Just out of curiosity,  do the card ideas that player submit on the forum can be used to make a published card or is it just for fun?

I can say that the basis for new set card ideas, even if just a general concept (new crazy ability types or interactions, things we haven't seen before) can definitely come from the boards here.  Most people do it just for fun, but if you look at some historical threads, there are some where pieces are taken or even whole cards.

For example, a card like this was tweaked and turned into the hero The Foretelling Angel, when we were looking to add some more OT Territory Class characters to the game..

That's just one example I know off the top of my head, but I know that a lot of New Card ideas have been incorporated into cards over the years.

There are cards we're testing right now to print this summer that were inspired by player created suggestions on this forum. We typically don't print an exact copy, but there are some really good ideas that pop up on here. It would be a shame not to use them sometimes.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the whole "territory class character" thing originate on the boards? I remember seeing concepts to that effect before TEC came out.

I agree that the concept was on the boards prior to the release of EC. TC characters was an ideas we talked about for at least a couple years prior to EC though. I don't remember exactly where it originated. The play testers have concepts on hold, saving them for the right set, sometimes for years. Once TC enhancements were introduced, it wasn't much of a stretch to come up with TC characters.

That brings up a very interesting point. People who are well versed in the game and the scriptures often come up with strikingly similar ideas to cards we have in reserve to print later. I find it fun to see people independently come up with almost identical ideas. That's just confirmation to me that it must be a good one.

The elders recently spent some time talking through set ideas for the next 5+ years as well as fun new abilities and mechanics that will be a good fit for each of those sets. Those are all rough ideas and subject to change, but we have a plan.

A long time ago, back before I was a playtester or had even attended Nationals (somewhere around 2002 or 2003), Cactus used to hold monthly card idea contests. I recall winning one of these with a card idea that was essentially a territory class-type card, but I called it a "brigade-dominant." Basically it was a dominant that could be played like a regular dominant except that you needed to have a Hero in play that matched the brigade of the dominant.

NAME: Plumb Line
TYPE: Brigade-Dominant
BRIGADE: Green
ABILITY: "Discard all Evil Characters in play with an unequal strength and toughness."

Obviously the ability would be a bit over-powered in today's game, but back then there were many difficult to defeat Evil Characters like King of Tyrus, Prince of this World and Red Dragon that ruled the game.

I recall getting a phone call from Doug Gray saying that I had won and that I could pick a pack of my choice as the prize. Of course I got a Warriors pack.  8)

While I can't say that this particular card was the actual inspiration for territory-class, it definitely shows that card ideas can begin with players and eventually wind up as a card or mechanic in the game.

Have you checked the REG?
Have you looked it up in ORCID?

I'm pretty sure you would have gotten several Warrior's packs. I know that I got at least ten for my idea of Patmos (not sure if it was a different contest, or a different placing in the same contest). But yeah, that was a long time ago...
