Title: New Plagues
Post by: Minister Polarius on May 18, 2016, 02:25:21 AM
With the new viability of Moses' Rod decks, it's time to take another crack at the Plagues of Egypt. This time, my bent is to focus on how each of the plagues corresponded to a god of Egypt and have the abilities reflect a destruction of that god's domain. I decided to make them all Green/Gold as those are the traditional colors and the plagues represented both prophecy and judgment. These are only the same unique cards as their predecessors if they have the same name. The first few plagues are also Gold/Pale Green EEs because Pharaoh's Magicians were able to mimic the miracles, but they are always strongest on Heroes.

Nile to Blood (Judged Hapi, god of the Nile)
1/1 Green/Gold GE, TC / 0/0 Gold/Pale Green EE
-Plague-
"Remove all Lost Souls from opponent's Sites. If opponent has drawn during battle this turn, Discard opponent's O.T. Sites and withdraw all Demons."
~Same as Plague of Blood

Army of Frogs (Judged Heqet, goddess of Fertility)
2/2 Green/Gold GE, TC / 0/0 Gold/Pale Green EE
-Plague, X=Number of cards your opponent has drawn with his cards since his last upkeep phase-
"Place in your opponent's territory for X turns or until your opponent is successfully blocked twice (whichever comes first): restrict all players from drawing. If played during battle, shuffle an Evil Character."
~Same as Plague of Frogs

Lice from Dust (Judged Heb, God of the Earth)
3/3 Green/Gold GE
-Plague-
"Reveal the top card of opponent's deck. Discard all opponent's cards with the same type."
~Same as Plague of Lice

Plague of Flies (Judged Khepri, god of rebirth)
4/4 Green/Gold GE
-Plague-
"Decrease all Evil Humans and Animals by 0/8."
~Same

Death of Livestock (Judged Hathor, godess of love and safety)
5/5 Green/Gold GE, TC
-Plague-
"You may place on an Animal: If your Rescue Attempt or Battle Challenge failed last turn, you may Discard this character to Negate and Discard the last Evil Character that blocked this turn."
~Same

Ashes to Sores (Judged Isis, goddess of medicine)
6/6 Green/Gold GE
-Plague-
"When played, you may reduce this cards attack or defense by 3 up to four times to disease an Evil Human or Animal: decrease 0/1 per turn until */1."
~Same as...Plague of Boils I think?

Firestorm (Judged Nut, goddess of the sky) -This card will have the coolest art of any card ever-
7/7 Green/Gold GE
-Plague-
"Negate all special abilities. Opponent may Discard his Fortress instead."
~Same as Plague of Hail

Swarms of Locusts (Judged Set, god of chaos)
8/8 Green/Gold GE, TC
-Plague-
"Place this card in your opponent's territory. When your Exodus Hero or O.T. Good Prophet enters battle and you have the least rescued souls, you may convert this card to a Crimson Evil Character and choose it to block."
~Same as Plague of Locusts

Nightfall (Judged Ra, god of the sun)
9/9 Green/Gold GE
-Plague-
"Set all cards in battle aside for three turns. Upon return, opponent is restricted from blocking with an Evil Character who was not set aside by Nightfall until they have blocked with all their Evil Characters who were set aside by Nightfall."
~Same as Plague of Darkness

Death of Firstborn (Judged Pharaoh, god of Egypt)
10/10 Green/Gold/Silver GE
-Plague-
"Convert this card to a Hero named "Angel of Death" and cause it to fight a blocking Evil Character. Negate the next Enhancement opponent plays this game. Cannot be Interrupted."
~Same

Love these cards! I think it would be awesome to have some plague cards! Only thing that I don't like about these it how high the numbers are on some of the last ones. 7/7 is, imo, the highest you should go. 10/10 in a toss battle... Too op.

Brilliant concepts and thematic tie-ins. Well done as usual, Pol.

A few months ago I also had the idea to come up with new plagues. I like the way you themed yours. Mine are mainly  just based on what the plagues did.

Cool ideas. Outside of the numbers potentially being a bit high the only issues I have currently would be the frogs one stops the draw phase and then the license one could create a soul drought for yourself if it reveals a LS.

Both are intentional.

I really like some of these quite a bit, and I think with some reworking you could turn this into an alt-win condition deck type, to make it truly unique.

I like the cards in general, you have a history of making useful yet balanced cards. I think that you would have to do some testing with Army of Frogs, because there a lot of situations that you could put your opponent in where this card could win you the game. With all of the board wipes and hand control I think there is room for a lot of NPE. Thematically too it doesn't quite fit, it would be nice to see something multiplying instead of being restricted. Maybe an animal recursion card or token creation ability if that will ever be a thing in Redemption.

Made a change to Army of Frogs: added "or until your opponent is successfully blocked twice." You could still pull off a lockout with this, but you'd have to wipe out all but one hero in play and hand plus all enhancement discard options in order to do it. Usually if you wipe their heroes, they were going to lose anyway.

Now this is a cool idea for the plagues. I love them!
