Title: Necromancer
Post by: Bobbert on June 26, 2013, 10:02:59 AM
I know ideas for this card have been thrown around from time to time, but this still seemed like a good cost-benefit balance.

Necromancer
4/5 Pale Green EC
Magician, X=total combined toughness on discarded cards
You may discard any number of evil cards from hand to search discard pile for an evil character of the same brigade as any of the discarded cards with toughness less than or equal to X. You may discard a dominant to search your discard pile for any evil character.

The X= may need to be cleaned up a bit, but this gives a decent way to recur evil characters (the point of any necromancer card) without being super OP or terribly splashable.

maybe make X=toughness of discarded card.  a little op saying its real easy to recur of uzzah, but at least its fully negateable

and make the character be the same brigade as the discarded card.

Good points on both. Fixed.

Yay for Necromancer + SoG + Angel at Tomb for infinite recurring of any EC from your discard pile. Combo deck anyone? :P

I feel like based on the fact that it's not referencing a specific Necromancer (unless the verse does which isn't listed here) it should be Generic, but I also think that would make it kind of OP (recursion of each other and whatnot).

SoG doesn't have brigade or toughness, care to explain how you are recurring ECs here?

I seem to have missed that, my bad.

Maybe make it "Discard an evil dominant" to avoid this.  Or else make it "Remove a dominant from the game to..."  This would allow any dominant to be used and avoid the combo recursion.

Or kill Necromancer? I'd save my AotL for him every time.

Browarod makes a valid point. I will think about this, but my initial feeling is that, especially with the new "remove discard pile" TC enhancements, this would be an incredibly risky idea. As long as they have characters, there will always be a chance for at least one opponent to remove your discard - along with SoG in it.

Cleaned up the wording and simplified the SA a bit.

Am I the only one who wouldn't be worried to see a never used card come back for a combo that risks your SOG every time you do it?

I like the image (especially your effect of the hand reaching over the icon box), but there was a method to my madness with the SA. The way you have it now, the first sentence could be simplified further to "Discard an evil card to search discard pile for an evil character of the same brigade." As awesome an ability as it would be, I think that's a little strong to be able to discard an enhancement that I'm past the point of using to search an awesome guy out. For instance, since he's PG, let's say that after my opponent decks, I block with this guy and discard Confusion to search my discard for ASA.
Browarod also made a valid point on Generic.

And thanks for finding the reference for me!

Upon further review, he should be Generic based on the rules for unique characters, and I don't think it would be too OP to have multiples of them. I mean, you still have to discard SOMETHING to get any of the ECs back. :P

Unless, you know, you're playing type II.
