 8/12 and Angel's Sword is still worth 3/2.
If a card's printed strength and toughness are dynamically the same (Silly Women) the end result is the same as if you inverted a character with equal strength and toughness (i.e.: nothing changes). If only the strength OR toughness is dynamic (Susanna, Passover Hymn) the dynamic stat's current value is used to swap for the other stat, and the dynamic stat remains dynamic.
Example 4: if Susanna (1/x) and 3 other N.T females are in play and she is inverted she would become 4/x because X = 4 at the time the invert ability took effect.
Sample uses of Invert:
First and Last
-0/0 Territory-Class Clay Good Enhancement | X = # of good Dominants in your discard pile-
"Invert up to X evil humans. If played in battle, withdraw those evil humans. Cannot be prevented."
~Matthew 20:16
Day of Calamity
-3/3 Gold/Green Good Enhancement | X = # of Evil Characters in battle-
"Invert X Evil Characters, then decrease them by 0/X. Cannot be interrupted."
~Deuteronomy 32:35
The Gerasene Demoniac
-3/12 Crimson/Orange Evil Character-
"Each time an Enhancement is played, invert it. Cannot be negated."
~Mark 5:1-2

Alright, so lets say i have The Gerasene Demoniac blocking against my job with peace. How would tossing work in this situation?

The Gerasene Demoniac this is amazing
Very cool idea

Tossing uses the printed numbers on an enhancement so invert would not affect it.

Thanks! I'm glad you like it. :)

ah bummer it would be sweet if it worked with toss xD

I'd love for it to, but I don't think it's possible without being clunky.

I feel like changing Example 2 to "if Gibeonite Trickery increases Moses (8/8) 0/4 so he is 8/12, then inverting Moses would make him 12/8." That's a little more clear since the increase on Gates has equal strength and toughness. Just a thought.
I like the idea though. It's pretty simple and doesn't seem to have any game-breaking potential but can have an interesting effect, especially against evil End the Battle cards.

Good point. I'll update the example.
Thanks! Yeah I didn't want it to be anything game-breaking, but also not useless. There is definitely combo potential which I consider a good thing. I'm glad you like it. :)

I think it has huge potential for tossing cards... The tithe...
-
I'd love for this to work with Toss for more combos, but in its current form I don't think it would and I'm not sure how to word the definition so that it does.

This needs to become a thing it may be the closest we ever get to tossing characters

Invert and toss Jethro's wisdom = awesome.

If Toss were changed to be a state like how it should be anyway, this would be much easier to accomplish.

That's a fair point. What do you think of the idea as a whole?
-
I like it, especially the interaction between a static and dynamic stat.

Yeah that was the last addition to the definition but I think it's also the coolest. I'm glad you like it! :D

Cool idea, Scott! Maybe we'll use something like this some day. ::)

Thanks Gabe! I'm excited that so many people like it. :D
